They did the work than later said they would not guarantee it. I spent $500. It still leaked. They looked at it again and said they would have to come back in April and sent me a quote for another $1000.
Response from CHIMNEY DOCTORS
"Originally we told you there was an option to do counter flashing or a flash seal. We had told you the counter flashing wouldn't be guaranteed but the flash seal would. You did not want to pay the price of the flash seal so you had us do the counter flashing. We had told you that the counter flashing wouldn't guarantee fixing it. So then we had come back again for free after this since the counter flashing didn't end up working and told you if you did the flash seal it was a guarantee but you didn't want to pay for it. You had 3 other roofing companies try to fix this before us and we know you're frustrated but we told you what would fix it but you didn't like the price. We would like to resolve this issue for you please contact us."

These guys are great! Zack & Nick showed up about 8:30 am, and spent all day removing all the tiles, and installing the new liner. It was a 90 degree day, yet they busted their humps all day. Very friendly, explaining everything they did, and cleaned up everything when they were done. Total professionals, Tom's crew is fantastic!! They will be back in the spring to fix the crown, and install a custom cap.

Tom and his crew  (zack and E Jay) arrived in time , had all the supplies. ready and started  the job.
Once they were up there realized that there was extra work to be done replacing all the wood at top since it was rotten under the existing chase top. They replaced ,took pictures of the whole process as a prove and put the new stainless steal chase top based on what I wanted , the respected my opinion and answered my questions.
The chimney sweep was good the guys inside the house were careful and didn't leave any traces after they finish, great clean up and gave me tips on the upkeep since is a different system that the average chimney.
I am very happy with their service.

SCAMMER ALERT! We paid for cleaning, inspection and report, with pictures and video, for two chimneys. We were told that both were about to fall apart. Second and third opinions from other companies on both were MUCH less dire and the others gave repair estimates at half or less than the Chimney Doctors' price. Others also charged FAR LESS for their inspections. Next, no pictures or video were delivered. They claimed that I said I didn't want pictures. NEVER in my life have I said, "No I don't want documentation." They also claimed that a half sheet of scribble was a report. Next, the price agreed upon in advance was $40 less than the bill. Also, they arrived late, and, after many attempts at contacting them, they refused to make a refund to remedy the situation. Maybe this company was good in the past, but it isn't anymore.
Response from CHIMNEY DOCTORS
"We had spoke with the customer several times and the customer was demanding reports with this inspection. This was not a realty transaction, the customer owned the property. The chimney tech videoed the chimney to show the customer the defects more closely. He explained to the customer there was an additional fee to video. There were two chimneys that were inspected and there was a discount off of the second chimney. We are certified by the CSIA and follow all codes. We are an A review with a total of 91 reviews on Angie's List. We take great pride in our letter grade. We won service awards in 2012 through 2016. We also have many inspectors and relators that highly recommend us."

