Realtor that I was in contact with (Bryan Wharton) was not available the day I went to look at apartments, so I went to them on my own with the keys from their office. After choosing an apartment and signing a lease I moved in to an apartment that was not very clean, and had many maintenance issues. For the first month, they were helpful to me fixing the maintenance issues, after that I did not hear from them until 6 months into my lease. I was called and asked if I wanted to renew my lease for the next year. At that point in time I did not know whether or not I would still have a job in the area so I asked if I had to let them know by a certain day to keep my apartment, they said no. A week or so later they called to say that they would be showing my apartment to a potential renter. A week later they called again to say that they were showing it to another renter. At this point I asked if the rent stayed the same for the next year and if my deposit would roll over if I stayed. They replied that it would and I said I was interested in staying. This contact was all through the receptionists, never directly through Bryan, my landlord. A few months later I hadn't heard from them again, so I called Bryan asking how I renewed my lease; did it happen automatically, or did I have to come in and sign something? He said that they had rented out my apartment for next year a month ago. No one told me. He said I should have known better than to not talk to him directly about wanting to renew. I moved out at the end of my lease and cleaned my apartment before I left. A month later I received my deposit back, with $200 taken out for cleaning services. After a week of trying to get a hold of Bryan, he responded that I should have filled out a form when I moved in asking it to be cleaned if it was not (a form which I was never given) and that in my lease it said I had to pay for any cleaning they deemed necessary. Though he would not be specific about what he thought needed to be cleaned. In the end he agreed to give me $100 of my money back, but would not admit that they were treating me unfairly. Overall his contact with me was unprofessional, constantly treating me like a child, or someone who just didn't understand.
