Our living room floor was sagging beneath the weight of a central 2-story fireplace and it was obvious we needed to remedy the problem. Dan McDermott (Level Construction) was recommended to us and we gave him a try. Very glad we did. He came up with a great solution -- build a freestanding "bookcase" in the basement below the fireplace and encapsulate 4 lolly columns and jack up the living floor by an inch or two. It worked great! Now we have more storage and the problem in the living room is addressed. We were so pleased with his attention to detail and his polite personality, we decided to have him patch and paint the living room ceiling. Once again, Dan did an amazing job. Then we asked him to give us a price on bringing our deck up to code (adding ledger boards, joist hangers, and posts set on concrete footings. The price was reasonable and he started right away. He did a great job. My husband was tickled pink to see it being done with as much care as he would do it. Overall, Dan was at our home almost every day for about a month and he was polite to a fault, always did what he said he would do (often he did more!) and communicated with us whenever he -- or we -- had a question. What a pleasure it's been to have a contractor do great work for a fair price! We would recommend Dan to anyone in Sullivan County who needs any kind work done on their home, although I must admit I was tempted to keep him all to ourselves!
Description of Work: Dan McDermott of Level Construction did the following projects for us: 1) Raised and leveled our living room floor that was sagging because of the weight of our central, 2-story fireplace. We discussed the options at length (pros and cons) and he recommended 4 lolly columns "lift" the floor joists from below in our basement. He slowly raised the level of the floor, and then framed around the lolly columns and installed drywall and created 2-sided bookshelves for us. He added crown molding, base molding, patched the ceiling and painted. Looked great! 2) Patched our drywall ceiling in the living room and dining room (cracks were forming between the sheets of drywall). He did a fantastic job and it looked absolutely perfect when he was done. 3) Whoever built the wraparound deck on our house had 'cut some corners' (probably to save money) and attached it to the house without ledger boards or joist hangers. Dan gave us a price to correct the problem, and do it the right way, plus he set the deck posts on concrete footings, again, the way it is supposed to be done. Dan did a marvelous job and now we know our deck is safe, secure, and up to code.