Similar to "mike" the prospective home owner below i too had an inspection and when i could afford to have it cleaned i was told that the previous quote (4 months old by this time) would only be honored if i had a level 2 inspection. I too was told that my furnace wasn't sealed and that i would need to replace the flue. However, I always get three or four different bids and estimates. First, the repair cost for the cap and chimney was astronomical compared to the other companies. I hired Bill Miles masonry to repair my chimney at a significant reduced rate. So i didnt hire them to complete the work on the inspection. Second, The flue and basement exhaust. Was told the lining was going the wrong way, needed a new flue, and seal the exhaust from hot water heater. Again, had two companies come and look at the same project. Both looked at the flue and exhaust and said that for the amount of money chimney doctors were gonna charge me was scamming. 1,700 with a mandatory inspection again from chimney doctors. I went with another HVAC company who is highly rated, they came out, sealed up the pipe and tightened some screws and ensured me that this was all that was necessary. He even pulled the pipe out to show me how new the flue inside was! Chimney doctors was trying to charge me to replace a brand new flue and was going to setup my exhaust wrong. I feel like i almost got scammed by this company. The work the Hvac company did cost me 175$ as opposed to the false estimate from chimney doctors. tl;dr Chimney doctors estimated me thousands over what high rated legitimate companies estimated. Felt like i was being conned after i had two other highly rated angies list professionals look at the same job and was told that chimney doctors estimates and "problems" were blown out of proportion and that i was potentially being taken advantage of. ALWAYS GET 2-3 Estimates!
Response from CHIMNEY DOCTORS
"We are sorry for the late response. We have looked through the documents on the job and estimates we have done for you and nothing adds up with what you're saying. We said that a level 2 inspection was required for purchasing a house which you were. You stated that we are charging $1700 to repair your gas furnace and hot water liner, which was not to code, when the actual total cost was $761.40. We sent this to you October 20th, 2016 via email. We can not speak for the work that was done by another company, but we are certified by the CSIA and follow all codes. We are an A review with a total of 90 reviews on Angie's List. Communication from the first call to the actual day of service was unprofessional and very disorganized. Company first sent out employees that were not experienced or trained to work on gas stoves. When the owner did arrive, 2 weeks later, and not at the scheduled time, he had not planned on cleaning the stove, only planned to re-light the pilot. 4 hours later, we went to turn the stove on and it failed to ignite. Response from Chimney Doctors was to schedule yet another appointment -that we would need a whole new pilot mechanism. Issue was resolved after trouble shooting with another company within 20 minutes. We did not need any new parts. Chimney Doctors Invoice states " Your family safety is our #1 priority". That was not our experience.
Response from CHIMNEY DOCTORS
"[Member Name Removed], sorry for the late response. We went to your house for a gas service call and we had it running for 30 minutes. We turned it on and off to test it a couple times, and you were very happy with the service when we left. You called us back after hours saying it wasn't working again and we said we could make another appointment with you within the next couple days to look at the problem. You insisted on having us come look at it again that night which was not possible. We do apologize for your experience. We are certified by the CSIA and follow all codes. We are an A review with a total of 90 reviews on Angie's List. We take great pride in our letter grade. We won service awards in 2012 through 2016. The owner Tom and his crew did a fantastic job on my chimney rebuild. They arrived on time at 8:30 am and worked to 6:00. Tom did a took his time and did the job right. He even took the time to try to match our brick color so the repair/rebuild wouldn't so noticeable. When they were done the cleaned up their work area very well. I would hire Tom again for any chimney work. Top notch mason in my book!

I contacted 3 providers.  The Chimney Doctors was the ONLY one to provide a CONTRACTUAL quote.  The others were "$x to get 'er done" - which tells me NOTHING.  The quote was detailed, explaining what would be done, what products would be used (sorely missing from the other quotes) and the cost (for each step!).
They were on time for the work and actually early to completion.
Besides doing the contracted work, they noticed that the flashing needed attention.  While they didn't repair the flashing adequately, for no additional charge, they "did what they could to get me through the winter".  Frankly, I was impressed that they did anything at all, except try to get me to pay more - which they did NOT do!  I'll likely hire them to repair the flashing correctly this coming summer.
The cost was quite a bit higher than the other 2 quotes, but again, I knew what I was getting.  Sometimes, you get what you pay for.  (One of the companies I contacted left me with a brochure describing THREE different ways to reline a chimney, yet the quote did NOT state which would be used!!)
While I can't say for certain that this was their work, I did notice over the subsequent winter that the screen and doors were not properly (re?)installed.  I was able to rearrange the screen to be proper, and haven't tried the doors yet (not that big a deal)...
Overall, very satisfied.

