Do use EJ if you have the opportunity. He did a very thorough estimate, allowing us to make adjustments piecemeal to get the project within our budget. He began work promptly after we closed on the apartment, and was there every day, supervising and also working, until the job was complete (which took less than 3 months for a complete remodel).
Estimates were updated each time a change was made in the plan, so there were no unhappy surprises and we came in right on budget. When Home Depot tried to rip us off on the installation of our kitchen, EJ came in with a reasonable price and did a great job, including building out supports that Home Depot didn't include, and making it all work.
The crew was always professional, pleasant and considerate, especially important since we moved in before the work was all completed. EJ made sure the co-ops rules were followed. Whenever an obstacle arose, as they will, his approach was resourceful and optimistic, coming up with solutions.
I've remodeled houses and apartments before, and never would have thought that a project like this, in a Manhattan co-op could have gone so smoothly.

We were extremely pleased. E Jay came, gave us an estimate, and arrived exactly when he said he would to do the repairs. He purchased all the supplies we needed (other handyman had told us we would have to do that), and was very neat while he worked, taking care not to mess up the floors or walls. We had several handymen come in who told us that some of these jobs were too difficult or time-consuming for them to do, but E Jay had a very can-do attitude and did it all in half a day. We would certainly use him again and recommend him highly. His estimate was also more reasonable than others we got.
