What a great experience! The staff was great and Dr. Summers was even better.
Dr. Summer listened to my worries and he actually cared about my cat.
I drove an hour from Troy and I would do it again in a heartbeat. They are the best!!!!!
Just wish they took dogs too!

Dr. Summers was my cat’s first veterinarian since I adopted her almost three years ago. He came highly recommended by a friend. I am extremely grateful to him and his staff for the great care they have given her. He is gentle, kind and thorough while keeping his prices reasonable. His approach to her care is practical and he has never sold me unnecessary services or treatments. The hospital also has natural products available to supplement traditional medicine, which I appreciate. Their office is beautiful and very clean (without the unpleasant scent of “sterile”). The atmosphere is warm and calming.
Upon my most recent visit to Scratching Post, the staff made accommodations to have my cat seen straight away (even though they were completely booked that day and I had no appointment). She was a very sick kitty, lethargic and barely able to move. Dr. Summers examined her, diagnosed her condition, then treated her immediately. She was in the hospital for several hours then released to me that evening. He explained in detail (with concern and kindness) about her condition and the treatment that was necessary to correct it. She began to show improvement within 12 hours. He called me the next morning, and the following day after that, to check on her status.
My beautiful kitty is now doing well and in good health. Although I now live quite far from Scratching Post Cat Hospital and Retreat, I will continue to go there for my cat’s health care. In the past three years, I have moved frequently -- several times it was out-of-state and I had to consult other veterinarians for one thing or another. I do my research before taking her to just anyone. I have taken her to Ft. Collin's, CO (the university hospital-a wonderful facility and staff as well as a top veterinary school) and in my opinion, Scratching Post, Dr. Summers and his staff are superior in their field in all categories (medical, customer service, etc.).
I highly recommend them for the care of your kitty.

I have been using them for about 4 or 5 years. They specialize in cats. The vet and all the staff are cat owners. They really care about the cats. The price is slightly high. I will continue to use them in the future.

They had him fit in between everything they were doing, but he had an abscess on his shoulder and they had to drain it and put in a drainage tube. I take my kitties there. I have 3 cats and they go there for their annual check ups and anything that happens in between like today. They are pretty friendly. They are pet people. They have all kinds of cats running around. It's a cat hospital and I don't know if they do other smaller animals, but there is always some kitty cats playing and stuff in the waiting room even though they have other cats that need to be adopted out. I just told them that if I work there, I would end up as an old cat lady because I would adopt more.

Samantha and I arrived in the office and checked in with Janice the receptionist. We waited less than 3 minutes and Dr. Summers had us come into one of the exaqm rooms. He greeted my cat and me by name and helped getting her out of her carrier. Dr. Summers took her vitals, weighed her all while speaking calmingly to Samantha the whole time. As the exam progressed he told me what was happening and what he was finiding and making comments on what was good and normal. He asked if I had any concerms about Samantha, which I did not. He asked if there was anything else I wanted to do, if we wanted to get her shots. I said we wanted all shots and he went and prepared the shots. Dr. Summers administered the shots being calm and reassuring to her. He told me about her possibly being tired and lethargic due to one of the shots and to call if she was not better in 24 hours. He said she had fleas and Dr. Summers suggested the generic alternative to Frontline to help save money. Dr. Summers helped to get Samantha back in her carrier and asked a final time if I had any questions. He said Good-bye and we went out to the recpection desk and cheked out.
The visit was a typical one. Smooth, calm, infromative, warm and open. I cannot say enough about how great Dr. Summers and all of his staff are to me and my cats.

There is more than one veterinarian there. We spent $17 on the medicine alone. Our interaction with them has been excellent. We have two older cats and as they got older they need more attention and medical care. The vet there is very attentive and very good at diagnostics and treatment. He returns phone calls and does a very good follow-up. We would tell others that it is not just an ordinary cat clinic, but they specialize in cats, so they are very good at what they do because they only deal with one type of animal. They are very kind and gentle. They also have an excellent boarding service there with a free area for the cats to run around and climb tree. It is really a great boarding facility if anyone had to have boarding done there as well.

I just moved to the Dayton area and found The Scratching Post on Angie's List. After reviewing their web site I decided to make an appointment because they specialize in cats. The staff was great! Everyone took an interest in both of my cats and came into the exam room to meet them. Dr. Summers conducted an extensive exam of both cats, especially my older cat whom I've had for almost 20 years. He provided consultation on several issues with my older cat, removed tarter buildup from some of his back teeth that had infected the gum line, drew blood for tests to determine if he has thyroid or kidney problems, and provided antibiotics for the gum infection. I've had to take my cats to several vets over the years because I move a lot and Dr. Summers and his staff have to be some of the best. I like that he didn't write off my older cat's problems on him being geriatric. Dr. Summers actually took the time to discuss what some of the causes/issues could be and recommend a course of action to make the deterimination and /or correct them. I will definitely be returning next year.

They also do pet boarding, but they only have cats. All of the holding areas have big windows and bird feeders outside the windows. So the cats aren’t just stuck in a room with all kinds of noise and stuff going on. They make the environment as pleasant as possible. They always seem to take the time to talk about what’s going on with the cats. This isn’t just going in, getting the blood work done and leaving the hospital, but they actually spend the time with you. They also make sure that all our questions are answered. We lost a cat a few years ago and they were very compassionate while we were there. They also sent us a sympathy card the following week and it was a handwritten card. So that was one thing that really stood out to me about them. I would highly recommend them. Their quality of care, sensitivity to feelings and the empathy they have not just with the cats, but also with the owners is the best. They take the time and each animal is important to them.

Dr. Summers and his crew are all thoroughly professional: knowledgeable and friendly to both cats and their owners. Their prices are extremely reasonable, and the best part is that you and your cats are far less stressed with a visit to this vet. They only treat cats, which means that your cat is happier with no giant dogs in the waiting room, and you are happier because you know this team is better with cats because they specialize. We live 45 minutes away and would never think of taking our cats anywhere else!
