During the planning meetings many things were said that weren't transferred to the contract. My son told them he wanted a second drain in the garage and they said that's included with you adding a 3rd car garage. When the garage was poured it had no "0" drains. They said oh well you didn't contract for them. He said yes we even talked about the second drain,. We remember that conversation but we didn't put it into the drawings too Bad was the answer. The siding had trim finishes on it that were atrocious, pieces ended up with rough edges on bump outs, etc. , sorry there is nothing we can do, but after a month of complaining they finally sent the siding company back out and they fixed it up to approximately 70%of a good job. The outside light blocks and electrical outlets still have half inch gaps around them for wasps and stuff to get into. The garage doors were installed shoddily. The door operators they said were included, weren't. We hired a pretty reputable company to come put the operators on and he said the doors are hung terrible and track needed rehung so they wouldn't fall off . He also said with such a high garage they should have been run up so  they aren't so low when they open but that would require remounting track completely. The credits he got back for doing the flooring ourselves were insulting. The flooring credit for the whole house was approximately $ 3400.00. thats just over $1.20 per square foot. They were going to finish the  floors for $1.41/sq ft.? Cabinets and vanities credit was around $2500. Can you put kitchen cabinets in for less than $10,000? I don't think so, then add the counter tops and the vanities,  Ridiculous. The front door had a piece of wood chipped out of the trim about 1"x1/2", they wouldn't replace it, they sanded both pieces of trim down to make it look like that was the design and filled it with putty and painted it. He complained and they said cant help you its too good of a door for us to replace, live with it.
It was his fault (caveat emptor-buyer beware) for not finding out these numbers ahead of time to make sure it was still a good deal, and he should have had an attorney look over the contract and verify that things like the garage drain were in there, but verbally they told him they were. But he was comfortable because they had built my home and my brothers twenty years before but things have changed, really changed. I think they are still a viable option but you better know what your getting now, because their customer service and desire to please the customer is gone. Your gonna be stuck with whatever they do and that's it. So use this to help you make an informed decision. The overall bones of the house is very good, framing quality, masonry, windows , roof, all good. Insulators also did a good job. The finish trim guy was very lazy and left ten foot sections of trim unnailed and pulled away from the wall, and we had to go back with a brad nailer and shoot it tight.
