This project took many months to complete - approx. 8 months in total from start to finish. I was given a window of 8-12 weeks on the contract as the typical time frame for the project to be completed. I was told there was turnover in personnel @ Champion & this is why it took so long. The door was installed in a timely fashion but the rest of the project was what dragged out so long. I was disappointed in the lack of communication from the company- no returned phone calls -misleading statements on when the project would be completed. The finished product is very good but took much too long to complete.

Basically, it was just too expensive so we went with dry wall for a savings of over $6000.

Overall work was mediocre to fair. Work is done so quickly that concrete for footers was put in same day joists were attached, concrete wasn't even allowed to cure. Tie-in to house walls was not done properly and had to be redone. Deck not installed properly and had to be redone. Large window leaked and gutters/downspouts all leaked and had to be fixed a few times. Time will tell if they are adequate now. Locks on doors didn't work properly and had to be fixed. This involved numerous phone calls to the company to get someone out to fix problems. A lot of additional costs with installation: padding for under carpet, lights, fan, heating and cooling costs all were our responsibility.

DAVID KERSTEIN, OUR SALES PERSON, PRESENTED THE WINDOWS, WORKED WITH US TO PROVIDE A FAIR PRICE AS WELL AS HELP US ARRANGE FINANCING. HE FOLLOWED UP WITH US TO MAKE SURE WE KNEW WHEN THE WINDOWS WOULD BE INSTALLED. INSTALLERS WERE EFFICIENT, PERSONABLE AND FRIENDLY. THEY CLEANED UP EVERYTHING AND DEMONSTRATED HOW THE WINDOWS WORKED. WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH THE INSTALLATION.

WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND CHAMPION TO ANYONE. DON'T DO WHAT THEY TELL YOU THEY WILL. DON'T COME WHEN THEY SAY THEY WILL. HAVE TO BE TOLD TO CLEAN UP THEIR MESS, MORE THEN ONCE. WE WENT WITH CHAMPION BE CAUSE WE TRUSTED THEM, NOT ANY MORE. WE JUST WANT THEM TO FINISH WHAT THEY STARTED, AND REPLACE THE THINGS THEY MESSED UP AND BROKE. WE NEED CLOSURE WITH THIS COMPANY. YOU WOULD THINK THAT A COMPANY AS BIG AS THIS WOULD DO WHAT'S RIGHT. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY WOULD USE, A PAPER THE GUY BROUGHT WITH HIM SO HE WOULD GET PAID, AGAINST US. THEY KNEW THEY WEREN'T FINISHED. SO WE ARE GETTING CHARGED AND THEY AREN'T DONE YET! THE LAST TIME WE HEARD FROM THEM WAS 7-29-05.

THE COMPLETE TIME WAS ABOUT 2 WEEKS BUT WAS PROMISED A DATE THAT WAS NOT MET, HAD ISSUES RE: ELECTRIC AND OTHER COSTS THAT WAS THE INITIAL PLANNERS FAULT FOR MISSING, WE FOUGHT THEM ON PLACEMENT OF ELECTRIC, DOORS, ORDERED WRONG TILE COLOR, EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE A HASSLE HANGING HEAVY PICTURES SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT, THE DRYWALL WORK IN BATH IS NOT GOOD, WAS TOLD THE PANELS WOULD NOT STAIN, THAT'S A JOKE, BLUE POOL CHALK STAINED IT, CAT URINE STAINS!!! WOULD HAVE NEVER HAD DONE IF KNEW ABOUT THE STAINS, HAVE CALLED MANY TIMES TO HAVE THEM REPLACE THEM (10 YR WARRANTY) BUT WAS TOLD 6 PANELS WAS TOO MANY AND WOULD CALL BACK LATER..NEVER HEARD FROM THEM.....GOOD INFO, IT IS WARM THOUGH.

THE SERVICE WAS WONDERFUL. THE PURCHASE SIDE WAS VERY INFORMATIVE, SHOWED US WHERE AND HOW THE DOORS WERE BEING MADE. THE ONLY DOWNFALL WAS THE LENGTH OF TIME FOR THE DOORS TO BE DELIVERED WAS LONGER THAN WHAT WE WOULD HAVE LIKED.

