BUYER BEWARE: I purchase a custom door from Pella back in Nov 2021. The salesman was great, and he took a credit card payment for half the amount (3750.00) before leaving and scheduled my install for June 2022. There was a delay in getting the door put in, but the day that it was put in, 2 men showed up. One was younger and the other was an older gentleman. The older gentleman did not speak English, so I communicated through the younger man during the process of install. When install was over, the younger man asked how I wanted to pay. I stated that I wanted to pay with credit card. He informed me it was too late in the day to pay with card (Why didn’t he ask me prior to them shutting off payments? How would I know there was a deadline when I paid the deposit even later during the initial payment?). He asked if I had a check, and I stated no, that my checkbook was at the barn where my daughters horse is located. He mentioned that I could pay the next day over the phone, but it really needed to be settled that day. So, I went into the safe and got out 4000.00 I had from selling our previous family horse a few months prior. I put the money in an envelope and walked it outside. The older man was loading trash and debris into the back on the truck, and I handed him the envelope and told him thank you. The envelope contained the payment and a 250.00 tip, due to the guys working outside in the heat all day. He shook his head and smiled and we went our separate ways. About a week later I get a phone call from Pella asking for my payment. I explained that I gave the older man cash, and the situation. They stated that they would check with the installers and get back to me. To my surprise, they called back and said they didn’t have the money!!! I was shocked! I told them that the man was loading trash when we gave it to him, so maybe it ended up in the back of the truck. They checked into that, and found out that it had not. At this point I am starting to realize I was stolen from by Pella employees/contractors. Did the guy not tell me about the credit card machine so I would have to pay another way? Did the man I gave the money to think it was all a tip because he couldn’t speak English and didn’t understand me? I am very upset. About a week later I get a call from someone from corporate telling me I have to pay the balance or they will be taking me to court! WHAT? Your installers stole from me, and now you are requiring me to PAY again? I am just a single person, this is a HUGE company. 3750.00 is make or break for my family. This company makes millions. And they are coming after me for money that their installers did not report as paid? I am not sure what kind of company abides by this lack of morals and customer services, but I am appalled. I would recommend that no one use them, unless you want to be scammed, stolen from, or gone after in court to repay something you already did. DO NOT BUY!

We started the process of getting pricing from 3 different contractors for a patio door replacement back in February 2021. The first contractor never came on site, but had prepared a quote for us the prior year and just used the information from that to give us pricing. The 2nd contractor insisted that both my wife and I be present and was able to come out on a Saturday when we were both home. They were very high pressure and their price was nearly double the 1st contractor and they expected us to sign on the dotted line right then and there. The third contractor was from Pella Window and Door, dba Gunton. There was some difficulty getting an appointment at first - I had made a change and the appointment got lost somehow. I was finally able to get a rep to show up named Dave. Dave spent a significant amount of time here getting measurements and going over options - colors, hardware, and custom stain matching. After consulting with my wife, Dave came back out to finalize the contract and gave us an install date that was about 3 months out - June 4th. I'm assuming this long lead time had more to do with COVID and the supply chain disruption that is going on. The custom stain matching is pretty involved. The door is in our kitchen, so we want to have the trim match the kitchen cabinets. Initially, the plan was for me to take a cabinet door to Sherwin Williams for them to match the stain and then report to Gunton the details for them to purchase the stain. That strategy didn't end up working because Sherwin Williams required a purchase from me. I made some attempts to get a hold of Dave to get this stain matching procedure started and was not getting any response until late April. Dave came out and retrieved the cabinet door, which had to be shipped to the main office in Cleveland to perform the stain matching. About a week later, we received samples of the trim stained with our custom stain through the mail and it matched perfectly. We were given a mailer to send our approved sample back, which was sent back the next business day, but it seemed to take a very long time to reach them. In the meantime, I wanted to get our cabinet face back from Cleveland. This was sent back in a truck and given to our sales rep Dave who held on to it until the day before our installation, when he hand delivered it to us. A few days before our installation was scheduled to take place, I received a call from Jill, who is a project coordinator in their Cleveland office, to let us know the door manufacture was delayed and it would not be ready on the scheduled installation date. It was projected to be ready by June 8. On June 11, I received a call from Jill stating our door was ready and could they install it on June 12 - a Saturday. This worked out well. The install date arrived, which ended up being a beautiful sunny day (thankfully). A crew of three lead by Badirque worked hard and long and did absolutely excellent quality work on the installation. However, Badirque let me know that the top and bottom strike plates for the door that remains in place were not provided and that I should contact my sales rep. I had one e-mail and one call to my sales rep Dave about this issue and never received a response to either of those. Project coordinator Jill took my call yesterday and is investigating getting this resolved. In Dave's defense, he and his wife had a newborn in this timeframe, so that could explain (at least partially) his poor responsiveness to me over this time.

