Susan S.
Aug 2015
The crew arrived on time. They were running a half day behind but did call and notify us of this change in time. They started Monday, July 20th and finished July 23, 2015. The steps to the side door were removed for excavation by the work crew. On July 23, 2015 the steps were left in the middle of the driveway with promise to return to replace steps after the concrete dries. Our basement was a disaster when they left. Clean up should have been part of the job. Dust would be understandable but there were so many concrete chunks that we had to sweep them up before we could vacuum the floor. Dust covered everything including the TV and furniture. The basement bathroom was a MESS! They never asked if it could be used but we assumed they would be using it. This isn't a bathroom commonly used by us. The toilet was left filled and clogged with poop!! Yet when we asked the crew if they clogged the toilet with BM they denied understanding of the word BM. The biggest problem was the new concrete on the driveway. It was blended poorly and lacked room for expansion in the cement. This cement cracked within the week. The company told us this was due to excessive temperatures. Winter is coming with even more excessive temperatures. Another issue was that their work trucks gouged and scraped our driveway which they said they would power wash. They said they power washed twice when they were done but their wasn't any difference in the driveway. By July 27th the company hadn't returned to replace the steps. They are too heavy for us to move. I called the company and was told that this is the first notification they had that the steps were in the middle of the driveway. You really shouldn't have to tell a company that moved your steps in the first place to come back and replace them. Unfortunately they couldn't return to our house till August 3, 2015 to replace the steps and the other issues. Marvin and crew returned on August 3, 2015. My mother started to give him the list of things we were concerned about. Marvin stated he was only here to replace steps. He pushed the steps almost back to the house but there is still enough of a gap that water could enter. The steps need to be pushed closer to the house. Marvin did do some clean up in the basement and removed a large board they left on the back of our house. Then Marvin became insolent with my 84 year old mother and ran to their trucks and left. I looked out the window and my 84 year old mother is running down the driveway into the street to stop them. She caught them because they had to turn around in a cul-de-sac to leave our neighborhood. Marvin and his crew returned to our house once again only to run away again when they heard me on the phone with their company. Very unprofessional!! The company owner has refused to meet with us either in person or by phone. We offered to drive to his office but they keep telling us he's out of the office. The owner is quick on collecting the check but not in returning for follow-up. We had a phone conversation with Sarah at their company today. We are told they won't be able to return till September to address these problems. They are busy. The other frustrating thing they told us today was that the first notification they had of the steps being in the middle of the driveway was on July 27th and they returned to replace the steps on August 3rd. She said that was just a week later. I don't think a customer needs to notify the company of the steps being in the middle of the driveway when they are the ones that moved the steps. That's like a surgeon telling a patient that you need to notify them about taking out your stitches. The bottom line is that the owner has refused to meet or talk with us. He only talks to us through his employees. We feel for $4800 we should be able to talk with him directly. I see where he has used the line "You can't please everyone" in his response to a negative review but he isn't even trying in this case. They have only returned once since the job was done and the crew was insolent with my mother.
