Approximately 10 years ago I ran into the franchisee for the local outdoor lighting perspectives at the home and Garden show. Their pricing was so high that it was almost laughable however my wife owns an advertising agency and we bartered advertising for a pretty hefty outdoor lighting system. We had down lights on a very long driveway ( 12 lights) at least as many of lights on the hillside in the front of our home and probably six spotlights accent the house. The results were very nice and aside from bulbs burning out all the time that were insultingly expensive if you bought through them. I had no complaints with the company. Here's where it became a problem? Over the years you will need service on the systems, trees grow, landscapers cut lines, and fixtures wear out. When I called the franchisee I found out that the master company revoked his franchise and give it to someone else. My first experience with the new franchise was pretty much as expected. I asked them to come out and changed light bulbs and repair broken light and they sent two people ( so they can bill me for two people time) and tried to explain to me that I need to upgrade my entire system to an LED system because overall would be far less expensive lol. I realize that this tactic may work on some suburban soccer moms who have no understanding of the value of money because they get it from their spouse however it took almost all of my restraint not to just laugh at him. I asked him to replace a couple of light bulbs and fix the broken light nothing more. Then I got to listen to a dissertation about how I need to be in a light bulb replacement program which is only $500 year, that's right... $500 a year for them to come out and replace light bulbs that are burned out. The pattern here is extremely obvious this company is the equivalent to a buy here pay here car lot who is always working an angle.
When I finally sold my home I called the lighting guys because my new property has at least 25% more exterior lights and three three professional transformers. Some of the lights worked, some didn't, I just want someone to come out and fix what they could and disconnect anything that was unrepairable. Again, this company comes out because they need to give me an estimate instead of just billing hourly. I'll spare the reader's the entire story and just summarize the rest with the facts. The owner came out and spent two and half hours of my time lecturing me how all of my lights are garbage and need to be replaced with their incredibly overpriced plastic fixtures. He went into painful detail explaining the very rudimentary physics behind electricity and white LED fixtures are more efficient than incandescent bulbs. Please understand this is not what I asked him to do. Over and over again I specifically asked them to give me a price to fix the wire and repair what they could. After a couple of hours of this he says he needs to put together an estimate and get back to me. For the record, if your so called professional cant give you a reasonable ballpark after two hours of walking around your property you should probably call someone else. Just as I expected he comes back with this outrageous estimate which includes replacing lights which I specifically said I did not want to replace. His estimate was approximately $1600 which was a slap in the face considering I made it very clear I just want someone to repair what I had. Again, he tried to explain to me that my equipment was substandard and needed to be replaced. I told him that I consulted with his company because they have a specific expertise in low voltage lighting and should be able repair my equipment as they advertise quickly thus inexpensively. The truth is they're not interested in providing any service other than replacing your lights with theirs. Here's the kicker he actually said I would be better off working with another company because he was concerned about safety lol. he even made a Hail Mary offer to help me save some money? He was going to sell me some used fixtures off of a project where the owner gave them to him for free. So he's going to charge me for equipment that he replaced another job? Naturally, I called another company who came out and found one of the three transformers were broken thus the reason the lights weren't working and identified most of my fixtures as Kichler, as well as the transformers. If you've done any shopping for outdoor lighting you'll know that this is about the best that money can buy. So, outdoor lighting perspectives was so incompetent and shifty that they were going to replace my professional lighting with their franchise garbage rather than just trying to find what was wrong with my system. Consequently, the landscaping company I hired who ultimately fixed the lights did itfor half the price of outdoor lighting perspectives and the yard looks great. (Naturescape, I found them on Angie's list)
You really should avoid these guys, there is absolutely nothing that they sell that you couldn't do on your own or pay half as much for someone else to do. At an absolute minimum you should always get at least two or three estimates... If you do that with these guys will find out how expensive they are and that their products aren't even comparable to professional lighting. It's basically the difference between a full-service pump at the gas station ( which really doesn't exist anymore) and getting out and pumping yourself for half the price. I suppose when you realize you didn't exactly the same thing, you feel stupid . Here's a tip... Check out eBay or even Home Depot, you can buy complete lighting kits and Transformers that are all LED for a few hundred dollars these days. If you can plug an extension cord in a wall, you could spend an afternoon running the cable along your house and clipping in the likes. It will save you an enormous amount of money.
"We are part of the largest outdoor lighting franchise system in the US which gives us tremendous buying power and access to the latest technology. Since I purchased the territory four years ago my team and I have grown the business by 300%. We have achieved success through professional design, service and support, superior products and fair prices. Our hourly rate is $10 per hour cheaper than the average hourly rate for electricians. In my four years of ownership I had no business dealings with member Miller prior to our meeting which took place in early August. I believe he wanted free advice which I happily provided along with a quote. I believe his feelings of ill will stem from an experience 10 yrs ago. We strive every day to satisfy our growing customer base and as the comments on this site illustrate I am very proud of what we have accomplished. I am also confident that we will continue to improve. Thank you for reading my response."
Tim came out one evening shortly after I called and using real lights and fixtures he demonstrated what the area would look like and made notes as to what he proposed to do. Shortly afterward he sent a proposal indicating all fixtures and lights he recommended using.
We accepted his proposal and he began work shortly thereafter. His team was able to fiinish the project in a day and that evening we were able to enjoy our wonderful ?light show.?
There were a couple of things we felt needed tweeking and he came out as happily the second time as he did the first time to address our concerns.
All the personnel associated with the company are pleasant and helpful and know their product. I woud not hesitate to reommend Outdoor Lighting Perspectives to anyone who wants a first class job!
We recently decided we wanted all lights on from dusk to dawn and gave a call to Tim and we are able to do that with our system control whilst Tim is on the phone with us. He's always quick to respond and help.... No waiting around and calling with no return calls here. We are so far very impressed with his services.
