Customer service was consistently disappointing. The latest example involved fall fertilization of three trees. I had agreed to a contract that specified a fall fertilization and winter topical treatment of a hickory tree. The contract also included treating 2 ash trees to prevent ash borer infestation every 3 years. A year ago I paid for the fall fertilization and last winter the hickory treatment. Yesterday (10/10/2024), a man arrived and did another fall fertilization. I had not been notified this work was going to be done or I would have cancelled it due to my decision to terminate services with the Arbor Doctor. When I confronted the man performing the service yesterday, he called his office and told me I would be contacted by someone to explain why he was there. A woman called me and said the contract was for once a year treatment of fall fertilization and winter treatment of the hickory. I said that was not at all clear to me, but I hadn't yet examined the contract. I said I did not want any more services provided by the Arbor Doctor. She said I was responsible for that day's fertilization. After the call, I examined the contract I'd approved and nowhere did it say the treatments would be every year unless I cancelled them in advance. The contract did state the ash borer treatment would be every 3 years. (Another reason I decided to "fire" the Arbor Doctor was the exorbitant fee for the ash treatments: $1275 (which I paid) vs. $725 from a recent bid by Madison Tree Care).

Ron came out to tour the property around October just to talk through problem areas with the trees and remedy options.  He seems very knowledgeable and it was great to talk to him about tree care and also general landscape challenges.  He told me how the excavation that had occurred during construction of the house (7 years ago) had damaged roots of some large trees near the house - this is why they were showing wounds.  In addition to the growth inhibitor for the damaged large trees, he helped me decide to cut down some box elder trees and offered some advice on how best to remove honeysuckle and his thoughts on the best replacement trees/shrubs.  Our Austrian Pines were suffering from some sapsucker and bug attacks so we signed up for seasonal care to help combat the effects.  I guess the downside is that I'm not really sure if any of this will work until a year or two down the road?

Fine. Treatment is a routine treatment as part of yearly service for all trees & shrubs.

I am very pleased with this company. Ron is extremely passionate about his business. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. He gave me suggestions of what trees would be good fits for my yard. He did everything he said he would do when he said he would do it. When I emailed him about a concern I had with one of the trees, he was at my door within 24 hours to check on it and assure me that it was doing fine. I would definitely use this company again if needed and recommend to others.

Ron was wonderful providing lots of information.  He said the pine tree was too far gone to save and he was right.  Within 2 weeks the entire tree was totally bronze.  He removed the tree and arranged to have the stump removed.  The second tree was a Japanese maple that was "burning-out."  Ron confirmed that the site got too much sun (about 14 hours in the summer) for the Japanese Maple.  He suggested it be transplanted to a different (less sunny) site in the yard and the tree is now thriving in its new location.  A third question came up which was what to put in that ultra-sunny, hot location.  Ron did some research and got back to me with several suggestions.  The suggestions were very good, but not exactly what I wanted.  I posed 2 suggestions of trees that I favored and he provided information about them that enabled me to make a good decision.  He then purchased and planted a weeping cherry for me.
The whole process, analysis, removal, transplanting, plus new tree selection and planting took about a month.

Once the date was settled upon to complete the work Mike arrived when he was supposed to and addressed the issue of the supporting the trees and will eventually treat them for bag worms.

We received an estimate of $800 for treatment of the trees and $150 for fertilization (which has not been done yet). We told him at the time that we had an Angie's list coupon, but when the bill came we did not get the discount. We expected to get $80 off the Emerald Ash treatment and $15 off the fertilization. I called the office about the bill and was told they do not honor the coupons.  A letter of complaint has been sent and payment is being withheld until this matter is settled.
Response from Arbor Doctor
"It is false that the treatment was done by a sub-contractor. Our treatments are done by an experienced representative of Arbor Doctor LLC. There was a legitimate error on our part regarding the discount. This coupon was new to us and there was initial confusion. We did our best to make this right and we did honor the coupon. . Unfortunately, the client extended no grace and immediately jumped to the conclusion we were not honest. This too is false. We do our best. I guarantee we are human and we are fallible, but I also guarantee we will make any errors right if given the chance. -Ron Rothhaas"

In September 2011, I called Arbor Doctor because our blue spruce was weeping sap and some branches were loosing needles. A company representative came to make an inspection and recommend a treatment..A price was agreed to.  We were not at home when the application was performed on Oct. 13. This spring the tree appears to have improved greatly, with much new grow. I am pleased with the progress.

Arbor Doctor is doing a great job with the tree service around our house. They are treating an ash tree that is over 20 years old that needs some help, a maple tree, and a birch tree. Very knowledgeable and prompt with the work. They are very accessible by being able to pay online. So far the work they have done I have no problems with. Arbor Doctor is very honest, they came out to fertalize a tree and noticed my shrubs needed it as well. The service man did it for no charge. We are patiently awaiting the results as the process takes a couple of years. So far so good.

They did a fantstic job.  They were very professional, and clearly concerned about the customers wants and needs.  They spent about 5 hours working on the trees, and afterwards did an outstanding job cleaning up.   My wife came home after the crew left, and asked my when they were coming, because she saw no evidence that they had been there.

I would hire them again, and recommend them to my neighbors........actually have ALREADY recommended them to my neighbor.

Overall, it went fine.  This is the first time we used them, so right now everything looks satisfactory.  They did what they said they would do.  We would wait for the spring to see if everything turns out right with shrubs, flower and trees.  They were very responsive.  They were pretty punctual because they were here before I was awake.

They were prompt. Their charges were reasonable. They did job when they said they would. They cleaned up and removed the tree and the stump as well. I believe the cost was between $300 and $400.

Had a very large tree in front yard that dropped all its leaves and looked like it might be dying. Arbor Doctor arborist came out and said the tree is an elm and has Dutch elm disease and is a goner. At my request he evaluated the other large trees in my yard with suggestions about pruning, removal, which are most susceptible to diseases and pests and which trees to keep. A true tree scientist/expert with no sales agenda. His company treats and cares for trees but refers all removal and pruning work.