THE ESTIMATE TOOK APPROXIMATELY A MONTH TO GET (JAN 20, 2005) WITH THE AFTER-STORM ACTIVITY, AND THEN WORK WASN'T STARTED UNTIL MID-MAY. HOWEVER, THE WORKMANSHIP ON THE INSTALLATION WAS EXCELLENT, AND THE CREW WORKED VERY QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY, AND CLEANED UP WELL AFTER THEMSELVES. THE REPLACEMENT IS ANCHORED MUCH MORE SOLIDLY THAN THE ORIGINAL, FOR WHICH WE HAVE NO IDEA OF THE BRAND OR INSTALLATION DATE.

WHEN WE CALLED FOR REPAIR, CHAMPION WAS OUT WITHIN 2 WEEKS AND REPLACED THE DAMAGED SECTIONS. HOWEVER, THE MATERIALS THEY USED FOR THE REPAIR DID NOT MATCH THE ORIGINAL VINYL. WE HAD TO MAKE 3 CALLS OVER ABOUT 2 WEEKS TO GET SOMEONE TO COME OUT AND LOOK AT IT. AFTER SOME DISCUSSION, THE SERVICE REP AGREED IT DIDN'T MATCH, BUT TOLD US THE COMPANY NO LONGER CARRIED THE ORIGINAL VINYL. THEY FINALLY REPLACED ALL THE TRIM VINYL ON THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE SO IT LOOKED UNIFORM, BUT IT DOESN'T MATCH THE SIDES OR THE BACK OF THE HOUSE. WHEN THEY MADE THE REPAIR, THEY LEFT PIECES OF VINYL BEHIND AND TRAMPLED SOME SHRUBBERY.

THE INSTALLERS WERE VERY PROMPT, COURTEOUS, HONEST ABOUT ISSUES BUT WERE ABLE TO ADDRESS THEM IN A VERY SATISFACTORY MANNER. BRETT, THE FOREMAN, ADDED SOME NICE CUSTOM TOUCHES, ANSWERED OUR QUESTIONS OR REFERRED US TO HIS BOSS, CHARLIE, WHO WAS QUICK TO ANSWER OUR CALL AND VERY RESPONSIVE TO OUR PERSONAL SITUATION. THEY WENT WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND TO GUARANTEE WE WERE HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS OF THEIR WORK. IT IS SO WONDERFUL TO FIND A COMPANY THAT IS SO CONCERNED WITH CUSTOMER SATISFACTION TO THE END DEGREE. IT SEEMED LIKE A BIG EXPENSE AT FIRST, BUT IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY TO SEE WHAT WE NOW HAVE IN OUR HOME AND HOW COMFORTABLE THIS SPACE WILL BE FOR YEARS TO COME. WE REALLY GOT OUR MONEY'S WORTH FOR OUR TODDLER AND OUR TEENAGERS TO ENJOY! ALL HOMES SHOULD HAVE THIS FROM THE START. THEY ARE A GREAT COMPANY TO WORK WITH AND I WISH THERE WERE MORE COMPANIES AS HONEST AND HARDWORKING AS CHAMPION.

HAVE THE STATEMENT 'ACT OF GOD' REMOVED FROM YOUR CONTRACT. I WAS TOLD ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT THEIR REASON FOR BEING LATE OR NOT RETURNING CALLS WAS AN 'ACT OF GOD'. MAKE SURE, IN WRITTING, THAT IF THE JOB IS NOT COMPLETED AS PROMISED IN THE CONTRACT, WHETHER ITS THE NUMBER OF DAYS IT TAKES OR THE PREPARATION AND CLEANUP, THAT YOU CAN BE COMPENSATED MONETARILY. PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT THIS COMPANY CAN PUT A LIEN ON YOUR PROPERTY IF THEY ARE NOT PAID IN FULL. I CONTACTED THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE ABOUT THIS. IN ADDITION, BOTH CHAMPION AND I CONTACTED THE BBB ABOUT THIS, BUT I DIDN'T DECIDE TO PURSUE THE BINDING ARBITRATION BECAUSE I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS IN ADVANCE. TO ME, THAT DOESN'T SEEM NEUTRAL.

WE DID FRONT WINDOWS AND TRIM ONE SEASON, THEN BACK OF HOUSE THE NEXT. WHEN THEY DID THE BACK, THEY DID THE TRIM DIFFERENTLY (CUT THE ENDS AT 45 DEGREE ANGLES) THAN THE FRONT OF HOUSE (CUT AT 90 DEGREE ANGLES). WHEN WE CALLED THEM, THEY WERE EXTREMELY COURTEOUS AND SENT SOMEONE OUT TO RE-DO ALL THE TRIM ON THE BACK SO IT MATCHED. VERY HAPPY WITH PRODUCT AND SERVICE.
