Choosing a contractor was much more difficult than learning about roofing. I think I interviewed nine. My problems with them included use of inferior materials or techniques, a contract that relieved the contractor from bearing responsibility for his work, and an attempt to defraud my homeowner's insurance carrier One roofer was great except for the fact that they cost $4,000 to $6,000 more than any other.
Haralson showed up on time, on the dot. Work continued uninterrupted until it was complete. The workers were polite. They were trained, in part, by Certainteed, enabling Haralson to sell me Certainteed's most comprehensive warranty. I have found that Certainteed is serious about that warranty, so I have confidence in Haralson's competence.
Haralson usually works in Akron. I am in Medina, and Haralson became a registered contractor here just to work on my roof.
Without my asking for one, Haralson sent me a Waiver of Lien document.
Haralson's contract was just right: simple and complete.
Installation was complicated by my request for ridge vents and edge vents. The materials I chose were better than standard quality.
Haralson's price was fair and reasonable.
The roof looks beautiful.
The knowledge I acquired ensured that I bought exactly what I needed. My research led me to a fine, professional roofer. I think that a strong indicator of quality is that fact that father and son have their name on their work. If I had it to do all over again, I would keep my life simple and easy by calling Haralson.
Update, 11/27/13
Had a concern today, called Haralson about noon. Not 30 minutes later Gary Haralson was here. He answered my questions and resolved my concern. I am more than satisfied.
I signed a contract with Haralson Roofing in December 2010, but by that time the weather was getting bad so the roof didn't get installed until Spring. Once March/April rolled around, they started calling me regularly to give me schedule updates and let me know when they could start working. It was a very rainy spring so the roof work didn't get started until early May, but they regularly updated me while we all waited for the rain to stop. It took them about a day and a half from start to finish and I was happy throughout the process. They cleaned up at the end of the first day and once they were finished, I did not see any damage to the deck or any surrounding landscaping. They used color matching trim pieces and vent stacks, so the whole thing had a nice seamless look. They also used 6 nails per shingle instead of 4 since my house is in a wind corridor.
It's been about 5 months and I have not had any problems with the roof. I'm very happy with it and would definitely recommend Haralson Roofing and use them for future work.
