I wouldn't advise anybody to go to them. The whole thing was upsetting because of the way they acted. It was the scariness of the situation. She ran out on the street after me when I went to get into my car. She started threatening me. I'll never go back there.

I unfortunately experienced exactly the same thing as the other bad reviews on this company.

My concern in particular, is that a large portion of their customer base if estate related. He is verbally abusive and I would hate for someone who just lost a family member to be spoken to look he did me.

I took a few pieces to him and he was about the rudest person I have experienced in my life. I showed him the pieces and he immediately stated that they were worthless and there was nothing I had brought in that he would be interested in. I told him I didnt even know if I would sell anything to him yet!When i iniitally called him he told me that he had been in the business for many years and that I could make an appointment to come in and he would be happy to educate me on the business. So I decided to go in, around 530pm. (They close at 6pm apparently) He seemed to be rushing me and just kept telling me that the things I had were worthless. I had other items, I didnt bring in that I wanted to show him. And he said if they looked like the items I had shown him, then to not bother.

Maybe he is only friendly to you if you bring in items that he is interested in.

Very good, efficient and told me what they could and could not do. Very positive experience!

After checking Angie's List for guidance, a pleasant phone call with Jim Irwin prompted our family to meet with him to evaluate a coin collection and some jewelry from a family estate.  We were welcomed into his business and felt very comfortable with his knowledgeable and fair evaluation of our goods and subsequently sold some of the items we had brought for him to see.  He offered advice on the items he was not interested in and we maximized our return in taking his advice.  I would highly recommend using Shaker Coin & Jewelry for any transaction.

This was our first experience with selling silver. It was an excellent experience with Jim.

I took some old coins in for an appraisal of value and was treated excellently by Mr Jim Irwin.  He was professional, courteous and fair.  I received an accurate and quick assessment of my holdings.

I called to ask if I needed an appointment, and they said no.  They evaluated the gold and silver in less than an hour and gave me what I believe to be a fair price.  I had contacted 2 other places and both wanted to keep the jewelry for a couple of days, which I did not want to do -- and the price quoted on the phone by Shaker was higher than the price quoted by the other 2 companies.

Hedy is terrific and explained gold pricing and how she calculated what my gold jewelry was worth. Because they do not spend much overhead on advertising, fancy stores, etc. they can afford to offer a higher rate than other chain stores.

Selection is sometimes somewhat limited, but they always have fair and honest pricing. They let you take as much time as you need to view the coins before you purchase them.

The experience at Shaker Coin and Jewelry Company was effortless and satisfying from the first phone contact.  The owner explained to me in detail the criteria for evaluating the gold and silver coins that I brought to him for appraisal.  He gave me generous estimates on the value of the coins, which I had previously evaluated.  He purchased the coins from me there on the spot.  The whole visit was highlighted by a brief talk on historical fluctuations in the market value of gold.  I would highly recommend this dealer if you want to sell gold or silver coins.

We took our old sterling silverware set to another company that buys old silverware and we were given a price (we felt was fair) that they would pay us for the silverware.  Then we looked on Angie's List, found good reports on Shaker Coin & Jewelry Co., and we took our set there for a second opinion.  We spoke with Jim who offered us much more for our silverware.  He was very pleasant, professional, and it was a very pleasant experience.  Jim fostered a sense of trust just from his pleasant manner.

The service is very professional. Information regarding US minted gold coins is posted on the walls, so that coin sellers can determine what their coins are worth. The owner went over all calculations and asked if I agreed with the numbers. The owner used the same price for gold that I saw posted on the internet that day. Very above board.
