We called several fence companies over one weekend and the average bid was somewhere around $3500 and would take about a week and a half to get started. John came out on a Tuesday, gave the lowest bid of everybody and could start on a Thursday. Just like he said John's son and his friend came out and started worked on Thursday and finished that Friday and it couldn't be better.
Not only were we satisfied with the fence but they also put in a gate on our deck at our request which was very nice. Keep in mind that when it comes to job start times it's just two guys doing the job.
I would recommend Pickens Fence to anybody looking for a new fence.

*****10/25/14 UPDATE*******
Started calling a few weeks before work was scheduled to begin in July week 1. Left several messages but never received call backs. Finally tracked down another contact number - John's cell phone - and got ahold of john. He told me they were running behind and pushed the start date back another two weeks. Work finally started 7/22/14 & was completed 7/25/14. Initially I was happy with the quality and can understand the delays but I'm less than satisfied with the quality of the wood used. Within a week several boards and posts split, further inspection showed many imperfections and less than quality pieces of wood were used. One gate also started sagging with two weeks. Fence has a one year warranty and plan to have them make good on that warranty. Will update again when that time comes.

Warranty work was completed to our satisfaction, but this was not without additional messages left with no call backs and an overall lack of communication. We are pleased with the overall results and outcome but it was somewhat of a process to get to that point. With that said, they do not use subcontractors and the owners son, Ryan, takes pride in his work and was always more than accommodating.
"Our goal as a company is to produce a quality product. We are glad we could complete the project and provide some changes that the client agreed to. As you can see the gates were a major change of this project instead of the traditional log type gate. As a small company we understand that at times schedules can be overwhelming. We try to prioritize our projects. There are many factors such as weather, suppliers, permits, landscaping projects, and so much more that constantly change our installation schedule. Once in awhile there is a client we just can never seem to get the job started. It happens and you still want to provide quality service and the last thing you want to do is throw in a job just to get it done. Since we know and feel this issue we try to help others such as The Fence Guy. It's unfortunate that this client had to feel our frustrations, but we are pleased we could help this client and The Fence Guy in the end. As a small business owner we thank all of our clients for supporting small businesses and look forward to providing quality products and services to our future clients!"

"UNFORTUNATELY OUR CUSTOMER HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE IN HIS OPINION. IN OUR OPINION, THE ONLY LEGITIMATE COMPLAINT WOULD BE THE FACT THAT STARTING AND COMPLETING THE FENCE TEAR OUT AND INSTALLATION TOOK MUCH LONGER THAN EXPECTED. DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE ARE A VERY SMALL COMPANY AND WE WERE BLESSED WITH A LOT OF WORK THIS YEAR WE DID FALL BEHIND IN INSTALLATION. HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH WE DO NOT CALL OUR CUSTOMERS EVERY DAY OR WEEK TO STAY IN TOUCH, WE DO KEEP IN CONTACT. WE ARE UPFRONT ABOUT BEING A SMALL COMPANY AND WE ALSO MENTION THAT WE REFUSE TO HIRE EXTRA INSTALLATION CREWS TO GET CAUGHT UP. WE WILL NOT SUBSTITUTE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. THIS MEMBER'S FINAL PROJECT OF REPLACING THE BACK FENCE LINE HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND LOOKS GREAT. AS FOR THE EXISTING FENCE REPAIR, WE INSTALLED A FEW NEW POSTS AS STATED ON THE CONTRACT AND THERE IS NOTHING TEMPORARY ABOUT THE INSTALLATION. AS FOR OTHER ITEMS OF COMPLAINT, THEY SIMPLY WERE NEVER BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION AND WERE NOT PART OF THE CONTRACT. THE GAS CARDS MENTIONED WERE A TOKEN OF APPRECIATION AND WAS AN UNFORTUNATE SITUATION WHERE WE PURCHASED THE GIFT CARDS FROM A LOCAL SCHOOL FUNDRAISER THE CARDS WERE OLD AND HAD DECREASED IN VALUE. THAT WAS UNFORTUNATE AND HAS SINCE BEEN CORRECTED. ONCE AGAIN THE MEMBER CHOSE TO BLAST US ON ANGIE'S LIST AND DID NOT CONTACT PICKENS FENCE CO. DIRECTLY TO MAKE US AWARE OF THE SITUATION."