Took a lot of time to get the window ordered or even a response from Customer service. Charged over 300 bucks to remove a window and replace it that included 3-5 screws being taken off and replaced. That was in addition to the cost of the window itself. Problem is when you go with pella you want to stay with pella. In Cleveland there is only one company that deals with PELLA so you are at their mercy

Screens poorly designed and cheaply manufactured. PELLA’s resolution totally unacceptable. They put 1/4” strip of stick on insulation on screen frame bottom to fill the 1/4 inch gap between bottom of screen frame and window sill. This jerry rigged! fix did not keep insects out, The adhesive attracted dirt and bugs which stuck to it. The stick on insulation pulled off after a couple of months. Pella states “the screens were BUILT AS DESIGNED AND PERFORMING PER SPECIFICATION” I wrote to Mr. Tim Yaggi CEO requesting an expiation of this ambiguous statement. NO REPLY. Does it mean designed to allow insects to enter ? Then I guess they are performing per specification. I would really like to post the very detailed and self explanatory pictures but if I can’t check out their site on YELP or CONSUMER AFFAIRS.

Gene arrived on time. Was very efficient. Took care of hardware on three windows. They are working like new. Couldn't open and close before. Now it is smooth and easy. Gene is great and the manager of the service department, Jared, was helpful.

Really liked the sales rep. Hated the hard sell pricing 'if you buy today....'. Dislike the constant stream of ad pricing that varies.

At first, I was thrilled with the new windows. They looked great. They were installed in the summer of 2006. The trouble began in the fall of 2007. I do not have central air in my house. That means that I need to open windows in the summer time. When fall 2007 hit, I went to close them and not one of the 10 double hung windows would close properly. I called and complained but was told that my ONE year warranty had expired. I had been told that we had a ten year warranty at the high pressure sales pitch my husband and I succumbed to. But, no, checking the actual small print with a magnifying glass...it was ONE year. Basically I was told that the insulation had gotten "puffy" because I left the windows open too much. So, my husband was ill and we could not afford to pay the $100 or so per window to have them repaired I am still living with windows that cannot be closed or even locked and it's just too bad so sad for me. The winter wind and snow just comes in whenever it blows and snows and that is all. The only reason I have waited this long to review is because it used to cost money to get on Angie's list and now it is free. I am going to start replacing all these windows because I'll never be able to sell this house with things the way they are now. But with my husband deceased, I'll have to do it one window at a time. Also the second time I tried to wash the windows, one of the tilt in ones had the little slide clasp and spring come popping out when I went to open it. The small crank open bathroom window is great though. But 1 out of 11 is not good odds.

The windows are absolutely beautiful inside and out. The carpentry work was outstanding on the interior and the house looks amazing on the outside. The installers were so professional and they left the house perfectly clean! I would definitely use Pella Windows again! Just an extra note - I really appreciate that the Pella sales rep explained to me the difference between going with window inserts and the full frame replacement. If I had gone with the window inserts that some other companies offer, you can save some money but you lose window size. I saw another house in our neighborhood that went with the inserts and their windows look so much smaller than they did before. Also when they tore out our old windows, there was a little water damage under the frames of a couple of windows. If I didn't do a full replacement, we may have continued to have water coming through the old frames. I am so glad that I decided to go with the full window replacement.

The salesman rushed through the process which included measuring all windows. 4 of the windows needed to be remade because they were too small. The installers used too much caulk on windows which makes it looks messy. The trim on one window was very sloppy and not the workmanship I would expect. My concerns were ignored no one came out even after I requested someone to come and look at it.

Horrible experience. The crew rushed, the crew lead left before the work was completed, none of the windows are plumb and level, they ignored EPA regulations regarding lead paint, and several had exterior cladding that was angled toward the house. They did reinstall several of the windows but they still aren't as perfect as they should be. They sub-contracted the install when I expected Pella employees to do the install. Additionally they damaged my floor, scratched a dresser, etc. The damages required an insurance claim which has yet to be resolved because their sub-contractor intentionally delayed as long as possible. I would NEVER buy Pella windows from Gunton Corp and recommend that you find a better contractor.
