We had a 14 year old roof that was suddenly having all types of issues and allowing water into the attic. One night after a downpour of rain we found that we had water in the kitchen where it was not supposed to be. A contractor friend recommended Jim Hughes Roofing and Guttering to come out and take a look at the roof and center vent to see if he could figure out where the water was coming in. Jim came out immediately and went into the attic and up on the roof. Jim determined what was happening with the center vent, repaired it, and eliminated further water damage. Further investigation indicated the roof was having some other issues so we asked Jim for an estimate to replace the roof and the existing gutters & Gutter Toppers. This estimate included tearing off all existing roofing materials down to the wood decking, replacing any damaged decing, installing ice guards along the gutterlines, installing new felt, installing drip edge flashing, roofing with a good quality shingle, addressing the attic ventilation system, and ridge cap. They also were to clean up and haul away all debris and eliminate all dropped nails, remove existing gutters & downspouts, and install new seamless gutters, downspouts, and gutter covers. Jim had indicated it would take 2 to 3 days to do all of the work outlined in his estimate. We agreed to contract for the work. He advised that he would be watchful of weather forecasts and advise us when a dry 3-day forecast was projected. When the weather looked promising he advised us as to the date/time they would begin work, when the dumpster would be arriving, etc. Jim advised us of the process, timeframes, staff performing the work, etc. Not only did he did his company do an excellent job performing all of the work involved but Jim did an exceptional job in communicating what was happening in the process. Jim's workmen were courteous, professional, and very hardworking. There were tarps lain down to ensure that roofing debris did not create problems with the deck, drive, porch, or landscaping. We were so surprised to see how neat and clean everything looked at the end of each work day. The roof was completed in 2 days, the gutters were all finished on day 3. Clearly, Jim and his crew were proud of the work they performed and the manner in which they did it. We are very happy with the way the new roof and gutters look. Apparently so are some neighbors who would stop and comment on how well the project was going. (One neighbor has already asked for an estimate to replace their roof!)
