ASPHALT PAVING-CLEVELAND HOME

At first I was having a hard time with them, but in the end they really came around and did a great job!  A lot of the difficulties had to to with weather, but they really straightened everything out and made up for any set backs.

The company contacted us because we had used another company years before to resurface our driveway. The operson on the phone told us that he had bought the company because the original owner had passed away. The original company did a beautiful job on our driveway. The new owner asked if we needed our driveway resurfaced or replaced and we said that we had been talking about doing just that and we arranged an appointment for an estimate. When Sam arrived, he told us that we did not need to tear out and replace our driveway unless we want to go to concrete, which we didn't. He gave us quotes on concrete, resurfacing and sealcoating. We wanted the resurfacing. Although we had a price, we had no written contract nor any details of the work to be done. Our bad! We expected to have our driveway repaired with a layer of asphalt and some repairs to two sunken areas and the crumbling approach. The company owner assured us that the driveway would look "beautiful." No one ever called to schedule the work, they just showed up. Never knocked on the door to let us know they were there. What they did was spread a thin layer of sealer, dumped some chunky asphalt in the holes and a couple of places on the approach. My sister gave them a check when the job was completed. When I got home and saw what they had done, I was livid that we paid over $1,200 for a really lousy job. The driveway looked better before they started working on it. I immediatly called the bank and stopped payment on the check. I called the company and voiced my concerns. I was told the owner would call back. When he did he talked to my sister; told her they would come out and "redo" the job. We told them that our expectation was a resurface with new ashphalt. He said don't worry, we'll make it look "beautiful" (again). My sister also called to express our dissatisfaction and opinion that what they did was in no way worth $1,250.00. Again, he promised to make it right. At least this time they called to let us know when they would be out to redo the driveway. When they arrived, I went over every area that was our concern. The supervisor told me that if they put down a new layer of asphalt, it would cost extra. I told him we weren't going to pay any extra and that we wanted the driveway to look "beautiful" as the owner had promised. The put another layer of sealer on and admittedly it does look somewhat better, but the deepest of the sunken areas still looks awful. My sister and I are tired of trying to fight these folks, so we released the check and consider the incident an expensive lesson: NEVER USE CONTRACTORS THAT ARE NOT ON ANGIE'S LIST!!!!!

It was a good experience. I like the garage, it was well-built. We did have one problem that wasn't a big issue and not necessarily their fault; There had been a building code change just before our garage went up so now we are having to go back and change a few things, but i am not unhappy with him. Otherwise, I thought they were professional and I am happy with the finished product.

We found 34 exposed nails, 2x6 rafters were not cut properly and put in the wrong place and the felt paper was left off in a few locations. Drip edges were simply not installed on the eaves. The ice guard was installed improperly and not extended to the edges of the roof. There was never a slot cut on the ridge for proper venting. Also they did not extend shingles far enough to access the gutters. Scraps were put in garbage can, but not removed. Shingle overlap spacing was in some areas incorrect. Obviously this has been the most miserable experience!

He is not licensed in Berea, he did not pull a permit, and the job violated several city ordinances. He did the job two years ago, but it started leaking in January of this year. He said it was due to sewer and excess rain, which is not true. He blamed it on the salesman and charged twice the going rate. He won't respond to my inquiries and he won't do anything to fix it. I am looking into taking him to court. I sent him a letter itemizing my complaints and giving him a deadline before contacting the court system. He lied to my attorney about the work that he had done. He said he attached the work to a dry well - the Berea officials put green dye down and they found it in the sanitary sewer down the street. He blamed his salesman for selling me the job - not his fault.

He was responsive and cooperated, he was good, however some of the sub contractors were sub par.

I FEEL THREATENED WHEN THEY ARE AROUND. I DO NOT WANT THEM ON MY PROPERTY.

SAM HAS DONE WORK FOR ME IN THE PAST AND HE IS VERY GOOD AT GETTING THE JOB DONE AS HE SAYS. I ALWAYS GET A CALL BACK WHEN I CALL HIM. AND HE WILL CORRECT ANY PROBLEM I HAVE. THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THE JOB IS THAT ONLY A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE JOB WAS DONE THE GARAGE FLOOR HAS A HAIRLINE CRACK FROM FRONT TO BACK. I DID TALK TO SAM AND HE SAID TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT THIS WINTER IF IT GETS BIGGER HE WILL TAKE CARE OF IT WITH APOXY. I AM JUST DISAPPOINTED THIS HAPPENED, THE GARAGE LOOKS GREAT AND WAS WELL CONSTRUCTED AND I LOVE IT EACH TIME I PUT MY CAR AWAY OR TAKE IT OUT.

EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL, PLEASURE TO WORK WITH

USED SUBCONTRACTORS, AND ADDITIONAL WORK WAS NEEDED FOR REPAIR. WHILE WAITING FOR COMPANY TO RETURN FOR REPAIRS AND SEALCOATING, ASPHALT BEGAN TO DECOMPOSE. REPAIRS FINALLY COMPLETED MANY MONTHS LATER.
