In a word, excellent! I just moved into the area and had been looking for a new vet and I'm very lucky to have found the Animal Wellness Hospital. My dog is large and gets tense at the vet but he seemed very comfortable with Dr Hendricks. The declaw went smoothly, my cat seemed to be in very little pain after the procedure and quickly returned to his everyday routine. Both exams were very thorough and time was taken to answer all of my questions.
Dr Hendricks, her technician Kate and all of the rest of the staff are very friendly and obviously love animals. The Animal Wellness Hospital gets an A+ from me!
Very unexpectedly on Saturday March 16 my geriatric terrier became very ill....Of course it was saturday and then I looked at the clock and it was 12:15 and they close at 12 on Saturdays....
I called the office anyway, thinking I could at least leave a voice mail and let them know that I was headed to the emergency clinic....Believe it or not Snicker's favorite vet tech answered the phone and the Dr. was still in the building....I told Katie that I though Snickers was dying, she put me on hold for about 10 seconds then said can you bring her over....Even though I was very sad about the condition of Snickers I was very relieved to know that we were going to a place and with people that I know she has always loved....
Upon examination it was determined that she indeed was dying and was very very ill....The decision was easy although the process was not....Katie and Dr. Michelle were are empathetic as could be and handled everything very respectfully....
Believe it or not on Monday morning March 18Ih I had to make the call again....Sophie (who had been treated for many issues - she was rescued when she was 8) had not slept well the night before and appeared to be lethargic....I was hoping it was just the loss of Snickers but concerned that it was something much more...Of course who was there, her favorite vet tech and vet....Yes the 3 of us got to go through the whole experience again....
Needless to say I was devastated....The entire crew on hand that day wsd as empathetic and compassionate as could be and I once again felt so lucky that at least I was there with people that I loved and trusted...
Through the years I have had dogs with congenital kidney failures, brain tumors etc...I think the things that I have always loved about the place is
1) The staff has been in tact for a long time....Again I do not want to say how long Sue and Katie have been there (don't want to let you know how really old they are...LOL)
2) I have always been given my options of how to handle or care for a particular issue and the decision has always been mine....I have never felt pressured to have test etc. that I did not think were necessary....Dr. Michelle's job is to tell me what all my options are and my job is to decide what path we will go....
3) They have always been caring about the pets health and my ability to care for the pet.....Example, I had to learn to give one of my dogs fluids every other day.....I thought that it would be impossible but after they showed me how to do it and had confidence in my ability I then gained confidence....
All in all, I hate going to a vet and more importantly paying vet bills (just like everyone I can assume) but I love knowing that I will get my monies worth, I will be in a wonderful environment and the pets will be well cared for.....
