HORRIBLE. In August 2020 I hired Bartlett Tree Experts to remove some honeysuckle along a property line for an agreed amount of $2,898 plus tax. Once the work was done, I was triple billed. When I complained about this being erroneous, Guy Fortner said that the quote was a time and materials quote (which we had discussed prior) and that $2898 was a per diem rate. However, no where is an actual rate listed, either in our prior discussions, or in our contract. All units listed are purely in USD, and NOT in USD/hour or USD/day as they should be if Guy was expecting to bill based on time and materiels. Under the “Tree and Shrub Work” section in the contract, costs should have been labeled as $USD/day, alongside an estimate of the number of days, if you were to expect us to pay that portion per day. As it reads, the cost that was approved to complete the scope of work totals to $2,898 + tax. This is what I was agreeing to and feel notably misled. Plus with the quality of this crew, you definitely do not want to be paying them by the hour. This company has turned into such a scam.

It takes them probably a half hour. The workers are always nice and genuine. They left the area clean.

I find them sometimes hard to get responses from. Their prices are fair. What they are doing seems to be helping the trees. I just never know when they are coming out to do the treatments. I expect one and then, it is usually a month later than I expected. It is not something urgent. It does not bother me. I would think they would be out as the trees are blooming when the leaves are coming on the trees. In my quote, it will say they would be out in April, but then, they would be out like at the very end of April or early part of May. Some of that may have to deal with weather and other things so it is not a huge issue. Their professionalism is fine. We will continue to stay on the plan we are on so we are using them next year.
Response from Bartlett Tree Experts - 91211
"Thank for taking the time to provide your feedback of our services. The timing of the treatments are based upon weather and tree biology. The actual date of a treatment can vary greatly from year to year, depending on weather patterns. For example, a late spring or an early spring can alter the treatment date by many weeks. An estimated completion date is provided to each client so as to give them a general idea of when the treatment will occur. Thank you, again, for your input, and for providing us the opportunity to be of service."

They arborist who did the estimate was very easy to work with and the team that did the work was extremely professional. I was overall very pleased with their work and would definitely recommend them to others and use them again myself.

They did a great job once they got there.  I had a hard time getting them to commit to a day and time.  It kept changing or forgotten.  I had to call several times and it took a while for them to get back to me.   But my trees are thriving and look good so they do a great work.

Bartlett changed the arborist this year - I had worked with the previous one for a few years and was very satisfied with him, his suggestions and over all outcomes and utilized Bartlett annually.  He visited the property at least twice a year and communicated, either in person or in writing his observations/suggestions.  This year, I did not see nor hear from anyone other than a written proposal for treatments on several trees.  I approved some and rejected others.--  One of the suggestions was to cable a maple tree - this had been done 4 or 5 years ago; but, I thought they might need to reinforce it  - I approved this - a few weeks later Barrlett trucks appeared - the men got out; looked at the tree and left (did not come to the house).  I then wondered if someone just looked at previous work done and re wrote the proposal. During the next months, I was billed for treatments (two separate occasions); but, really am not sure they were performed.  There was no door tag left either time (as had been done last year).  I called when I received the first bill and was told that leaving the door tag was an oversight and it would be addressed.  A few weeks later the same thing happened.  I am now reluctant to utilize their services again due to my experiences this year.

The trees were in need of a feeding and we definately could see the difference in the trees.  They are always willing to come out and check out the trees for free and give us a quote if anything needs to be taken care of.  They send a newsletter now and then with information about caring for your trees that I really appreciate.

This company is not just a tree removal service provider. They want to make your trees healthy and happy. I really want to keep my trees, so we will be systemically treating them, along with fertilizing them later in the fall.

"It was a pleasure taking care of your property. You have a beautiful landscape and our goal is to keep it that way. We look forward to taking care of your Ash, Spruce, Pear, Maple and other plants. Next year we can focus on keeping the Emerald Ash Borer at bay, as well as stopping the fireblight we found."

Had a consultation and walk around in july 2012.  Agreed to ash bore treatment (root infusion) on a tree.  After 2 months of no response a call (voice mail) was made to provider asking status.  No personal response, but just showed up at end of August and treated the tree.  [ Note: August treatment is past optimal timing for recommended  by Ohio State/Purdue group addressing emerald ash bore.]  Turns out arborist retired an new one servicing our area.  Several emails requested a new walk around after first of year 2013.  After several voice mail tags a voice was reached and a time was scheduled, but the arborist thought I was going to call and confirm, so he did not show.  (Poor professional performance/communication within the organization)

John and Rick showed up promptly at 8AM, had both trees down, cut up and stacked, stumps ground and were done in about 4 hours.   The work was done efficiently and neatly.  It was also raining pretty good and I was sure they would have to re-schedule, but the guys worked through it and did a very good job.  I was very pleased with the service.  Both guys were very friendly.
While I hope to not have to use them to take down any more of our trees, I would definitely use them again.

Overall, I was pleased with the service.  Their staff was extremely knowledgeable and I felt like they did the work with excellence.  However, it was difficult to get in touch with their staff to schedule the service and when I did, the work didnt actually get done for another 2-3 weeks after that.  Not a great customer service experience up until the work got done (which was executed very well and professionally).

Mr. Lake is experienced, knowledgeable and clearly quite passionate about trees. He is available for consult by e-mail if I have any questions (though sometimes it takes a few days). I don't have to be there when they do the treatments and he checks up on my trees himself when he is in the area.
Highly recommend this company

While the serviceman was examining the work to be done for the estimate, I was able to talk over alternatives with him and came up with a plan that best served my needs.  Rather than just give me an estimated cost at that time, the estimator took notes, and, later that day, sent me an email containing a full description of the work to be done and the cost of that work.  On the day of the service, the workmen showed up promptly at 8:30 AM.  By the end of the day, the trees and branches were gone, the two stumps ground down, and all debris all cleaned up.  The yard looked great.  The workmen were clearly  professonals in the quality and efficiency in which they worked.  They were careful to bring the trees and branches down so that there was no damage to my property or my neighbor's property.  They put orange cones around the work area for safety.  All of my communications with the company whether it be with the estimator, the office, or the workmen was very pleasant and courteous.

Called the company on a Tuesday morning and Steve Lake came to the house that same afternoon. After evaluating the health (or lack of) of my Pin Oak tree we looked at other trees on the property. He seemed as concerned as I was about the shape and proximity to the house of a Mulberry tree and of a "weedy" overgrown Japanese Maple tree. He was very clear and explicit in showing me signs of bad health and condition of the Pin Oak. Steve gave me a choice between spending several hundred dollars (or more) on having a soil analysis done follwed by some special feeding and root work or removing the tree. He recommended removal of the Pin Oak and Mulberry and I agreed. After asking me what I wanted to do with my Japanese Maple he recommended it be thinned and shaped. Ten minutes later he gave me an estimate and I agreed to have the work performed. Three days later two men and their truck arrived early and worked a half day until they were finished pruning, cutting and cleaning. They did an excellent job with shaping and pruning the Japanese Maple. The overall cost - I felt - was on the high side, but I trusted this company to do a good job pruning that Japanese Maple. I could have hired some local tree removal company to take away the Pin Oak and Mulberry for much less (for about $400) but would not feel comfortable about having them work on the Japanese Maple. I'm very satisfied.
