The repairmen were prompt and very professional. They got the job done in a few hours, and after the rain was over a few days later, not one drop of water in the closet! I hightly recommend this company to anyone with roof issues. I had called other places who wanted big $$ just to come and look. John is very pleasant and describes the issues in lay terms for those of us who don't know much about a roof, plus does not try and sell you something you don't need. I would definitely use him again.
Description of Work: I had been having problems with water leaking into a closet. I called and a few days later John came and informed me that squirels were trying to get in through the edge of my roof. Thank god they had not gotten in, but had caused damage in several locations, and this was where the water was coming into my closet. He recommened a fix, his price was reasonable, AND his crew was able to come the next day, right before a big rainstorm. He also told me that he would put some sealer around my skylight and chimney, and do some general roof maintenance (some nails had come up etc..). He told me that I shouldn't need a new roof for at least 10 years--some places would try to sell a new roof I'm sure.

It was a really good deal. Some other guy said that I needed to change the whole roof. It has snowed for the last month and nothing has come through so I am very happy with it. I would definitely use them again in the future. They are very good and very reasonable. They were very nice people and they did good quality work. It was a good value.

The experience I had with Leak Stoppers was excellent. About 5 years ago, we started to experience leaks around the bottom of the skylight well in our 20 year+ kitchen extension. After several unsuccessful trial and error attempts by various roofers as well as replacing the skylight, we finally came upon Leak Stoppers. John, the owner, quickly diagnosed the problem. The architectural shingles we had should not have been used for our low slope roof. Instead, John recommended that we get a flat rubber roof. John's assessment was borne out when I did some research on the internet. Why none of the other roofers we had dealt with over the years knew this will remain a mystery! I was impressed with John's knowledge and approach. He spent a good deal of time explaining to my wife and I what the problem was and what his approach would be. I was also impressed that, once he proposed the solution, he would part company with us if we didn't accept his suggested course of action. On the day of the job, his workers were knowledgeable, diligent, and seemed to go to great lengths to get the job right. I was very impressed with their attention to detail. So far, we've had a number of significant storms since the roof was put in. Happily, our newly repainted kitchen ceiling stays dry as a bone. If you have a leak, call Leak Stoppers. Their name says it all and they delivered!

I have waited until now to submit a report because I have had a leak in my roof for many years and have had " reputable" companies come in and attempt to find and fix the leak. Leak Stoppers fixed the problem and I am leak free. I know this to be true because I have weathered two storms since and my ceilings are dry. The employees were amazingly knowledgeable and their work ethic was something that I had never seen before. I would highly recommend them to anyone who would like the problem of a leak solved.

We had been unable to determine whether a leak we were having was due to a problem with the gutter, the roof or both. We had conflicting opinions from various service providers but after a year still had not solution. John from Leak Stoppers diagnosed the issue and recommended that we replace a section of roof. He also suggested some additional minor repairs to address issues of insulation and circulation of air. His bid for all of the work was only a few hundred dollars more than the estimate for just the roof repair that I had gotten from a different company over a year earlier. John was prompt and professional. His crew was also professional, courteous and left the area completely clean at the end of the job. In two subsequent storms, there has not been a trace of moisture.

Professional, honest, quick response and great job! Who could ask for more! Will definitely recommend him to friends. Thanks Angie's list!
Description of Work: I thought I needed a new roof. Roof Stoppers suggested I repair the roof and wait until at least next spring to replace. Other roofers never even showed up! (Lanzello for one). He came on Monday for evaluation and estimate. We decided to go ahead and he was back the next day. Job completed by 4:00 pm!

