After they sized the ring they called and asked me if I knew that 2 of the emeralds were cracked. I told them no they had not been cracked when I took the ring in. They ageed to replace the emeralds. It took them over a month to do the work. When I got my ring back I saw that they had replaced the emeralds. But the ring was still too big and 3 diamonds were missing. I took the ring to another jeweler and they showed me under a microscope that they had replaced my emeralds with smaller ones and that the emeralds had been glued in rather than secured with the prongs. The glue served to fill in the empty space since the emeralds were smaller than the originals. The other jeweler also told me not to put the ring in hot water as it would loosen the stones. I asked for an estimate about what it would take to replace the 3 diamonds. They said $90. So I will have this new jeweler do the work. But I am sick about the ring. I mean 2 emeralds and 3 diamonds were lost while they sized the ring. And then to glue the stones in was poor service. It is a normal part of my day to wash my hands in hot water. Now I have to worry about getting the ring wet. I was not a cheap ring, I got it at Macy's and probably spent $400 on it. And to top it off, the ring is still too big. The new jeweler advised against sizing it again because it would not be good to stress the stones in the ring anymore. So I guess I will have to wear it on a different finger.
