The project went very well, especially those areas that Nick was responsible for. We had some minor snags with the different contractor we used for the vanity and granite, particularly the granite pieces. Nick was very patient as we worked through those problems, that ultimately impacted his schedule and coordination of getting the shower enclosure installed. We do have more projects on the horizon, and will definitely be giving Nick a call when we are ready, and highly recommend Diven Contracting for those who are considering remodeling or who might have other home construction projects.
Description of Work: We purchased our home 17 years ago. Our shower began to leak and had hard water damage, we had a whirlpool bathtub that we rarely used, vinyl flooring, and builder-grade 72" oak vanity with cultured marble top, and a walk-in closet that was inefficiently organized. We asked two different contractors, including Nick, to give us a proposed design and estimate. We really liked the design that Nick gave us and the price was very reasonable for the amount of work. Nick removed the tub, shower, vanity/top, flooring, old trim and old doors. He repaired water-damaged areas, including replacing of sub-floor where needed. He hauled away all debris that resulted from the demolition and kept the work area very clean. Nick guided us very well on the quality of materials to purchase, but was still very flexible to allow us to choose what we wanted. We simply picked out materials such as tile, fixtures, etc., provided him the store name and SKU, and he would pick up for us and included the costs for these in his final estimate. We asked nick to also remove the door between the bathroom and the walk-in closet, since we always leave it open anyway. He did so and finished very nicely, looks like the door was never there. He put down new porcelain tile on the floor, custom-built a beautiful neo-angle shower with a frameless glass/door enclosure and glazed ceramic walls with shelves and inset, and installed a new closet system in our walk-in closet. We also asked him to replace the old stained pine wood trim with solid oak trim. Because the original builder didn't install an exhaust fan above the shower, we asked Nick to install a new one. The fan is very nice, with a timer that allows the fan to continue to run after showering and automatically turn off. When installing the vent for the new fan, Nick noticed problems with the vents the builder had installed and proposed a way to fix them, probably saving us $1,000s down the road. We purchased a water softener to fix the hard water problem, and when we realized it involved a bit more plumbing and electrical work than we were comfortable with, Nick gave me a quote for installation that was very reasonable, so we asked him to do that as well. For the new vanity, granite top and granite shower curbing, we went with another company, only because we really liked their product vs. what Nick recommended. Nick was very good about coordinating with the other contractors, and even pointed out a potential problem with the granite curbing, which we were then able to work with the contractor to get resolved. Nick also painted the ceiling and walls of the entire bathroom area. Lastly, we asked Nick to install new pre-hung 6-panel oak doors in place of the previous hollow stained birch doors. As for payment, Nick provided a very reasonable payment schedule, with some money up front to cover material costs, then payments at various points of completion throughout the project.
