Jim Buchanan Electrical Service

Our tenant called to report an electrical problem that required the power to be turned off in the house till the matter could be resolved. It was an urgent matter and my previous electrician said he was not available for several days so I found Jim Buchanan on Angie’s List, and also as a referal from a friend. Jim responded promptly to my call, agreed to come the following day. Jim reviewed the problem and resolved the issue which required removal of a Sub-panel and rewording. Power was restored. I showed Jim another old panel in the basement and quoted for replacing and upgrading that subpanel and we agreed on a date for the work. Both jobs totaled several hours of work combined. Price shown in this review is the combined total for both visits. Jim and his son returned as scheduled, replaced the Sub-panel promptly and insured all was working properly. Both men are very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. I was very pleased with the quality of Jim Buchanan’s work, found pricing to be fair and I will definitely contact Jim again for any electrical needs.

The electrical outlet outside is fine.

When Jim replaced the two bathroom ceiling fans, he did some damage to the ceilings when he cut out the old fans.  The damage was considerable with the one ceiling.  He said that he had a friend who was a plasterer who would come and fix it - no problem.  When the plasterer came, he said that the damage to the one ceiling was so extensive that he would have to charge us for it.  Part of this was due to some water leakage that was undetected.  So, I agreed to pay him.  But when he was doing the work, he found that Jim had not replaced the vent pipes.  So, the old vent pipes were 3 inches and the new fan was 4 inches.  The result was a damper flap that got stuck in the open position, which would allow cold air to come into the house when the fan wasn't in use.  Because of all this extra work, I had to pay the plasterer $150 to fix the job Jim had done.

I also had a problem with an overhead light that needed a new socket.  Jim was to come by the following week to do the work.  But after the plasterer found all these problems, Jim never showed up again.  I didn't call him about it, because I didn't have any confidence that he would do a good job.

I was very pleased and will use them again in the future.

He is really good at older homes. He knows what to do. He is very reasonable. He is nice and friendly. You can trust him in your home alone. You don’t have to be there. I can’t say enough about him. He is very nice. He is prompt.
