We are very happy with the end result of the kitchen remodel project we engaged EvolveD to do for us!

Buyer beware. Inaccurate designs. Unprofessional, unethical behavior. Chronic delays. Impolite and uncollaborative. Avoid at all costs. I do not like posting negative reviews, but I hope this information will spare the next person the cost and frustration we endured working with Mari Mulshenock from EvolveD. We went into contract at the beginning of 2022. Mari insisted on full payment upfront rather than the industry standard of a first 50% (one of several red flags we should have heeded.) From that moment on, working with Mari was an absolute nightmare. We paid her $7000 to draft new plans for 2 levels of home renovation. It took her 6 MONTHS to complete the project which consisted of a first design draft and two revisions; something that should have taken 2 months at best. Many of our emails went unanswered and our follow ups were answered with flimsy excuses or rude replies. Our requests for firm delivery dates were ignored. On our two revision calls, when we looked to her for collaborative input, she seemed annoyed and acted as if questions were stupid. When we moved on to bidding materials, we noticed in the bid that many items were marked up in price on top of the retail price (for basic items like faucets you can find at Home Depot). All designers get a 20% discount on retail. So Mari was double-dipping. I find that to be unethical. Now that we are working with a contractor and a new designer, we are finding that many of the measurements in her designs were inaccurate. It is absolutely infuriating. I want to note that I have worked in a creative services business for over 15 years. Both my brother and several good friends are architects and designers. So I understand the best practices in design business. If I behaved the way Mari did, I would lose all of my clients. Because of her delays, supply costs increased and we lost an entire summer when we could have been enjoying our house. The one positive in all of this experience was the help we received from the junior designer at EvolveD, Hannah Shafer. Hannah was a delight to work and communicate with, but by the time she stepped in we were so disgusted by the behavior we experienced with Mari that we could not justify spending another dollar with EvolveD.
Response from

"Negative reviews are always difficult and upsetting but sometimes there is a learning experience that comes out of a job. In this case, client attitudes and expectations became a red flag from the start. The contractor I had with me to first meet the clients, see the scope, and estimate the job in December of 2021, was turned down by the homeowners as pricing was too high for them. Against my better judgment, I continued the process, as I always think it is good in everybody. After 35 years in this business, I can say honestly, that these clients were among the most difficult and their expectations far exceeded their budget. To set the record straight, the homeowners agreed & signed a contract for $7,000.00, as a retainer, on 1/8/22 which included design, prints, estimation, travel charges, meetings with additional contractors, and one revision. The contract also stated that $2,000.00 of this money would be used towards the purchase of materials from EvolveD if the homeowner used EvolveD for materials, such as kitchen cabinets. After our initial meetings and design, the project was turned over to our Degreed designer, Hannah, to work on the project and keep in motion. This included Skype meetings, two more visitations to the home for measurement checks, multiple client revisions, multiple prints, and a meeting with the clients for in-house material selections, which was submitted to the homeowner on 6/10/22. This estimate included a $5,000.00 deduction from the contract toward materials. If there was a holdup it was in finding a contractor that would work within their scope and budget and was willing to travel to their location. After finally finding a contractor that would travel to their property and Hannah leaving multiple emails, this review was the final shocking response. I also wish to say that we are a small business that deals with plumbing supply houses and not a big box store. If we are given a 10-20% markup on what we purchase, I could not stay in business giving my discount to the client, nor did I agree to do so. We do not get the discounts that a big box store does, nor do box stores give me a discount. This unfortunate, strong, negative, unexpected review cost my 5-star rating to drop significantly. I just found out that they are also posting this on every site they can to try to damage my reputation. Since this was a paid lead by, I am hoping HomeAdvisor can step in here."

Mari is very thorough and caring about her job. She listens to what you want and makes changes if you need them. She has a great eye for design and she is just great. I had a good experience and love my renovations.

I was moving into a new condo and needed some work done prior to relocated. Mari was patient and great with working with me and getting pictures of some of my personal belongs to help with the remodel. They have great ideas and everything has come out fabulous. Mari has a lot of vision, thinks outside the box, a good eye for things, and very easy to work with.
