The project went very well from beginning to end. I went in to purchase new linoleum. Richie showed me various flooring options in addition to linoleum and explained the pros and cons of each product. I purchased interlocking tiles which are more durable than linoleum. Since my laundry room is an odd shape, I would have had a lot of wasted linoleum. The interlocking tiles were a more cost effective option. Richie and his team were very professional to work with from purchase through installation.

Richie and his crew were terrific. The price was great, they were on time, efficient, clean and not worried about my dog who I kept out of their way for the most part. I'd definitely use them again.

Richie was the lowest price and his business was also the closest to the apartment, which I thought might be advantageous considering the weather in New York this winter. Once we agreed on the price he scheduled the work for the next week, explaining to me that it would take three days to complete. Richie and his team showed up on time everyday including the last day in a snow storm. Richie provided a quality job in a timely manner with no issues, we are very pleased with the results.

Richie, the owner, was very professional in scheduling and completing the job. He said it would take 2 days and we could be back in the apartment in a couple of days. He returned my calls promptly and showed up on time for both work days. He and 3 employees worked quickly and expertly to sand the floors and apply the first coat of polyurethane the first day. That took about 4 hours. Richie even helped my husband disassemble our queen sized platform bed and move it to another room! The second day he and 1 employee came back to apply the second coat. They were done in approximately 1 hour. We left the house for 4 days leaving windows open.
When we returned the floors looked great. The water damage and the scratches had disappeared! We were very pleased.
The odor was very strong. It took about 2 weeks from the time the floors were completed for it to improve. A month or more to be gone. We had left for a few days for the floors to dry and to allow the strong vapors of the oil-based polyurethane to dissipate. I had mentioned to Richie that my husband had just recently developed asthma so I was obviously concerned about how long the strong odor would last. When the job was completed I told him that we would be gone for 4 days, thinking even better and longer than he had recommended initially. I also asked how long it would be before we could move our furniture back. He said we could get back in the apartment after that period of time but now told us the longer the better. As far as moving furniture back, he said approximately 2 weeks, saying we should probably lift the furniture. He answered my questions but did not offer any more information than he thought necessary. I was learning that Richie was a man of few words.
My only complaint would be that I wish Richie had been more forthcoming about some of the important details- how bad the odor would be and how long it would last and what to expect from the polyurethane finish. We have a 3 family home and the odor permeated the entire house. Towels were put behind doors in an attempt to keep the vapors out. Also, I was very disappointed when after more than 2 weeks we moved a piece of furniture back (it could not be lifted) and even though we used cardboard under the furniture to protect it, some scratches appeared. I thought that once the polyurethane hardened it wouldn't scratch so easily. Six months later, we still have to be careful with chairs etc..Small scratches have appeared. We put pads on the legs of our dining room chairs to protect the floor. Richie didn't inform us that this finish could scratch so easily even months after it was done.
That being said, our floors look gorgeous! I am still not sure if something is wrong with the finish or if that's just the way it is so we are being careful.

His personality changed once he started the job. The floors came out good, buth there was a lot of stain on my newly painted base boards. When I pointed this out to him he became very angry with me stated that this was discussed with my wife. He tried to correct the condition but did not do a good job. After I paid him, I asked for the key to my house back. He told me that the key was in the wash. 6 days later he returned the key.
Would think twice about using him

Richie was very professional in his services. He came by our house and gave us an estimate and recommended a place for us to buy the wood at a reasonable price. The 2nd floor install was finished in a day, while the sanding and staining of the stair case and 1st floor took 3 more days. Richie did a great job and we'd highly recommend his services in the future.

I called Richie's flooring services and received a call back within the same day and was able to schedule an appointment fairly quickly. Richie came out and assessed the damage and gave me an estimate of about $300 to fix the floors and recommended I give the floor a few more weeks to completely dried which I did. I have been trying to reach Richie now for 3 weeks so that we can move forward with the job I and I have not received a response yet. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and called and even filled out their form online to ensure I provided the proper contact information. The job is not big but I don't understand why a business owner would decline any business regardless of size. I have hardwood floors throughout out the entire house including the basement and could have been a potential customer going forward or even a referral.

