I was very happy with both the work done and the men who performed the work. The first time they came they were not satisfied with the fit of the the replacement top. They told me they would order a new one and come back. The communication with me was not great but I was happy in the long run.

We have used Leak Stoppers at other times and never had to call them back for unsatisfactory work. as a matter of fact i plan to have them assess damage from irene and also damage done by a tree company to our roof form the equipment in the utility truck while exiting our driveway.

He sent Brian and another worker for the repairs a couple of days later. They were on time and completed the work in a very professional manner. When he completed the work Brian again explained what he had done. I am very pleased to give this company my highest recommendation.
Description of Work: I have two skylights which were installed about 20 years ago. They both leaked, but for different reasons. John made an appointment, he was on time and went on the roof to examine the situation. He then sat down with me and explained, in detail, why they were leaking and the difference between them. On one skylight the weather stripping was warped and had to be glued with an epoxy cement and clamped. The second needed new glass and cap. I felt the estimate was fair and was pleased that he did not tell me they both had to be replaced.

Overall everything went very well. Only weather was a problem. Workers and owner were there when promised and completed everything they were hired to do. Very clean and very good service.
Description of Work: Owner returned my call promptly and set up appointment to give estimate. Arrived on time and gave a thorough review of problem. Leaks were letting water come in and stain kitchen and bathroom ceilings, also a second leak around chimney which was causing water leaks and damage to ceiling in attached garage and laundry area. It was a much bigger job than I had anticipated and they had to remove vinyl siding, gutters and trim around dog house dormer in order to waterproof and reseal to stop leaks. We have had this problem on going since the home was originally vinyl sided more than 10 years ago. The leak around the chimney has been there since we moved in more than 25 years ago. We have had several others in to try & fix leaks, but they always came back. This crew was on time and performed their work very efficiently and cleaned up all the leftover debris and removed it. They did not get to finish the job as originally estimated on the 2nd day due to bad weather. They did return as soon as possible after the rain stopped and finished up everything except a few small items which they did not have time to complete due to darkness. They did return as promised the following day to finish this last bit and only then did I pay them. I did not have to give any down payment or money for materials until the job was fully complete. Leak Stoppers gave me a written 5 year guarantee on all the work performed and also gave me the Angie's list discount, plus a discount for multiple jobs, as each leak was considered separate. We were very satisfied with the job from start to finish. Now we will just have to wait and see if the leaks have truly stopped. If not, we were assured they will be back to repair it. They did such a thorough job, not patching, but truly taking everything off the dormer and resealing and put everything back including replacing the shingles and trim they had removed, that I don't believe we will have any more trouble. Would definitely recommend them if you need any work done on fixing leaks.

Work was done quickly and neatly. It would have been convenient if they were also in business to do repairs on the interior (our ceiling in the kitchen was a mess from the leak), but we had a handyman who was good with spackling do that after the roof was repaired.
Description of Work: We had a leak in the sloped/flat part of our roof over the kitchen. The owner was there within a day or two, advised me about my options and even printed out an estimate right from his truck. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable and I felt secure in hiring him to do the job.

My dad was a roofer and he would have considered this to be an "Old School" company. The men know their trade; they don't cut corners; they are prompt, and their prices are fair. We are very pleased with the results.
Description of Work: After Leak Stoppers solved a problem with my skylight, I was happy to call upon them again when my roof developed a leak by the chimney. After the earthquake I found a 1/2 inch separation between the roof and the chimney and a water spot on a bedroom ceiling.

I thought that the price was a little bit on the high side, given that it only took about 10 minutes for the repair. There was a torrential rain storm 2 weeks after he repaired it, and there was not a drop inside the house, so it does show that he did a good job. He was also very knowledgeable in his craft.