I called another roofing company and they said I did not need a new roof, just a front shingle to be replaced. It turned out that the leak was not from my roof. Thank god, I did not listen to John O'Connell's advice. I would have been out $2000 dollors and would have still had a Leak.
Description of Work: I called Leak Stoppers Inc, because of brown water stains on my Dining Room Ceiling. John O'Connell from Leak Stoppers arrived and without even going on my roof, he quickly wrote up an estimate charging me over $2000 for a new front roof section. I pointed out that I had a similar leak like this in my Living Room Ceiling and I fixed it by fastening a loose front vinyl shingle, (in an attempt to explain that maybe the leak is coming from the front siding and not the roof.) John curtly disagreed with me, but said if I wanted to he would caulk around the “J-Channel” front siding which may help. I agreed to the caulking and paid the $190 dollar fee. A few days later, after a very windy afternoon of rain, I noticed the same leak on my Dining Room Ceiling, and called John to ask for a refund. John refused to listen to me, cursing and yelling at me over the phone saying that if I had listened to him and agreed to the new front roof job like he recommended, I would not have this leak!! He venomously refused to give me back my refund. I called another roofing company and they sprayed water from my garden hose onto the suspected area, and ascertained that the cause of the leak was not from my roof, but from my front vinyl siding. This is what I suspected all along. I replaced the loose siding and the problem was solved. John O’Connell from Leak Stoppers Inc DID NOT look for a leak, like he advertises, (even though his company is called Leak Stoppers.) Imagine if you will, that you have a leak in your house and you call a company called Leak Stoppers to investigate. But when they arrive to your house they don’t look for a leak. Instead they immediately inform you to get a new roof. It’s like calling a plumber for a leaky pipe in your bathroom, and he tells you to install a new bathroom. This is of course absurd. But this has happened to me, and I hope it does not happen to anyone else, which is why I am writing to you. John O’Connell is an incompetent, unprofessional and hot tempered individual. If he is going to continue to go to people’s houses and simply state that they need a new roof, without going on the roof and looking for the problem, he will do further monetary damages to home owners. Not to mention, his hostile personality, which will cause further emotional distress on top of an already stressful situation.

When giving a free estimate to fix and guarantee a leak, the repair man has to observe and address all threats. This leak was on the ceiling under a questionable roof. The roof section is $2000 less $200 discount from service majic, leaving $1800 for a leak guarantee. The customer felt it was the siding. There was some cracked vinyl and openings where the vinyl met the fascaia capping under roof line, but that was coverring insulation, asbestos, felt paper and sheathing. The roof was much more of a threat, but the customer said he fixxed it in the past with caulk (usually when someone says they fixxed it before, that means they didin't and it only happens when the wind blows real heavy (like the 60 MPH winds that make this customer's roof leak). I agreed to caulk the siding and tar the roof, before the section is done, to try and save the customer $. When the leak re-occurred, I offerred the repair money as credit to the guranteed solution. The customer then demanded a refund, knowing that the repair ATTEMPT was not guaranteed. The customer than threatened me, to give me a 1 star rating on 'Service Magic' and complain to 'BBB' and 'Consumer Affairs'. I told him a deal was a deal and no refunds are given on repair attempts, only credit. I don't take well to threats, so after agreeing to disagree, I said good bye. Clearly in this case (in hind-sight), I should have worked for free (giving back my hard earned $) and let this guy waste my time. I have received complaints from Consumer affairs, Service Majic, BBB and now Angies list. This Customer has wasted more of my time than I could ever imagine. I've had the BBB and Consumer affairs complaints dismissed, because the receipts clearly show that what I recomended was not done. In 11 years this is 1 of a few, out of more than 25,000 customers, who I could not leave happy. We will bend over backwards to satisfy our customers. Example: If what this customer says is true, we may have done the $2000 job ($1800 with service majic discount) only to have it leak again. If that were the case, we would have fixed the supposed leaking siding free of charge. Neither myself or my employees are perfect, but we are who we say we are. Just look at our other 100 plus ratings on service majic and Angies list. Most are repairs, not new roofs.

I was very happy with the work done.Gary explained everything that would be done in advance and was on time. The job was finished in a day and they cleaned everything up.
Description of Work: a section of the roof was stripped to the plywood and a rotted piece was replaced. the whole section was recoverd with ice and water shield and new roofing tiles. Vinyl siding was reinstalled and a new skylight window was installed. They also went over the rest of the roof and resealed air vents and the furnace exhaust and cleaned the rain gutters even though this was not in the estimate.

They charged me $85 for providing an estimate which was never mentioned on the Angie's List website, and I found that to be sneaky. Their estimate was very high as well. When other roofers were estimating $700 for the job, Leak Stoppers was estimating $2800.00.

Response from Leak Stoppers Inc
Leak Stoppers Inc. is a roofing, siding and window repair company that specializes in analizing, fixing and guaranteeing any leak. For this type of work there is an $85 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. I do offer FREE COMPLETE ROOF ESTIMATES, but not both at the same time. Either your roof is old and you need a roof or someone compitant needs to figure out how to best spend your $ to repair the problem. My $85 fee is waived (applied to work) just like al other service profesionals. ***$2800 was to remove and re-install siding above a section of roof; replace 600 sq ft of roofing and re-furbish a skylight, giving a 5 YEAR LEAK WARRANTY. A $350 plus tax option for a seal up attempt (with no guarantee was also given. I can't imagine what kind of job could be done for $700. Too much for an attempt and way underestimated for a GUARANTEE. Let's see what happens when it starts to rain again. **Check BBB and Consumer affairs to check for all Company complaints. We have 0 in 11 years.