I spoke with Richie about stripping and polyurethaning the floors in two rooms, about 450-500 sq. ft. in total. It was hard to find someone to do such a small job, but he was very comfortable with it. He sent over two men who worked quickly and efficiently. They did a fantastic job (the floors are beautiful and protected!) and were completely professional, prompt, quick and efficient. Rich was very easy to work with, accommodated my schedule, and got the job done quickly. I plan to hire them again to do more work as we can move the furniture around in some other rooms. They are top notch!

Punctual, professional, reasonably priced, and best of all, Richie did a fantastic job of refinishing our oak floors. He provided an estimate after a brief visit to the space. Subsequently, the job was done in a very neat, timely fashion on budget. The finished product he and his crew provided is stellar--I have yet to find one flaw in their work.
I highly recommend Richie to anyone who is looking to refinish their wooden floors.

I just purchased a co-op that had wall to wall carpeting throughout the second floor as well as the staircase. I contacted Richie's Floor Service after reading some other reviews. I got an immediate response from Richie. I explained what I needed to have done (carpeting removed, unfinished oak floors to be finished) and was given an estimate over the phone. Richie even came by the place to assess the work to be done. Because I live in a co-op, I needed to provide the management with proof of license and insurance, which I promptly received. A date was scheduled and in one day, all the carpeting was removed, the floors were all sanded, two steps were rebuilt because they were not of the same material as the others, and a coat of polyurethane was applied to the floors and stairs. A second coat was applied the second day. The workman were neat and I was very pleased with the beautifully treated floors that had been hidden for years underneath the carpeting!

The price and quality was initially good but the guy nailed through piping in my floor. This caused a flooding in my house. After this, they basically lost contact with me. He nailed through some piping which lead to water flowing out from the back room to the back of my house. The new floor he put in had to be completely removed and there was also water damaged on the walls of that room. It was a mess and it's still not fixed. I had to go through my insurance to have everything repaired. My experience was not good.
Response from RICHIE'S FLOOR SERVICE

"This client called me on a Sunday about a leak in his home, where I had worked a weeks prior. I responded immediately. I arrived at his home Monday morning cut the floor open and had a plumber repair the problem, which I promptly paid approx $500.00. The pipes in the floor were not maked or protected by the original plumber or contractor so nailing a floor down was a bit tricky. At this point he told me of his concerns with the sheet rock by the window and the side door. This condition was there before I began this job, but since I came there to rectify the problem, I took down the sheet rock and insulation to find that the walls were wet from the 2 X 4s under the window behind the baseboard heat. I explained the situation to his mother, and asked her to keep an eye on this spot when it rains. It clearly had nothing to due with the pipe condition. I called the client and his wife several times after to see if it stayed dry, but they never returned my calls. I also suggested to him that if this repair became too costly we should possibly go through my insurance company. We never heard from him again?? I felt that we gave him a good price, did quality work, responded immediately, were punctual and professional."

His was the 4th estimate and the first to correctly identify the type of wood as Northern red oak and added that it was no longer available (extinct). The other 3 called it white oak and said that they could match it closely but not exactly. We selected him because of this. He said he would be on a different location and could get to us the following week. Two days later he called to say that the job he was on was to replace an old floor with something new. The old floor happened to be Northern red oak and he had carefully removed it so it could be salvaged.
He used it in our damaged area and it matches perfectly

The refinishing required two stages so furniture could be moved to opposite rooms, The second refinishing crew used mat instead of semigloss as in the first two rooms. When he was notified of the problem he sent in the crew to redo 2 coats plus the sealer coat giving us 6 coats in this room, a very busy family room

His work was superb, attitude friendly and professional..

