The staff was knowledgable and pretty easy to work with. They listened to our needs and concerns and answered with more fact than opinion which was appreciated. I had been to several stores and they earned our business.

We bought a wood burning stove insert from FireGlow along with all the equipment they said was necessary for proper installation. We used their contractor to install the wood burning stove and chimney liner. The next year, when we had our chimney swept, we were informed that the installation was poorly done. Our chimney sweep told us that the liner pipe did not extend to the top of the chimney and that there was no top plate that connected the pipe to the top of the chimney. He also told us that the liner pipe was not attached to the wood burning stove. We called FireGlow and explained the situation to them. FireGlow responded that these circumstances were not a problem, but that they would have their installation contractor come out and recheck the installation. When they came they checked it out and told us that the installation was fine, that the pipe did not need to extend to the top of the chimney and that there was really no need for a top plate, which FireGlow had never sold us anyway. They also insisted that there was no reason for the pipe to be securely attached to the stove. Over the years we have always had some problems with the way the fire burned, but we really were not aware as we had never had a fireplace before. We also believed the reassurances we had gotten from the installer. Recently, I happened to be making a fire when our contractor was here. She told me that the fire was not drawning enough oxygen and that I should have the stove checked out which we did. I had representatives from two fireplace installers come out and examine the stove. They both informed me that the liner was improperly installed. They also said that the pipe did not go the whole length of the chimney. In addition, there was no top plate to connect it to the top of the chimney and that the stove should have been screwed to the pipe. The liner pipe was of a very poor quality and that given all of this, there was a good possiblity of a chimney fire due to the shoddy and substandard installation. Needless to say we had the chimney properly relined at a cost of $1,800, money, we should not have spent if the job had been done correctly by FireGlow and their reccommended contractor.

"At the time of installation Fire Glow did what is called Direct connects into existing chimneys. These were considered good approved connections. There are better installations that can be done but involve additional or more expensive material. Fire Glow does not do masonry work so we sell liner kits that can be simply installed to the insert without modifying the chimney. Today this type of connection is only allowed if the chimney is inside the warm house and is no bigger then 2.5 times the area of the stove breach. Because of these changes to the code we now sell a full liner system with a top plate to terminate the liner. Fire Glows liner is still relatively inexpensive as compared to what a chimney service company might sell and install, this is due to the fact we are not fixing a chimney but providing the correct size flue for the insert. The $1800 liner that you chose to purchase should improve your overall performance of your insert and I hope gives you better piece of mind. If we had sold full lining systems at the time you purchased your insert then most of this cost would still have to have been paid. Fire Glow is sorry that you had to go through the issues associated with a direct connect liner and would like to thank you for the detailed account of what happened. Due in part to feed back like yours we now try to do all inserts with full lines. It cost more up front but there are less issues down the road."

They went above and beyond what I expected of them. I thought that they were only distributors but I found out that they did installations. They are a little high end on the price.

We paid the fee to FireGlow to have one of thier independent contract installers come out and make the estimate. After about 45 days past and nobody had shown up at our house even though we made a few calls a week or two beforehand to adive them of this. We called FireGlow to let them know the situation. After another 2 weeks past someone came and took all the measurements and said they would let FireGlow know thier findings and someone from FireGlow would be in contact us within 48 hours to let us know the estimated total price for the install. They would also be the installer on the job. Well 30 days past and FireGlow never got back to us with the total cost. To this date, we have not heard anything back. Besides making money off people from install deposits, thier pricing on fireplaces isn't the best or even the average on the market. After shopping around for the same model fireplace on the internet and several retail outlets in the tri state area, we found we could save $500-$700 at other places for the complete package. We alo found out that the model fireplace we were going to purchase had a well know defect that FireGlow never informed us about even though the defect was covered under MFG's warrenty. This information and fix was explained clearly on the internet, and was provded to us by a another Fire Place distributor.
