The work crew of 8 men arrived at 8:15 am (only slightly late, because of a detour on the route). They worked diligently all day and completed the job by 5:00pm. They were respectful and professional, even when I asked detailed technical questions about how the job was to be done. They asked before trimming tree branches that were in the way of their trucks and offered to move the trimmings and dirt, which they had to excavate, to wherever I wanted. They accepted my input as to how the paving should be done around a new addition that was being constructed at the same time. The foreman and I had a discussion about the grading and drainage, and he eventually convinced me that it should be done his way, although he did not seem to mind that I questioned his plan and even double-checked his height estimates with a laser leveling system. The finished job was as nearly perfect as I could have expected, with only minor imperfections that I suspect one would find on any similar job.
The only deviation that I could point to as a less than perfect experience relates to the final price: During a discussion about the exact shape of the area to be paved, the foreman told me that the salesman had not measured the area correctly and that the job, as I wanted it, would require more material than had been anticipated. He requested an additional $1200 to do the job as I wanted it done, to which I agreed. Actually he did not really demand the extra amount, and it's not clear how we would have resolved it, had I not agreed -- some additional negotiation, I presume.
The additional amount seemed reasonable, but, in truth, I did not go over the exact measurements with him, and I'm not sure I would have been able to understand them, even if I had. So there's a remote possibility that this was a bait-and-switch tactic, although I have no evidence or proof of that, and do not even mean to accuse them of it. I only mention it because it's possible, and I have no way to confirm or disprove it. I would be interested in whether other customers have any similar experience.