Richie came to give me an estimate and I wasn't there my contractor friend was there Richie looked around and called me with a price. I had asked richie to come back on another date so as I could meet him and discuss the job at hand. Richie came and after meeting with him I gave the job to him they arrived 5 min earlier then richie had said, when him and his men came in the look on Richie's face was not good he was not happy that there was a large amount of carpet padding still stuck on my l/r and d/r floorthey immeditially scraped all the padding off and then on their handsand knees removed all the screws and staples from the entrance area that was there after I removed plywood and ceramic tile richie and his men were very professional and started sanding and edging alltthe floors in my house the following my wife and I wanted to see stain samples and Richie provided 4 different stains and actually put it on the sanded floor. We then picked a stain and left the rest to them . When we finally saw the finished product we were amazed at the way the floors looked I decided that the floor was lacking that real wet look and called Richie and he said no problem, he came and put a clear gloss coat and man what a difference we just purchased a handyman special and richie brought our 1959 house into the present era we can never thank him enough we would recommend richies floor service to anyone and everyone we know who is looking to refinish their floors.

In the spring, we had the interior of our house painted and decided to refinish the floors afterward. We asked our painter if he knew a good floor refinisher and he recommended Richie's service. Richie came to our house and gave us a price of $1500 for the living room, dinning room, kitchen and hall, to be scrapped, sanded and polyurethaned with a natural, low luster finish. We asked Richie for referrals but he refused, saying he did not give out the names of his customers. He did invite us to come to his house and see his floors which we did and saw that his floors looked good although wearing in some places (the job was 20 years old). We agreed to have him do our work. His men arrived on the day and time scheduled for each day. The men were careful to clean up after each scrapping and sanding. The problems came up in the finish, namely: instead of a low luster, we got a hard, high shine; in a number of places we can see the brush marks from the sanding; in some places the finish looks grainy and pebbly and in one spot the polyurethane pooled around the legs of a heavy piece of furniture and now stands out as a flaw since the piece was moved back to its original place. We didn't tell Richie about our dissatisfaction with the end product because it was done, finished. Even if he had agreed to redo the job, we couldn't bear to go through another scrapping and sanding.
Response from RICHIE'S FLOOR SERVICE

"I am very sorry for your dissatisfaction. I wish you would have personally made me aware of your issues. I thought you were satisfied after we applied the 4th coat free of charge. If I'm not made aware there is not much I can do. We pride ourselves on always leaving our customers happy."

Three gentlemen came and did work. All three knew what they were doing and each of the men all had a job. One sanded the corners another filled holes and the main man sanded the floors with the big machine. Work was done in 4 hours then came next day to put another coat of the poly.

I am exclusively a DIYer. I bought this house back in September and have been slowly fixing it up. I intended to do the floor as well, but came to the realization that while I could probably do a good job on the floor, it was going to take me forever and involve a considerable cost in materials. I decided I would hire someone to do this. I went to my local flooring supplier and asked for a recommendation, They gave me four business cards and put an asterisk next to Richie's, as they said he was particularly familiar with face-nailed floors. I called Richie that evening and set up an estimate for the following morning (a Wednesday) at 8:30 am. He arrived at 8:30 on the nose, gave me an estimate that I thought was very fair, told me the work would take three days, and that he could start the next day (Thursday). I decided not to seek any more estimates and called him to start the job on Thursday at 8:30 am. Richie and his crew arrived Thursday at 8:30 sharp and began the repair and initial sanding. I left him a key and returned home from work to a repaired, sanded, and sealed floor. They applied the polyurethane in two coats on Friday and the following Monday, taking only about 30 minutes each day. In all, the work was completed in exactly the time agreed upon and did not vary from the estimate by even a penny. The floor looks lightyears better than I thought was possible. There are some small issues I could nitpick with the repairs (there are a couple of minor loose boards for example, and one or two that probably should have been replaced but weren't) but the finish is perfect. I have floors on the second level of the home that need to be refinished and will certainly be calling Richie again.

Setting up an appointment was very easy and they came when promised. They were very patient in dealing with the management company of my building with regards to the insurance that the co-op requires. They did a great job of sanding and refinishing the floors. I highly recommend them.
