Art gave us a prompt quote and was the best quote that we got. We told him we accepted his bid and he started work right away and finished in the time frame that he gave. The workmanship was very nice and looks good as well.

When I called Art Neal for an estimate, I wasn't even sure what I needed him to do! I only knew that my back yard was pooling water in heavy rain and that to my eyes the whole yard was an eyesore and needed serious help. A  year ago I had pulled out the large bushes on one side of my front garden, but knew I was unable to take on the other side with many more bushes, which wrapped around the side of the house.  Art looked everything over, talked to me in his steady and quiet manner, and together we worked out a plan to take on the most serious problems now, and plan for other projects in the future.  Although I have a smallish house and city-sized yard, the previous owners had built three decks at different levels -- the large (18x30ft) deck which I wanted to keep, and two smaller decks that had been built around several large trees; the trees had grown significantly and were cut into by the decking.  So the biggest job was to remove those two decks and fill in that area and about 1/2 of my back yard to raise the yard to even with my neighbor's and level it out to eliminate the water pooling.  While they were working on the removal phase, Art and Erin unearthed and saved a number of larger natural stones which they later used to ring the trees and place in the front gardens.  Then they pulled out the large bushes.  They cleaned up the area and hauled it all away.  I felt very confident leaving Art in charge and went on my planned vacation with my family.  When I returned, all of the flower beds had been cleaned out and mulched, and the remaining plantings moved around; the front fence and steps painted; and all the fence line clear and clean.  What was left to do was the huge dirt-moving phase, and that they handled in one day!  Did I mention how hard Art and Erin work on a job?  They come early and work straight through until they've accomplished everything they planned for the day!  Just like in all the other work, again Art did more than he had to.  In addition to the work in the back yard, he noticed that one of the big old trees in the front had too much root growth above ground and filled in around that tree, and another one in similar condition in the back.  When all of the dirt was in place, Art seeded and put down straw to cover.  Soon I should have new grass coming up, and next spring I should have no more water problems due to my yard being lower than those of my neighbors.  Whenever we'd talk, Art always told me, "You're going to love the way this turns out.  'Cause if you don't we'll fix it until you do."  Well, he was right:  I do love the way it turned out and he didn't need to "fix" anything because he did it all beautifully to start with.  As a single woman of an age where I don't take on some of the jobs I might have tried myself in years past, I appreciated that Art talked honestly with me and did not ever talk down to me.  If I didn't understand some aspect, he patiently explained.  His estimate was extremely close to the final cost, with the only difference being the amount of additional dirt which we discovered was needed when those two decks were pulled out.  When I am ready to put in new plantings, you can bet I will call Art again.  And I am looking forward to getting an estimate soon on resurfacing my remaining deck.  I can actually enjoy being outside in my yard now, and the upkeep is manageable for me.  I highly recommend calling Art for yard and deck work.
