The were fast and efficient.
The Big Deal certificate said it was for window sealing. But actually, all they did was an inspection. My house is 30 years old and the windows have never been replaced, so I assumed window sealing would help. They inspected all of my windows and said they were fine, so they did nothing. They did seal around the door to my garage.
I never would have paid $149 for them to come seal one door. It is not a big deal, in fact, it is a bad deal.
The 2 gentlemen who came to my house were very nice and prompt, but I did not receive the service I thought I had purchased.
Steve's employee went right to work weather stripping the upstairs windows, while Steve took care of weather stripping the doors and caulking windows downstairs. Steve even sealed a drafty double door that lead from an enclosed porch to our living room, that we could never completely seal ourselves.
I noticed an immediate improvement with regards to drafts coming through the front and back door, along with two particularly drafty bedroom windows. Steve even caulked and sealed a few extra areas around the doors and windows at my request for no charge.
They were here about an hour and half with no mess left behind. Our experience was positive, and we thought the deal was well worth it!
Steve Beniot Jr, owner of SMB Home Improvememts arrived on time. Both my wife and I were very busy with other things so we let Steve get to work. Steve touched up the caulk on some of our windows. He then informed us that he had inspected the weather stripping of our doors and said that the doors were fine and not in need of any repair. I'd say that the total amount of time that Steve was in our home from start to finish was about 30 minutes.
A few days later when I had more time, I inspected the work and found that the majority of the windows were left untouched and the weather stripping on the bottom of two of the doors were indeed in need of repair. Some of the stripping had either worn away or had ripped away from the bottom of the door. This is not surprising since the house is 22 years old and nothing has been done to the weather stripping the entire time. This is precisely the type of problem that we had hoped to cure by purchasing the SMB Home Improvement's Big Deal.
I called Steve Benoit to complain and request a partial refund of $100.00 since he did not do the work that his Big Deal stated he would do. Also I told him that I did not feel that his 30 minutes of caulking equaled a value of $250.00.
Steve informed me that he had inspected the doors and thought they were fine and that he had done what was required of him in terms of the deal that I had purchased. He described a scenario in which he had inspected a home of another customer that had purchased his deal. After concluding that the windows and doors were in good repair, he did no actual work on the windows and doors, but still this constituted a $250.00 value.
I guess my question is simple one. Who in their right mind would willingly pay $250.00 to have someone inspect their weather stripping and caulk? My understanding of Steve's Big Deal was to pay $149.00 for $250.00 worth of work, not a $250.00 inspection.
Steve also complained that after rendering to Angie's List their share of the $149.00 fee, he was not making any money on his deal. I responded that Steve's contract with Angie's List is irrelevant. What has it to do with the $250.00 value that Steve promised me in his Big Deal?
The bottom line is that I don't think that we will save a dime more in heating costs than if Steve had never come. I believe that the value of his deal fell woefully below $250.00. In short, I believe we were cheated. What a waste of time and money.
"I am sorry Member didnt feel he got his money's worth. He had already taken care of his bottom windows with caulking, i went threw and checked all of them. i sealed all the windows upstairs and checked the doors, and the stripping looked great.I have done 12 of these so far, and had no complaints, actually thank you's.Some jobs take more material and longer to do then others. I was at Members a little over an hour actually. Talked with him upstairs as i was working on a window, and explained to him what to look for when buying windows(even if not from me). showed him his windows were in bad shape and needing new ones. What i am doing with this coupon is helping home owners get threw the winter as inexpensive as possible. Member will have to put plastic up to save as if they were new. What i did will definitely help him threw the winter,as i found some big gaps in the caulking, that was letting the cold in.When i was done,i went over everything i had done and wrote it on the paper he signed saying the work was done to his satisfaction. I stand by my response to this complaint. The member came off threatening me for a refund, stated he was a very good writer, and he would write a long, bad review if he didn't get a refund. I completed what was asked of the coupon. Stephen M Benoit Jr-Owner/Installer"
My Windows got removed and installed in one day. All the clean up was done had no mess to clean up. Been happy ever sense.
