When the crew arrived, the first thing out of the crew leader's mouth was that I could pay a gratuity before or after the move, either in cash or by check. I was dumbfounded. No other mover I dealt with even hinted at such a thing. Toward the end of the move I ended up paying an additional amount, after it became apparent that things might not be completed otherwise. The job was to be done on a fixed price basis, and the crew leader said it was taking longer than expected, but it was not my fault that the company might have miscalculated something.
During the move itself, the movers damaged a vintage piece of bedroom furniture, gashing or scratching it in several places. When I pointed it out to the crew leader, he just shrugged and said that sort of thing happens. After the move, we discovered that the crew put lots of boxes in the wrong rooms, even though the boxes were clearly marked, and that several items were poorly packed and damaged to varying degrees in transit. We did not learn about some of this until some months later, so the only thing we put in a claim for was the damage to the bedroom furniture.
I dealt with the company's director of operations, Bill, before and after the move, and he is the only person to whom I would give high marks. He was a pleasure to deal with and tried to make things right. He sent out his regular furniture repair person promptly, but we did not like the guy and he wanted to refinish the entire piece, which was not necessary. We found our own repair person, and Bill agreed that we could use him, and paid his bill promptly.
Despite Bill's efforts, I would not use this company again under any conceivable set of circumstances.
Do's: Tell them everything about your moving situation. They will not try and take advantage of you. Instead they will work as a true consultative moving service and provide the best and most cost-effective solution to your needs
Do's: Don't hesitate to ask questions. They will answer them. That relieved a lot of stress for me. For example scheduling with all people involved, etc... By asking questions up front it actually lessened the amount of overall calling back and forth as the project went along.
Don't: Don't waste your time second guessing their project planning. They actually do plan the project before they do the move. If there is something they don't feel comfortable about they will tell you. There were several collectibles that they felt would definitely need special packing. At the same time - they didn't consider everything needing to be treated that same way.
Don't Waste time doing a lot of competitive bidding. I understand one should get other bids but make sure you are truly getting apples to apples services.
Don't immediately presume you need to use their storage services. I think everyone's situation is unique as is storage. But, again, Explain whole situation to them including your storage requirements. In trusting them I did as well and they felt in my case using my friend as a storage location was the best way to go. Through all this I have learned that estimating what one's storage needs are, and will be, is one of the worst things a person can estimate. I think they understand that and understand that we can all be quite vulnerable. They seemed to understand what would be best for my needs. FYI, I learned through all this that they have a lot of different types of storage - I didn't even know that there are all these different types of storage available!
Based on Lupica's commitment I terminated my apartment lease and signed a lease for the new apartment. Following Lupica's recommendation I called them at Noon on the scheduled day. At that time Lupica told me they were cancelling the "Big Deal" and they would not do the move. There was no crew and truck coming. I was beyond shocked, completely packed and waiting.
When I asked how they could cancel their commitment to me to move me THAT DAY their answer was that they had no written contract with me, they were cancelling the Angie's List deal and I could take it up with Angie's List. They refused to discuss it any further, wished me a nice day and hung up.
They were totally unprofessional and could not have cared less about the predicament they put me in. Worst customer service I have ever experienced.
As of now, I am still waiting this morning (Saturday) to hear back from anyone. I still have no idea what is going on.
On Friday, I had moved everything outside to try and expedite the process. As they never showed, I had to have all of my helpers move it back in again. This whole fiasco not only caused problems with my project, but with tenants, my carpet installers and all of the other people involved in my moving project.
In essence I feel like they have taken my money and not provided the service. I cannot find a mover that quick on a Saturday, and this has caused so much trouble for me!
"It is unfortunate that when we cannot meet the satisfaction level of each customer we serve. Our past record indicates that we take our customers and the level of service with great pride and integrity. In this case the customer did sustain minor damage to a few items. We willingly offered to pay her claim within the limits of the Valuation Protection Coverage as selected by the customer at the beginning of her move. We are required to offer FREE coverage at a basic minimal level as require by the Public Utilites Commission Ohio, additional levels of ceverage are available at small additional charges depending on coverage limits. This customer acknowledged the FREE coverage by palcing her initials in the apppropriate space as provide in the coverage section of the contract. The limits of coverage state that reimbursement will be paid at $0.60 per pound per article. The claim was paid in the amount of around $40.00+. We this payment we met our full and legal obligation and were 100% in compliance with the Ohio Law. However, after careful consideration of the customers claim we decided, after the fact, that we would reimburse the customer an additional $88.00 to meet the limits of coverage under the "Replacement Valuation Protection" limits which would pay $128.00. The customer recived her additional payment and cashed the check. Even after our re-consideration and payment this customer chose not to update her report to your organization, it appears that she is still not satisfied or she desires to maintain our rating with an overall grade of "F". This is quite disheartening when we went above and beyond our obligation and gave the customer "The Benefit of The Doubt" We certainly will learn from this customers action that it is true "Nice Guys Finish Last!""
Lupica Movers arrived at the appointed time with two men who carefully and efficiently placed our furniture in our home exactly as we wanted it. They were courteous, friendly, respectful, well-organized, and had all of their documentation in hand and well organized. Brad, the lead mover, who has been with Lupica for more than 17 years I am told, is an experienced professional mover. His coworker was excellent, as well -- a hard worker. The move was completed in a very timely manner for an exceptionally reasonable price.
We cannot say enough wonderful things about Lupica Movers. Everyone at Lupica Movers makes the customers feel as if they are the most important people in the world. An ordinarily very stressful exercise was made much less stressful by the way that we and our belongings were treated -- at a great price. We are very pleased with our second experience with Lupica Movers this year.
As far as the company goes, they were responsive and friendly over the phone in getting them scheduled and their pricing was great. We moved on a Saturday, but they have the same pricing structure on weekends as they do on weekdays. Unlinke most other moving companies, they don't start charging until they arrive and the transportation fee is very small (around $20). Great experience all around!
