First of all, this was our 2nd liner with this company. The main reason I decided to hire them again is that Paul promised me he could get the liner installed within a much faster time frame than a competing company. Plus, the installation included opening the pool, which involves adding the chemicals and installing the pump, filter, and ladder.
Unfortunately, when we heard nothing from them after the promised date we had to keep calling them to find out when the liner was coming in, and as far as I remember it was at least 2 weeks later than what he told me it would be. So we waited very patiently, and then when we went to turn on the pump after it was all installed, we discovered that there was a problem with the pump. It was shooting out water all over the place. So I called Paul at Caribbean and told him what was happening. This was on a very hot Saturday, and my children wanted to go swimming, of course. He said he couldn't get anyone there until Monday and he then named the price which included a $50 service fee along with the cost to install it. Why? Because they needed to make an exrtra trip! But if they had taken the time to test the pump when they did the installation, they could have seen there was a problem. But no, they didn't tell us anything. So I was pretty annoyed that they would charge me a service fee, even thogh we had just spent almost $2,000 with them, and even though they SHOULD have noticed something was wrong. We could have let our children swim in the pool, but we suspected that they hadn't even put the chemicals in which they should have along with the installation. So we were anxious to add chemicals which requires that the pump be working. (And if they had added the chemicals, why hadn't they run the pump? If they had even TESTED the pump they would have known that there was a problem.)
Well, I asked Paul If he had the needed part. For whatever reason, he didn't know and couldn't just look it up on his computer on the spot. He told me he'd call me back by the end of the day. So in the meanwhile, I called another pool company. They told me almost immediately that they had the part. It turns out the part was incredibly cheap, and they said it would be very easy to install ourselves, which is what we did.
Around 5 hours later that day, Paul called me back with the great news that he had the part. So I told him we didn't need it anymore, that we already got the part and installed it ourselves. At this point, Paul became very irrate, saying that he was and quot;hurt.and quot; He was so upset that he took all that time to troubleshoot the problem and to look up the part and that we took advantage of him. Yes, he did troubleshoot the problem, but that was his job since his company did the opening of our pool and should have seen that there was a problem to begin with! The fact that he told us which part we needed over the phone doesn't make him a hero. Whereas I expected him to be happy that we fixed the problem he was downright jealous and angry and highly unprofessional. He was so upset that I didn't call him to tell him we didn't need the part anymore. After about 10 minutes of his complaining and whining (no exaggeration), I finally apologized to him and told him he was absolutely right. We SHOULD have called him to let him know. I asked him to please forgive me and that I didn't mean to upset him. We were not being mailicious, we were just trying to get our pool up and running so our 10 children could go swimming. Yes, we have 10 children, and he seems to think we have all the time in the world to call him so HE wouldn't have to take ALL that time out of his day to look up a part!
Well, the biggest surprise came a few weeks later when he sent us a bill for $211 for the installation of the ladder. Yes, he was charging us for something that was supposed to be included in the installation. Why? I am sure it was because of spite. Yes, we did need a ladder cup which was missing, and when the installers asked me if I wanted them to bring one with them the next day when they would be coming back to finish the installation, I said yes. So they installed the ladder with 2 new ladder cups (basically heavy duty plastic fittings for the ladder to be screwed into the pool deck). Do I expect to be charged for the ladder cups? Absolutely! When Paul sends me a proper bill for those I will be more than happy to pay for them. But for him to charge me for the installation was definitely out of anger because we dared to buy and install our own part.
.Unfortunately, the story doesn't end there. Since that erroneous bill, he has attempted to scare us into paying this bill by getting a lawyer friend (presumably) to write a letter to us threatening that he will take us to court. I made several attempts at contacting this lawyer over the course of 3 months so I could try to work this out. The lawyer never called me back, even after I left several messages on his answering machine and through his secretary. So we decided to just ignore it. After that, we received a few more bills from Caribbean Pools. The most recent one said they will void the warranty on the liner if we do not pay within 10 days. First of all, I don't think they could do that anyway, but second of all, we did pay for the liner. This latest threat just goes to show you the depths to which this man will go to get what he wants.
I have no complaints about the liner itself, nor do I have any complaints about the installers themselves. They were courteous and professional. It is Paul who I have all of my complaints against. He is possibly the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. His lack of integrity is astounding. My advice is to obviously steer clear of Caribbean Pools.

Response from CARIBBEAN POOLS INC
"This person is bitter, because they refused to pay a service invoice we sent them, so they are fabricating lies about our company. Plain and Simple. We provided a service, and they refused to pay for it."
