Chuck came out twice. The first time he diagnosed that the receiver was not working. He advised that I should go ahead and replace the fan. I decided to do this because I was unsure of the age of the fan. I was not charged at that time. The second time, he installed the new fan and took apart the old fan so I could more easily dispose of it.
When I first called, they were scheduling weeks out. I wish it could have been sooner, but this was not an emergency call, and the fact that they are this busy is a good sign. When I scheduled the second visit, to actually install the fan, the wait was not as long, about a week, which was fine, because I ordered the new fan from amazon and we needed to make sure it would arrive by then.
The day they were scheduled to install the fan, they called about half an hour before the scheduled time and needed to reschedule because the previous job was taking too long. At least they keep in touch.
Chuck who did the work, and Melissa who does the scheduling and takes/places calls, are both very personable.
I would definitely use them again.
"[Member Name Removed], I am just seeing this comment now or I would have responded sooner. I would appreciate it if you would please remove your comment as we have never done work for you. You referred to hiring Kevin. We do not employ a Kevin. Chuck McCauley is the owner and also a licensed electrician. He has a brother Kevin, but we have no business connection to him. Thanks, Melissa McCauley"
I had initially written a positive review because all of his work had passed inspection and things seemed to function properly, although the work looked sloppy to me. However, a few months later a friend of mine looked at the work and told me it wasn't safe. So I had someone else check it out and they ended up ripping out most of the prior work and doing it over. The exterior junction boxes were not water tight and actually had water in them when we took the covers off! None of the conduit had been glued. Interior grade wire was used for external runs between two boxes, and instead of running it through conduit, he had just wrapped the wires with putty. Most obvious and dangerous thing was that he didn't use a GFI breaker. I have no idea how this could have passed inspection; obviously the "inspector" didn't really look at anything (reminds me of how Enron's accountants were also their auditors!).
After discovering all of this, I called him to ask for 1/2 of my money back, which I thought was more than fair. He told me there was no way he could do that and his solution was to come and fix it himself by cauking all of the boxes with silicone (!). He also told me he had done about 30 pools this summer and had no complaints. (I shudder to think about 30 pools that are just waiting to electrocute some kid who happens to touch the wrong box!) Finally he agreed to return $200 to me, saying that was all he could afford.
DON'T USE THIS GUY!!! DANGER!!!
Chuck is very professional and in my opinion, very fair and honest. I discovered him from an ad in the TImes Union last year while looking to do some minor electrical work. I was very happy with the first experience, so I decided to give him a call once again.
The current job entailed running a new conduit for a new 50 amp service over 100 feet out to the new pool pump. I had received a quote from a local electrician who "specializes" in pool electrical, but new Chuck's plan for how to organize and lay out the new electrical service seemed much more professional and his price was great. I later found out that Chuck had loads of experience doing pool electrical work.
The job went great and the workmanship is very professional. Chuck McCauley will continue to be my go to guy for electrical work and I highly recommend him.
"Thanks member, the best you and your wife. We truley apreeciate your buisiness"
