I have to admit, when we were trying to coordinate a date for the job, there were times I got a little frustrated at how difficult it was to get in touch with Dan.  But, once he and his crew came out to do the job, I had a new understanding and appreciation for why he can be such a hard man to reach.  See, he doesn't sub these jobs out.  He's on the roof working just as hard as his crew.  I was also quite impressed with how well they all seemed to work together.  They each knew their jobs, and Dan didn't have to constantly direct them on what to do or where to go.  If one of the guys saw someone else was doing a job that required an extra set of hands, they took the initiative and helped each other out without so much as a word.
No project ever goes as smoothly as it's supposed to.  Like anyone else would, someone on Dan's crew encountered one or two problems that caused them to spend a little more time to make sure it was done right.  What impressed me was, despite their initiative, they knew when it was time to call Dan over to make sure they were doing it right.  No short cuts.  Another worker on another crew could have just as easily come up with a shoddy, half-hearted solution to the problem when their boss wasn't looking.  Not these guys.
Also, his quote was very reasonable.
I would gladly do business with Beam Construction again, and I would gladly recommend him to anyone.  If you go with him, just be patient if it takes a while to get a hold of him.  The results and the price will be worth the wait.

Overall, the job went very well. It was done professionally and Dan Beam is very knowledgeable. It took longer than expected but that was because it was such a large job plus there were weather delays. They put in some long hours to try to get it done in as few days as possible. It was an eight day job, including a 12 hour day on Saturday. They cleaned up each night when done and the workers were all very polite.

The job went well, and the results were outstanding. Dan Beam and company did an outstanding job in very little time. It is very obvious that Dan Beam knows his roofing from both technical and aesthetic aspects. Because there is only one crew, Dan spends a lot of time on the roof with his crew making sure that the work is being done correctly.

Dan Beam is a perfectionist - which is good and bad. They came promptly, worked hard, and did a fantastic job on our new roof, with two exceptions. They lost a support for one or our lightning rods, and we later discovered that a flashing between 2 skylights, set one immediately above the other, leaked during a hard rain. They had flashed all around the double unit, but not between the two. He made many phone calls trying to find a replacement rod support, but couldn't find the exact match. So, it dangled off the end of the roof for months. The difficult flashing he had to do himself, not assign to one of his workers. Unfortunately, once they had moved on to another job, finding time to come back and look at it was difficult. I know he was giving other roofs the same super job he gave ours, but my patience wore thin after 2 months of having a tarp over my skylights. A strongly worded letter got him back, got a custom made rod stand welded up, and 3 hours spent doing an incredible job on that flashing.

THE FIRST TIME WE HAD OUR ROOF REPAIRED BY ANOTHER COMPANY, BUT IT DID NOT STOP LEAKING. DAN DISCOVERED THAT THE WOOD UNDERNEATH THE ROOF WAS ROTTED OUT, SO HE INSTALLED A COMPLETELY NEW ROOF AND THIS WAS REALLY WATERTIGHT PLUS ADDED INSULATION THAT HAS MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN OUR HEATING BILLS (WE HAVE A CALIFORNIA-STYLE ROOF WITH NO ATTIC SPACE. WE HAD ENDURED LEAKS FOR 7 YEARS!). DAN HAS DONE WORK ON 2 OTHER HOUSES ON OUR STREET AND THEY HAVE BEEN VERY SATISFIED WITH HIS WORK. THE ONLY DIFFICULTY IS THAT HE IS HARD TO CONTACT. HE DID NOT RETURN MY CALLS SEVERAL TIMES AND HE GOT BUSY AND DID NOT COME WHEN HE SAID HE WOULD. I WOULD STILL RECOMMEND HIM BECAUSE HE IS VERY KNOWLEDGABLE AND ONCE HE STARTS A JOB, HE FINISHES IT.
