"Hatton Brick & Chimney was contacted and came within days after my request for a free estimate. They did not try to add on anything that was not necessary to the repair. I had water pouring and and around my chimney and they made it a priority to come for the estimate and come to do the work. They were by far lower than the other estimates I got and they did not try to sell me an entire new chimney for thousands of dollars like the others. They did great work, very professional, and cleaned up their mess. They were fast and efficient too! I would hire them again if the needed. Since the brick used on or chimney is no longer made, they had creative fixes! Very impressed!"

"They repaired my chimney crown in 2016 and they gave me a 10 year warranty on the work. Recently I found that some of the waterproofing sealent had weather damage. I called and Mr Moseley came to inspect the damage. He returned as soon as weather permitting and did the repairs to the crown sealant. Fast, friendly and reliable company. I definitely would recommend this company."

"I can say it all in one word. It was excellent. They don't come out to your house. You put your sensors up yourself. They program them before they're sent to your house and you put the sensors up. You activate your system and then they automatically start monitoring your house. I received the control panel, smoke sensor, carbon monoxide sensor, and door and window sensors. It was very easy to install, not complicated at all. The monitoring is little bit more expensive than some of other security systems."

"They did a great job. They solved all the problems I had with the chimney and it’s been working perfectly ever since. They also fixed a problem on the roof around the chimney; they replaced the wood around the chimney with a material that would never rot, so they fixed it even better than it was before. It took them a couple of days to do the work. They took care of all the cleanup as well. We've been real happy with them."

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

Asphalt shingles have varying thicknesses across the length, so failing to stagger shingles from one row to the next will leave you with bulges and bumps if the thicker sections stack on top of each other. Not only is this unappealing, but it increases the risk of water intrusion. Stagger each new row by 6 inches to avoid this issue.

Individual soft spots can often be repaired if they’re caught early enough and the damage isn’t extensive. If soft spots cover a large portion of the roof or the roof sheathing is in poor condition, you’ll probably need to replace your roof to preserve its structural integrity.

A roof pitch that’s too shallow won’t shed runoff as quickly, so you have an increased risk of water intrusion through the seams between your roofing materials. In colder climates, snow and ice will accumulate more easily on your roof, which can add enough weight to cause roof collapse and structural damage to your home.

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.

The number of roof vents necessary for a 2,000-square-foot house depends on several factors. The calculation depends on the net free area within the attic and whether your municipality requires a 1/150 or a 1/300 ratio of venting square feet to attic square feet. If you install vents with a square-foot opening of one, you'll need either 14 or seven exhaust vents and an equal square-foot amount of intake vents.
