After repeated failed attempts, we contracted another contractor at an additional cost of $1080 to finish items 4-6 above at the end of June, 2014. Rich never returned $163 he pocketed for returning some of the materials that were not used. Biggest disappointment for this contractor is his failure to be punctual, or respect for his work or responsibility . He had horrible work habits and work ethics. He did not properly secure the project area/Kitchen so dust spread everywhere in the House ( Formal dining, Living room/family room and study). My wife and I were exceptionally good to him and treated them nicely, gave him money as needed and even in advance with Home Depot gift card. I even had to pick up everyday after their mess; partial or empty pop glasses, food wrappers, debri and other construction items. All in all, it was a big let down and I will recommend this contractor for anything. Oh, yes, one more thing, he is clever and purposely vague about writing a detailed Contract.
"I feel bad about the way this project ended. This customer made me rewrite this contract three times til he was satisfied then still hand wrote stuff in on the day of signing. He had all he wanted at the time of signing. He repeatedly would add work dragging a 3 week job into a six week job. I was there for 5 wks straight myself. I never bought anything that he told me not to but then would change his mind later about. I try to only work on one project at a time to avoid confusion. He had us work on three at one time. Every time I would try an do something he would tell me no we'll do that later. We had a plastic barrier up at his house for most of the project, he had us take it down. We left the project after six wks because we could never finish a project because he had more projects to do. He said an I quote "if I let you finish one project you will never come back to do any more". I am very honest with all customers including him. He refused to have 3000 lbs of material delivered cause it cost to much. So I had to pay to rent a uhaul to pay to deliver his material an never got reimbursed for that. He was buying all material an we had to wait for him find a deal before we could get it. I am sorry this project ended the way it did but I did everything in my contract an then some for less than the contract amount. He only paid me $6000 of a$7500 project."
Rich was on time for estimate. Was detailed in his explanation of the work he would do and the time it would take. Let us know ahead of time of any changes in schedule. We made some changes to type and color of tile and Rich was helpful in getting samples for us. Work done on time. Cleaned up and removed all debris. Very pleased with our new shower.
Had to call Rich back for minor repair and he took care of it promptly.
Rich is very personable and easy to work with.
Several years ago I replaced the furnace with a high efficiency powered vent furnace. The only item using the central house flue was the hot water tank. By replacing the hot water tank with a powered vent I was able to reclaim the vent stack as living space. This enabled a larger vanity to be installed and will enable a larger first floor vanity to be installed later.
Tub, tile, floor and vanity removal went well. Kept the carpets outside the bathroom clean and dust in the house to a minimum. Wall demo to reclaim the vent stack went equally well.
Rich was good at communicating with us so that he understood exactly what we were after. We went and picked out the vanity, counter top and flooring. He picked up these items and helped pick out the tub, lighting fixture and exhaust fan.
Remodeling never goes exactly according to plan and we had a few minor setbacks such as having to travel farther than expected to get the correct hot water tank and some unseen water damage to the subfloor.
Installation included new shower fixtures, sink fixtures, re-installing toilet, new water cutoffs, electrical for new fan and individual switch, light fixtures, flooring, paint and hvac vent covers.
Rich communicated his schedule well and when things didn't go as planned. Entire project took a week.
Looks GREAT! If I had to get really picky, I could complain that some of the brush strokes in the paint may have been short.
The plumbing under the sink had a minor drip and after calling him that night Rich was out the next morning to fix it. What more could you ask?
Rich and his crew are an earthy bunch of guys who have been doing this a long time. They had a new guy they were training with them and never gave the new any slack.
Good price, great customer interaction, and I don't have to clean that miserable grout ever again!
"Thanks to the [removed member name] for their allowing me to do their work. They were as patient with me as I try to be with customers. I am glad to hear that they are happy with my work and I will take their concerns about my business seriously and use them to make improvement in my business. Thanks again."
-Everything was done correctly
-Price was middle of the road
-Work longer hours to ensure the work was completed
Bad
-Just one person and it took a long time.
Overall, I was happy with the results and would recommend him.
He is also going to fix my roof and paint my house. He is a good worker.
