But I will NEVER, EVER recommend this company nor use their services again after yesterday.
NO ONE CONTACTED the neighbor or me about the work to be done. They just showed up and CUT DOWN A 50-YEAR OLD CHESTNUT TREE, telling my husband "Oh it's a cherry tree the neighbor asked us to take down."
On MY PROPERTY?
SHE NEVER ASKED YOU TO CUT THAT TREE AND NEITHER DID WE.
I was available by phone as was the neighbor.
In the intervening SIX months... the smaller trees, including an invasive wisteria, were trimmed by hand by another company TO SAVE THE CHESTNUT TREE! ! !
Now, your boneheads with saws and too much adrenaline smiled and took the neighborhood's mango colored flowering chestnut tree to the ground.
It's a live 50-year old CHESTNUT, NOT A CHERRY! Seriously? A cherry?
Yes, I'm a little angry. This comes after crying for a few hours.
Do NOT return to Gardenview in Kent, Ohio unless you come bearing a new tree.
UPDATE: I am not changing my review, but I will add that Tom Mueller called. At first he said his crew absolutely said it was a wild cherry. Does a wild cherry have 6 inch mango/salmon colored flowers? He had to admit, it does not. It was a chestnut. On the question of "Someone at your house told us to go ahead." I love that you were asking at my house about a tree that supposedly was being paid for by the neighbors. And, much as I love him, my husband wouldn't know.
I do respect the offer, however, of a substitute CHESTNUT tree, albeit much smaller than a 50 year old one. Stay tuned. When it shows up, I'll revise the review. Thank you for the call, however.
Our yard had been invaded by the hated emerald ash borer. As a result of the infestation we had a stand of about 12 mature ash trees that were dead or dying. The trees had to come out before they fell on other healthy trees, our decorative fence, ourhouse, our pets or our neighbors. I had contemplated cutting them down myself but reason won out and I decided to hire the job out to professionals. I had researched on Angie?s list and received a few quotes from highly rated and highly priced companies. On my regular commute the University of Akron, I passed by the equipment of Mueller Tree Service, located at 220 E Mill St. in Akron, a few times a week, and then recently I saw them in my neighborhood taking out many large trees. After a short conversation I called and received a prompt quote the next day. The price was fair and the owner very attentive of our concerns.
Our back yard is/was heavy wooded, and we wanted to keep as many healthy, non-ash trees as possible. The yard was fenced and did not have a gate wide enough to fit the bucket lift and the distance to get there meant the lawn would suffer. Mueller offered to remove and replace the fence sections, protect the lawn and the healthy trees. This was at no additional cost, in comparison to others who offered to double the price to achieve the same level of service.
The day of tree removal the arrived promptly at 8:00, with a large crew, they removed the fence and laid down a plywood path and then decided that because the ground was soft and the terrain was relatively steep that they would remove the trees by climbing the trees and cutting them and then hauling out the cut wood by hand. It was impressive to watch, they worked quickly and with precision, the selected the trees, supported them with rope to other trees, and through 4 hours removed all of the trees, even with a brisk wind.
When finished the crew cleaned up, replaced the fence and checked to make sure we were satisfied with the work. Overall this group did an excellent job and I highly recommend them.
