"Acme Canine cannot improve without the input of our clients. The experience the Kings had is not the norm. We were going through a growth period we were not prepared for. We are sorry for the misunderstanding we caused their family. We have now established better communication procedures with clients and would be happy to provide a training session at no charge to compensate them for the inconvenience."
"Thank you for taking the time to share your Acme experience. We appreciate the kind words and will do our best to continue providing the same quality service we have been known for since 2004."
The staff was pleasant and friendly when I dropped of my dog, Autumn. They asked about any special needs for this visit and checked her current vaccination status. Autumn then was released to play with the other dogs.
That night, I received an email update on her activities and feeding and a picture of her playing with other boarders. The staff worked on reinforcing commands for her to wait, heel, sit and down.
When I picked up my dog, she was relaxing on the deck, and happy to see me.
"Thank you for your kind words. Our goal is to provide as home-like a setting as possible while giving the dogs in our care the structure and quality attention they need. Appreciate your input."
Later that day, I realized I had no idea what really happened that morning so I asked for written documentation of the details surrounding Gracie?s death. I was told the kennel worker was at home filling out an incident report and sending it in. Having heard nothing from Acme, I sent a follow-up letter on April 18 asking for policy change, financial reimbursement of my investment in Gracie and again, requested a copy of the incident report. I asked for a response from them by April 25.
To date, I have still not received a copy of the incident report. And for the record, I never got that call from Laura regarding a memorial service. I heard some details of my puppy?s death, along with the general public, on a Channel 4 Investigates TV news story that aired locally on April 30. In that same news story, I heard for the first time of a policy change at Acme regarding the use of martingale collars versus a chocker collar. In my opinion, this is a step in the right direction, but there is more work needed to keep dogs safe in their care. It is also my opinion that Acme has not given me the respect or concern I deserved having had my dog killed in their facility, under their care. I deserve to know what happened that morning and I would think they would want me to personally be aware of any policy change resulting from the death of my puppy. To be fair, I received a letter from them on May 6 (nearly 5 weeks after her death) and another one on May 13. Both were full of many words but neither directly or clearly addressed any of my requests. I could not be more disappointed in the way they have responded to this wrongful death.
If you take your beloved pet to a facility for daycare, boarding or training, please be aware of their policies regarding collars, leads and supervision. This awareness could save your pet?s life. The unthinkable can happen without proper policies and procedures in place. If bringing this awareness to the general public saves one pet?s life, Gracie?s death will not have been in vain. RIP sweet girl. You will always be loved and missed.
"We are heartbroken at the loss of this sweet dog. While nothing can change this unfortunate accident, we have provided compensation and our condolences in hope that these might help the owners in their healing process. We have reviewed the incident as well as our policies and procedures and memorialized Gracie in the April issue of our e-newsletter."
"Thank you for the review. We try our best to provide the best service possible."
"Glad to hear we are providing quality service. Appreciate your kind words. Be watching for our new website."

"Thank you for your kind words. We're happy to assist our clients with all aspects of their canine life."
"Thank you for your kind words. We strive to provide our clients with the very best."
"Thanks so much for your kind words. We do our best to educate dog owners on understanding their dogs. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the training. Half the reason for the assessment is to determine the best training methods to accomplish the goals you have with your dog."
Acted indifferent towards our dog, not even greeting him or acting as if she liked him.
Tried showing us some examples of their training method , Our dog is 3 years old and has had training in the basic commands which he does well with. Her example was very confusing to our dog giving two commands at the same time and then getting upset that our dog didn't do as commanded. Her constant jerking at his leash to get his attention seemed rather harse and excessive. Good thing we had a harness instead of a collar on him or I would have stopped her before our dog started choking.
If someone had a untrained pet thier method starting from the beginning may work, but our dog has had training and seems like changing commands from what he already knows would be counter productive.
At the rate per hour training it wouldn't be worth it.
We explained to the trainer that he has training and even showed her how well he listened to them.
She just ignored that and gave two command's at the same time, Sit, no Sit , no repeatedly. I was confuse just listening to her no wonder our dog couldn't understand.
We where hoping for much better than this based on reading thier website information.
"We always appreciate feedback from clients as it helps us to improve our abilities and communication skills. We are not totally positive trainers. Although we agree that praise is very important and there is a place in training to use treats, we believe obedience should be a way of life and that a dog should comply with what their owner is asking of them. By doing so problem behaviors disappear. Dogs learn best in a black and white environment. Giving a command and following up with either praise (if the command is done correctly) or a consequence (if the command is not completed) clearly defines what is expected of the dog. In return the dog sees the person as a pack leader and ultimately becomes more reliable out of respect. This technique works for any dog no matter what method it was previously trained with. Sometimes what we know to be effective to correct problem behaviors may not be a method the owner feels comfortable with. We are basing our recommendations on our experiences from successfully training over 4000 dogs as well as knowledge gained from other trainers. We would be happy to work with the owner should they be willing to try this method of training to correct their dog’s behavior."
