Heating and Air Conditioning Service
The owner (Dave Cheatham) of the company performed the service. He found that the furnace blower motor was defective. He said it would cost $400 to replace the motor, which he had in his shop. I agreed to the repair (which was not in writing). He returned and repaired the furnace. He also checked the furnace for fuel efficiency by checking for carbon monoxide (CO) in the exhaust pipe going to the flue and indicated that my furnace should soon be replaced since it was more than 20 years old. I told him that my wife and I were planning to have the furnace replaced during the summer, but since the CO emissions could be a hazard that we would go forward with replacing the furnace. He said he could replace the furnace on Monday with an 80,000 BTU Carrier furnace and humidifier with a 93% efficiency rating at a cost of $3200 and he would give me credit of $225 for the replaced blower motor on the old furnace. |A 2-man crew arrived on Monday morning with the new furnace and installed it with modifications to the old plenum ducting. They also installed an additional duct and heating vent to the kitchen as part of my original request. When the owner of the company returned to check the work, there were two issues that I found that needed to be corrected? The old thermostat was replaced with a non-programmable unit and we needed a programmable thermostat, and we also needed the heat vent for the basement re-installed as his crew removed the old vent. Mr. Cheatham promptly had those items installed. The furnace installation included a ten year warranty on parts and a five year warranty on labor. |
