Kern's Fireplace & Spa

We have already scheduled them to fix my fireplace. They did a pretty good job. Communication wasn't perfect but I really liked their serviceman. He was nice and polite. He cleaned up after himself.

My wife was interested in a 42" fireplace but we wanted to think about it.  He asked for a $500.00 deposit for good faith.  When we later looked at our statement we saw the $500.00 charge.  We looked at the bill and saw that he wrote it up for a 32" fireplace.  We decided not to go with a fireplace.  We called and the owner was out.  We talked to someone who told us that there were no refunds.  She said this was on the credit card slip and it was in extremely small writing.  I told her that we didn't order anything.  She told us that there was no way they would give us the $500.00 back.  I called the salesman and he said he had a file with hundreds of names of people that said they wanted to get their money back and that they would be out of business if they had to give people their money back.  He said there was no way they would refund these people.  I'm very unhappy that I had to pay $500.00 for nothing.  I thought it was a good faith holding fee and had no idea I would not be able to get a refund.  They should have made it extremely clear that I wouldn't get my money back.