Roof leaked due to lots of snow and rain but did not leak when I called Leak Stoppers. They came within a reasonable time and John explained what my options were. John was very curtious and explained in detail what he was going to do and the next week my roof was fixed by the day I requested. The workers were very polite and did not leave a mess. Your would not think that I had any work done. Will definetly call them back if I ever needed them again. Extreamly satisfied.
Description of Work: Sealed right side upper window and trim using silicone, sealed joint where roofing meets siding using black jack. Re-shingled rear upper roof 5 feet in from left edge from gutter to peak using ice/water shield and 25 year charcoal roofing.

Overall a great experience. The initial estimate was $900.00. I presented an Angies List Coupon and received a $100 discount
Description of Work: I had a representative from Leak Stoppers meet with me on Monday 3/8/2010 to evaluate the problem. He accompanied me into the attic and also accessed to roof to diagnose the problem. He provded a competitive estimate to replace the ridge cap with a properly fitted ridge vent. On Wednesday 3/10/2010, the job was completed to my satisfaction. This work was performed just in time. We had stormy weather over the following weekend with approximated 4" of rain. "No Leaks"

Our kitchen roof has been leaking on and off for over 25 years, ever since we had an extension put on the kitchen. We have had people try to fix it over the years but they have all failed. After reading recommendations on Angies list there was no question who to call. Leak Stoppers, Inc. had the best reviews. We needed the work done very soon since we had a new kitchen being installed in January and the installer said he didn't want to put in the new sheetrock and cabinets if the leak wasn't fixed. We had originally planned on trying to find someone to fix the roof in the spring when the weather was better but with all the cabinets and everything on the way we were in a bind. I called John at Leak Stoppers and told him about the roof and the kitchen situation. He knew exactly what the problem was with this type of almost flat roof after I described the style of house and roof to him. He explained exactly what they could do to fix it. Knowing the bind that we were in he said they try to get it fixed as quickly as possible, weather permitting. He sent over a technician named Brian to inspect the roof and give an estimate. He was over within about a day(Dec.11) of my speaking to John. He checked out the roof and explained exactly what was wrong and what was necessary to fix it. He gave me an estimate and indicated that if the weather cooperated they would try to get it done the next week. Considering the extent of the work, the time constraints, and the extreme weather I was very happy with the estimate, $1,675. The weather did not fully cooperate that next week, it was awful, extremely cold and windy. I got a call on that Thursday from Brian that they would be at my house on Friday morning(Dec. 18) and would do the work that day. Brian and another worker arrived the first thing in the morning and worked all day. It was extremely cold that day I don't know how they could stand it but they worked on the roof all day non-stop right into the dark. When I saw the work the next day in the daylight I was really happy. The roof looked great, much better than expected. Even the patched in shingles going onto the main roof matched well. They also did a nice cleanup of all the debris. The day after the roof was fixed we had a really big snow storm. We had a lot of snow on the roof for days and as it melted we had no more leak. Before it was fixed it would have leaked like crazy for days but no more. We have also had some rain since and there is no more leak! I have already decided that when we need the main roof replaced we will have Leak Stoppers do it. The workers were totally professional, knowledgeable and very hardworking. They came through for us when we needed quick service and gave us great quality too. We couldn't have asked for any more. I'm recommending them to everyone I know.
Description of Work: Replaced leaky roof that has that has been a problem for over 25 years. Entire rear kitchen roof, that is almost flat, was completely removed and replaced with special materials to minimize the return of my leak. Additionally, he had to remove some shingles along the flashing going up onto the main roof and replace them. He also fixed some popped nails that were causing some of the shingles on the main roof to lift.

I had been experiencing leaks in my downstairs bathroom and in the apartment which is on the second floor. I had several roofing specialists over for estimates and in each case they recommended that I install a new roof which would cost from $6,500 to $15,000 depending who you ask. Leak Stoppers can put in a new roof, but clearly won,t if it's not necessary. For me honesty is everything in business It went great. He was professional, courteous and honest. I will call him when the time comes for the new roof.
Description of Work: When Leak Stoppers arrived, he checked out the roof and when he was done he asked me who said I needed a new roof? Because I didn't. He sealed two vent pipes and one base using flashing cement. He charged me $175 and said see you in five to ten years when you do need a new roof. .

