After removal of the deck boards the substructure of the lower deck was found to be deteriorated and needed to be replaced. The quote was fair and proceeded well. The new deck is much more solid than the old one. Joe even added some stiffening to the remaining upper deck structure. Where one set of steps had three stringers on the old construction Joe replaced them with six stringers. Joe is a one man operation and therefore works alone except for a helper during removal of the old deck boards and railings. He was here every day and even worked through a couple very wet cold days. My initial impression that he was reliable and took pride in a job well done was justified.

Joe was very punctual and professional. While composite decking is pretty costly, his bid was very competitive. He was at our house every day at 8am. The job took just 5 days which is pretty good considering he does all work himself. He answered all of our questions all along the process from the first meeting through job completion.

Joe Pokorny is the owner and constructed our deck himself. I can't say enough good things about him. From the plans to the permit process, everything was outstanding. He is a professional and his work shows his attention to detail (he also taught deck-building). We opted for treated lumber instead of composite for cost reasons, and I was concerned about the method of attaching the boards to the joists. I wasted a lot of time worrying for nothing. He uses screws and counter sinks them, and you can't even see them!! It's amazing! In addition, he framed in the balusters so no cut ends can be seen. What a nice touch that is. It really makes everything look neat with all those clean lines. We are so happy with it!!!
