The visit was awful. I had heard great things about Dr. Messerman, and it sounds like he used to be a very good dentist. At this point, I think he may be suffering from dementia. He attacked me by pinching the nerve in my jaw very forcefully with his hand. I have never felt such extreme pain in my life, even in childbirth. After he ran out of the room the hygienist told me he had attacked another woman the same way. On top of all of that, he used the wrong material in my crowns, even after I had warned him about my sensitivity issue. He actually withheld the information about the material from me when he gave me the paperwork. Because of this I had to have three teeth destroyed in order to remove the bad crowns he had cemented into my mouth. He worked on me for about 6th months before I figured out what he'd done. So every time he saw me he was doing damage to me, and lying to me about how everything would be fine.

I brought x-rays with me which had been taken 3 months prior. The initial cost was very high but was supposed to include two visits and x-rays. When I said that I already had recent x-rays, I was told that the cost was already discounted so no credit for that. After 1/2 hour of small talk, he briefly looked at the x-rays I brought and said that they were of such poor quality that he could not use them and would need to do his own. I objected but eventually gave in. His assistant then took a full mouth of digital x-rays and it was the most uncomfortable x-ray experience I have ever had. I was supposed to return for a 2nd appointment but based on comments from Dr. Messerman it was clear to me that he wanted to remove and replace almost all of the caps in my mouth and create a cosmetically beautiful look at great expense, so I opted not to return. My goal was to have done what was needed for a healthy mouth, rather than the ideal appearance. If Dr. Messerman had been listed for cosmetic dentistry I would not have made an appointment! Bottom line he is all about the money! When I requested a partial refund since I did not want to return for a 2nd visit and did not want more x-rays in the first place, it was refused.
Subsequently, I returned to my original dentist after requesting the "new" x-rays and asked them to compare the two sets. There was no difference and I was subjected to an unnecessary set of x-rays and radiation.
If you need to have old mercury fillings removed or want to avoid fluoride, he would be good for that.

He is wonderful.  He is a biological dentist and the only one in town to remove mercury filling safely.  He goes through a whole procedure to make sure you don't inhale the fumes.  He is very thorough.  He suggested to use fluoride-free toothpaste and I see a big difference.  He has made my teeth so much better.  You couldn't ask for a better group of people.  The staff is wonderful.  I called on a Friday and got an appointment on Tuesday.  The office is clean and in a good neighborhood.

He's been very responsive to a couple emergencies I've had. He's very, very thorough. He's not on any lists of discounts so my insurance doesn't cover his fees entirely, but I think he's worth going to. He's extremely competent, knowledgeable and careful. I feel very confident going to him and will absolutely continue to in the future.