It went very well. They arrived a little later than I expected, but they got the job done in one day, as promised. Though the job took them into the evening, they did a very thorough cleanup. Brian, the estimator, who was also the foreman for the repair, was a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: They removed the roofing down to the sheathing in a large area of the roof surrounding, as well as including, the area of the leak. The area included a skylight, chimney, two active vents and two passive vents (standpipes). They installed new ice and water shield along the bottom edge of the roof area and around the skylight. They installed 30-pound felt paper and new shingles to match the existing roof, and installed a new ridge vent. They installed a new glass replacement top for the skylight, and cleaned out the exhaust vents.

High winds and rains will flood our phones. Past customers, contracted customers, businesses with repeat business (all of Applebees, Commercial management companys, etc.) and customers willing to pay $85 minumum diagostic fee for same day service (fee is applied toward work if completed by Leak Stoppers) come first. Free estimates on leaks and new roofs come second. I started this company to provide 'Same Day Leak Repair' and my business plan is mainly the same today.

John, the owner of Leak Stoppers, came to do the estimate. His was one of 3 estimates. Of all the estimates, John's was the most thorough in terms of providing the details of what needed to be done for the job to be done right. He also explained that his company's talent was to stop leaks and/or do new roofing that would be impervious to leaks in the future. In looking back to the other companys, none of them described a job that would meet the same standard as this one. He is not a "jack of all trades, and master of none". He stops leaks and has had very positive reports here. The crew that came was pleasant and thorough. They concentrated on the work and only took a break for lunch on the two 12 hour days they spent. There was so much to do. I never saw a cell phone being used (except once when we had a question for John), which is unusual lately. We were not easy customers. We asked a lot of questions and asked them to look at things (which caused them to have to stop). But they still came back. But, really, they would have had to get paid anyway. The point is they were always willing to stop and answer. The workers (two came with the head of the crew, Gary) were very nice, and smiled even in the 12th hour. They even took down a huge, very old antenna from a flat roof adjacent to this one on the house. They cleaned up beautifully, including vacuuming the sunroom and using a blower on the whole periphery of the house. I would definitely recommend this company.
Description of Work: This company was called to put a completed roof on a sunroom that had only tar paper on it (left that way by prior owner) because it was leaking. Had to replace 80% of the wood over my sunroom. This possibility was expected as it never had a proper roof and the invoice did provide an amount per sq.ft. They installed a base sheet and Firestone roofing--appropriate for a flat roof. The particulars are too numerous to state here, but they capped our windows, sealed, installed new insulation where the house met the roof and replaced the shingles on the house.

This type of repair is not guaranteed which I understand. Since it is not snowing nor is there ice sitting on the roof only time will tell if the repair stopped the problem. John did make sure that we were both on the same page as to what the problem was and what he did to try and fix it. He did say that if it did not work then next spring we could try again.
Description of Work: This category is wrong but roofing was not available. I have a leak problem when I have snow or ice on the roof. John send a helper onto the roof and tried to pinpoint any problem spot on my roof. He replaced shingles in several areas - the roof is 9 yrs old- and did a lot of caulking and sealing what he felt were trouble spots.

John came over within a few minutes of my contacting him (which was 2 days before our 12" snowfall!) saw what was needed, gave us a few ways of approaching the problem and offered good advice as well as costs for each approach. They came out the next day and fixed it. The proof was obvious when the snow melted and nothing came in where it had been leaking. They were quiet, efficient and neat.

Excellent. I had requested estimates from 5 roofing companies and had received a wide range of what was needed to fix the roof, along with a wide range of prices. John O'Connell seemed to really know the roofing process and I had a lot of confidence in what he described as what was needed.

We had a new roof installed over three years ago. The flat roof over our family room addition continued to leak. The original roofer came back four times, but could not stop the leak. We contacted Leak Stoppers and they did the work, giving us a five year guarantee. So far we have had three heavy rains and no leaks!
Description of Work: The siding was removed from a second floor addition and connected to the roof on the first floor addition correctly.

The owner of the business responded immediately to my call, came the next day to give an estimate and the worker repaired the leak and cleaned the roof two days later, before the storm. They were polite and very professional. They cleaned the ground and outside steps where the debris from the roof fell. Heavy rains tested their work the day after. They passed the test!!!
Description of Work: The leaks on the flat roof were repaired before the tropical storm Hanna, the whole roof was cleaned and swept.
