The House Surgeon

Mr. Cohen was right on time for the appointment. He purchased the disposal for me and then installed it. In checking for leaks, we discovered that my kitchen faucet was leaking at the center gasket. Mr. Cohen then returned another day, and in quick order, installed the new faucet. He brought everything he needed to do both jobs and worked quickly and professionally. He was very helpful in helping me choose the type of replacement disposal best suited to my needs. Mr. Cohen was friendly throughout and answered all of my questions. Professional from start to finish.

Mr. Cohen was terrific. He came right after we called him and we fully expected that he would have to do major repair work including tearing apart a wall to fix our pocket door. He had told us the job could cost as much as $600. Instead, when he came he said he would try something less major first to see if he could fix it. He managed to get the door back on track and working again without any major work and only charged us $100. We were so impressed with his honesty and ability and highly recommend him to anyone needing household repairs.

Great! Mr. Cohen arrived when he said he would, clearly knew what he was doing and completed the tasks. I'm happy.

Hiring someone you trust to work in your house is never easy. Working with Hershey was the exception. He was quick to respond. Extremely reasonable price. Punctual on the day of install. Great attention to detail and installed the lights perfectly. And even more importantly was great to talk to and educated me along the way. He was great with my kids as well. I happily would welcome him back for my next project!!!!!

Mr. Cohen answered my call on first try, agreed to come to my home within a few days, purchased the disposal and brought it to my home, arrived a few minutes early, and did everything needed to install the new disposal, including some additional electrical writing that was needed. He was very pleasant, professional, and kind. He gave me good advice regarding which kind of disposal to purchase and advised me twice about the warranty info.

It took awhile for us to get together but I cannot blame the vendor completely since I travel in my job. Once contact was made and estimate provided, work was done quickly and efficiently.

Faster & more beautiful than we expected

He's terrific. He's done a lot repairs for us over the years in an older house, and even when we got a newer one. While he does subcontract some of the work, he supervises everything. 

Mr. Cohen was very pleasant to work with. He always came on time, the times when he had to cancel due to illness, he called me ahead of time and we made plans for an alternate date.
The first time Mr. Cohen came over, he spent about 35-45 minutes working on the pocket door and was able to get it working. However, he showed me how the rollers were bent and the track should be replaced. He did not even charge me for this first visit. We made plans for him to come back and replace the track and rollers.
He came back, replaced the track and rollers (which he had purchased ahead of time). The materials he used were of good quality.
In order to keep the prices down, he didn't bring his drywall guy in for the first day so I wouldn't get charged for someone sitting around. The second time he came, he brought Eugene his drywall guy, who was also a very pleasant person to work with. He got right down to work and worked very quickly and efficiently. 
Mr. Cohen took care that everything was cleaned up and that the work was done well.
His prices were very reasonable considering he spent total 3-4 hours working on the project along with getting the materials.
Overall, I know next time I job that is too big for me to do on my own, I will be calling the house surgeon.

The plumbing replacement job on our two sinks started 4 months ago when we noticed regular leaks that were not fixable in the old faucets in these two sinks. Our problems, though, began when we bought replacement faucets on our own that were not entirely compatible with the existing sinks. Wider holes needed to be drilled to accommodate them; additional parts were required beyond what came with the packages we ordered. All this took considerable extra time (fortunately, we have more sinks in our house that do work well!). We had to wait for more parts to be delivered (not easily found) and for other workers (not easily available for small jobs) to do the marble drilling. Coordinating everyone's schedule, including our own, and screw-ups on parts delivered by the distributors; all of the usual things that can go wrong and take lots of extra time actually happened.
Throughout, Herschey was patient with us and entirely helpful, doing all the other small fixes we needed done around the house, and deferring the billing until everything would be completely done. Herschey felt as bad as we did that the two sinks could not be finished as quickly as we all wished, because of things totally out of his or our control, and he assured us that his final bill would be reasonable, despite the many trips he had to make to our house over these 4 months.
When he finally presented us with his bill today, I was very pleasantly pleased to see that he was totally true to his word. He had easily incurred many more hours of time than he showed, but he did not pass them on to us in his final bill. The bill was considerably smaller than what I had expected based on the total time he incurred. It's comforting when you find a professional like Herschey who is both fair and in it for the long-term.

I have used  Herschey a couple of times in the past.  He does fantastic work.  He has a whole range of services he can provide such as plumbing, electric.  He has specialists working for him where necessary.

Herschey is great- we called him to fix a broken doorknob and he was able to come quickly to fix it. He additionally took care of some other issues that the previous contractor had installed incorrectly. We will definitely be using him in the future.

That went great. He did a great job. He was very friendly and his service was very prompt. His employees came in, did the ob quick, cleaned up after themselves and I was very satisfied.

Came within hours of my call.  Did the job efficiently and economically. This is the first job I had him do, and now I'm thinking of other projects that he can do that I have been putting off for the last few months.  Very satisfied. 

Man, I wish I found Hershey earlier!  He fixed things that prior service providers missed or did wrong, is reasonably-priced, accommodated my requests, walked me through everything he needed to do, and was a pleasure to work with.  I'll hire him again for anything I need!!

Mr. Cohen was very responsive.  In fact, I happened to call when he was in the area and he came to my home that day to look at the problem and give me an estimate.  Later that SAME day, he returned with his assistant and the siding was reattached with the appropriate siding nails.   I've never experienced such prompt service.   The cost was very reasonable and the service was extraordinary.  I'm sure that my job was a relatively small one, but Mr. Cohen treated me and the work I needed done as important.  I really appreciated that as much as having the work done.
As a side note, I had been "blown off" (in the prior month) by two other siding companies, who spoke to me, but never followed through on their promises to return my call.   Obviously, for those two companies the job was too small to bother with (although I think that their responses were short-sighted given that I will be replacing all of my siding in the next year or two).  

The reason for the remodeling was to take a cramped half-bath and create one with more space. The toilet and sink were in when I bought the house so they were both at least 20 years old. The flooring was old and starting to crack. The workmanship was excellent and the final result was better than I had anticipated. The timing of the work was on schedule and I was able to paint the bathroom after the toilet and sink were removed but before the flooring was installed. Herschey and the worker he used for the flooring were both prompt and cleaned up the workspace before leaving each day. I have talked to Herschey about some other work I have planned and I will definitely be using his services in the future.

Herschey came to review many items that needed attention in the home.  He made suggestions to minimize cost and who could best do each job.  All was done on a reasonable schedule over a 3 week period acceptable to me. All workmen showed up on schedule.

The House Doctor was great, arriving promptly and extremely knowledgeable. He worked until the planing and lock chamber was perfect.

Herschey was a pleasure to deal with.  Went out of his way to make sure I was happy.  Will definitely use again.
