Born's Landscape & Lawn Care

My mom is 82 years old, sold her house and moved out of state in August 2022. In April 2023, this company did service at the house and emailed her the invoice. She called right away and told them she no longer lived at the house. Joyce told her that they emailed the automatic contract renewal and she had to pay for that. After my mom told Joyce she no longer was the owner of the house, they came again on 06/30 to do another treatment. This time they knew that they no longer had access to the house because she was not the owner, but they treated the loan anyways. What company does that to an 82 year old woman? Now she owes 4 treatment??? (with no explanation from the company) and this ruthless people sent the invoice to collection. She tried multiple times to get in touch with the owner to get an explanation but no answer. Dishonest and illegal (since they knew that the house was not hers anymore). Disgusting Love how the owner is responding to positive comment and all others are promptly ignored.

Jared will be your main point of contact for a quote. He came out on the weekend, in the rain even, and we walked through everything I wanted done. He took no notes, and just confirmed that everything made sense. He told me he'd get back to me with a quote within a week. That week came and went, no quote. I had to finally reach out to Born's myself just to get my quote. Then I was sent the wrong quote (different address, different services). Replied to that, and eventually got the right quote, although it was still missing the level of detail Jared and I had discussed. I signed off on the quote and then heard... nothing. No estimate on when the work would be done. Finally, I again had to reach out and was told it would "within a couple weeks". Those couple weeks came and went, no word from anyone. Had to call and email again, and was finally told that they would be out within the next 2 weeks (they had to spray for weeds a week before the rest of the week). At this point, we're well into summer and I'm still waiting for my spring clean up. Finally, after yet another email asking when exactly they would come that they never replied to, a crew showed up at my house when I wasn't even there (since I wasn't told what day it would be). I came home after to find that I was given the "show up, throw mulch down, and leave" treatment. It was absolutely awful, and a sad excuse for a professional lawn care service. I walked around and took pictures to document what a poor job was done and had to send them to Born's with an email. Mulch all over the place, a bed completely forgotten about, edging that looked like it was done with a hand trowel instead of a shovel, trees ignored, weeds pulled and thrown on the lawn, etc. After my email, I never received a response, via email or phone call. All of a sudden, another crew shows up the following weekend (again, I was gone since no one told me), and this time everything was done right. Even after this, I never received a phone call, email, or anything. No recognition of the problem, no apology, nothing. Just an invoice a couple weeks later for the full amount. All in all, this was a situation of "first person who shows up for the estimate promises everything, then send the D team to do a horrible job hoping the customer doesn't complain, then fix it if they do", all the while with zero communication. Avoid.

Maybe I had too high expectations from the prior reviews so perhaps that made me expect a hgiher quality of service than I felt I got.

One of the problems seemed to be a lack of communication between the boss and his workers so the workers came without all the necessary equipment to handle a two-story home. In addition, one piece of euipment they did come with, did not work so they had to go back and get another piece to do the job. They did not do the gutters on the back of the house and debris from the roof was left in piles on the ground (other prior service providers have raked them, bagged them and removed them so I expected the debris to be cleaned up by them, instead I had to do it.) Overall, they did average work for average price . . . but to me the lack of communication and/or poor communication indicates a lack of professionalism. There were enough litle issues that disappointed me and I will not hire them again.

PS. On the positive side, the two young workers who showed up were friendly and nice -- but as a person who has supervised many workers, I would say that these young men were not well-supervised. If the company iinitiates more supervison. values communication and improves professionalism, they have an opportunity to get higher praise. Until then, it was just an average job with average service and I do not have enough satisfaction to re-employ them. I wish them the best as they mature and grow as a company.

Dealing with Born's Landscape and Lawn care has been a stellar experience. I do not have time, nor do I want to be bothered with doing my own lawn care. I work hard and want to relax and enjoy my yard when I am off. It's so nice to come home and all the sidewalks are edged, the lawn is cut perfectly. This fall/winter when Sandy hit, I had a tree partially uprooted by the winds. Born's came and took care of my tree, anchored it back into the ground, pruned it and it is now showing signs of budding - they saved my tree! When they did the fall clean up, the yard had not been cleaned like that for several years - all they had been doing was cutting grass and edging. My mother actually gave the clean-up to me as a Christmas gift and what a great gift it is!! When I came home and saw what was happening I was elated!! The beds were cleaned out, all the hostas were trimmed back, the ornamental grasses cut down...just everything!! They have done an amazing job and are not finished but will be back to grind out several stumps. They haven't even billed yet for the work because it is not a completed job - smart business and so impressive!! When Jared the owner does come back, I will be speaking to him about all my yard, flower beds, trees...outside maintenance. He has earned my respect as well as my long term business. This is how you gain customers for life!!

They did an excellent job. They were very thorough as well. I would give them a top rating. They covered every inch of the lawn and I have had good success. I now have one of the best looking lawns in the neighborhood. I plan to use them again in the Spring.