The chimney doctors did a great job inspecting. I do not take issue with them because they did a great job. They found multiple issues with the chimney and even some in the vent in the furnace. The furnace exhaust was not properly tied into the flume and could have been dangerous in the future. They did a absolutely outstanding job finding all the issues and explaining them to me. If i purchase the house i will request them to do the work.
They called and arrived an hour earlier than we originally scheduled which was fine for us. They were already working on the roof when we arrived. The whole process was about an hour and went great.
The negative aspects come from the customer relations contact. I looked this company up via angies list and got the information. I contacted the email provided with this business. I didn't know that the inspection was going to cost money. I initially asked for a estimate of repair for the chimney and an estimate to clean it. Turns out the "estimate" was actually an inspection that cost me 375$. Im glad I had my checkbook because I was surprised at the end. At no point in the conversations was that brought up with the contact via email. I know because im double checking it now as I type this. For accuracy and transparency here is the copy and paste from my emails. If you see that I am wrong i will correct this review. I should mention I am a disabled veteran with memory problems buying my first home so this is all new to me.
____EMAIL START____
Me:"Hello, I am purchasing a home and recently had it inspected. It was suggested that I get this repaired soon. Can you tell me about roughly how much it would cost to repair the masonry and seal up one of the flumes, it's leaking water into the home. Please see attached home inspectors report for images. Also, separately how much is a chimney cleaning? Thanks so much, I found your information from Angie's list."
CD:" I will give this Report to the owner of Chimney Doctors, to see if he can
give you an Estimate of how much it will cost. Usually he has to go out
to look at the Chimney to see what the condition of the Chimney. I will
contact you as soon as I find out.
Also, I need to know what Units run up the Chimney; a Fireplace, Woodstove,
Pellet Stove, or Furnace? Then I can give you a price on the cleaning of the
 Chimney."
Me:"Woodstove and I understand that he needs to look at it I just wanted a ballpark at the moment. Also it's one of those kinds that go into the basement for coal removal or whatever."
CD: "Tom the owner said that he recommends you have a Level 2 Inspection done on the
chimney and each flue that runs up the chimney. He said he can give you an estimate
for the work that needs to be done from the roof up, but he can not see the back part
of the chimney, and he does not know what kind of damage is inside the chimney.
So, He would recommend you schedule an appointment for him to go out and inspect it.
Please give us a call and we can get you on the schedule."
(Following emails are for scheduling, fast forward to second chain)
CD "I'm sorry I forgot to give you the price of a Wood Stove cleaning
it is $190.+tax. If you let me know what the other 2 flues are that
run up the chimney, I can give you the price to clean them too. If you
have to have them all cleaned you will receive $20.00 off the 3rd cleaning."
Me: "Well, I don't own the house yet so I don't need the cleaning. I just wanted to know what it would cost to clean and a separate estimate for the Chimney repair so I know what I'm getting into. I'm in contract to buy the home at the moment and was told by my home inspector to get a chimney professional give me an estimate"
_______________END EMAILS______________________
From that email i received no response and got a call about 8:30 am the morning of the inspection and it was just to confirm the appointment.I double checked the correspondence. Let me be clear what my concern is here. I wanted an estimate of work to be given to me. Had i known that the inspection would have cost money I would have either shopped around or been prepared to fork this money over. They did a great job and i am glad i called them. I am not ok with the lack of transparency or clarity of the cost of this particular request.

My chimney cover had blown off house from a recent wind storm. I was really tempted to rent a ladder to climb up and reinstall it myself. After my wife told me no I decided to make some calls. I admit I was embarrassed because it just seemed like something my dad would have done and a few years ago I wouldn't have given it a second thought. After getting some other estimates that seemed way too high I looked on Angie's list and found Chimney Doctor. I called and the receptionist was extremely nice and polite. She even reassured me when I admitted I was embarrassed to call just for someone to climb up on my roof. She made me much more comfortable with the process. The estimate I felt was extremely reasonable so I scheduled the appointment. The guys came on the day of the appointment early. They went right to work and were very professional. One of the gentlemen was great in explaining everything to me and then found some cracks in my chimney cap when he had gotten up there. He gave me an estimate on repairs for the chimney cap. Overall I was very satisfied with their work and with how handled themselves. They were polite, friendly and professional and I would definitely recommend them.

Work went very well.
Crew of 2 arrived within the window of time specified and completed the work in a timely fashion.
Inspection revealed gaps between chimney tiles that should be addressed before using fireplace.
I was impressed with knowledge and professionalism of the crew and willingness to answer my questions..
Very neat and thoroughly cleaned up before leaving.

They were extremely detailed in their cleaning and inspection. Unfortunately they found that our chimney was deemed unsafe for use, due to neglect from previous owners. They did a fabulous job, were very knowledgeable and informative, as well as provided video and images to show the damage that had occurred over time. In response to that unexpected result, they did give us recommendations and approximate repair costs if we decided to go the route of repairing the wood burning fireplace vs. switching to a gas insert. We would absolutely use them again!

They had to come back and fix the work. It worked just fine. They replaced that and put a blue stone on top of it to make it look better than before. I was dissatisfied with that work. It was pretty awful. I called them and they agreed it wasn't done properly. I was not fully satisfied but it was better than it was. There was another part where when we agreed to the initial quote, I had acquired some blue stones and sent them the dimension to see if it worked for what they needed. They responded via email saying it would work. It would save me a couple of hundred dollars in the cost of materials. When they actually got here, they backtracked on that and said that it wasn't the correct size and we needed to order it.