Leaks with guarantees start at $200 plus tax. $150 was discounted. 8 trucks, 3500 sq. ft,. shop, 13 employees, $2,000,000 liability insurance and Workmans comp. for ROOFING add up to more than most people would ever imagine. Simple little 10 minute jobs take over an hour, when you include drive time. Nothing takes 10 minutes in this business. How much would the same job be worth if it leaked again and I had to spend over an hour on a FREE visit? (We warranty our work). Leak diagnostic is $85. If work is done we waive the fee and start at $150 for Angies list customers. ( my advertising savings and high percentage of sales through Angie's customers, allow me to give YOU the best price. Thanks you ALL for your support.) John O'Connell (owner)

ON THE DAY OF THE REPAIR, LEAK STOPPERS MEN ARRIVED ON TIME. THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO, AND DID IT. THEY CUT NO CORNERS. HIS MEN WERE POLITE, AND CLEANED UP AFTER THEM SELVES.
Description of Work: THE PREVIOUS ROOFER LEFT A RAISED PORTION OF THE FASCIA THAT TOUCHES THE SHINGLED ROOF EDGE. THIS CAUSED THAT PART OF THE ROOF TO RAISE THUS CHANGING THE WAY THE RAIN WATER FLOWED OFF THE EDGE, THUS CAUSING THE WATER TO FLOW UNDER AND BEHIND THE FASCIA. THE ORIGINAL ROOFER WAS NOT WILLING TO FIND, AND REPAIR THE CAUSE. JOHN FROM LEAK STOPPERS KNOW AT ONCE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. HE EXPLAINED WHAT WAS NEEDED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM PROPERLY. IT WAS A LOT OF WORK, BUT IT HAD TO BE DONE.

They were prompt, courteous, professional, and eager to please. They moved my patio furniture out of the way while they worked, replaced everything to where it had been when they were done, and cleaned up every bit of their rubbish. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: The kitchen ceiling sprang three leaks. Leak Stoppers identified the cause. They installed vents in the superior portion of the roof, removed then replaced siding to accommodate new flashing, replaced an old sky light, and reshingled the affected portion of the lower roof.

I had a problem with ice damning, that messed up my porch ceiling. The owner of Leak Stoppers, John, was pleasant and his solutions made more sense than what other contractors recommended. The reviews on Angie's list and other sites were stellar so I hired him. They came on the scheduled day. The next day (when I flew out of town) they finished up the work. When I returned from my trip I was surprised to find many deficiencies as follow: 1. Soffit vents Estimate/contract called for 23 soffit vents, only 15 installed. They later explained why, and adjusted the price, but why did I have to ask about this? What if I didn't go and count the # of vents? I'd be paying for work that wasn't done. The actual hole under some of the soffit vents was quite small (ie less than half of the area of the aluminum vents). There was a $150 charge for painting the vents. Only 2 out of 15 were painted, and this was very poorly done. See pics: http://flic.kr/p/9xRiJ4 & http://flic.kr/p/9xRiDi . Also note that half the screws are missing in one of those pics Some vents were not flush with soffit: http://flic.kr/p/9xRiMP One vent in the rear of the house was misaligned with the rest: http://flic.kr/p/9xUid9 I had a thermometer hanging outside a 2nd flr window, right under the misaligned vent. This thermometer was broken during the work. I don't care about the value of it, but it would have been nice if someone mentioned it or they replaced it. 2. Supposed to have total 8 louvered roof vents - 6 on the main part of the house, and 2 over the rest of the house. Two vents were not placed: http://flic.kr/p/9xUhNj & http://flic.kr/p/9xUhG3 . Again, if I hadn't gotten on my roof to check, I would be paying for work never done. 3. Bathroom fan duct The duct was not secured to the bathroom fan: http://flic.kr/p/9xUuqG An excessive length of collapsible flexible duct was used. This is bad practice, as the extra length + corrugations aren't going to be good for air flow & will collect dust: http://flic.kr/p/9xUzmN The grill on the outside vent was not on right: http://flic.kr/p/9xRika Once again, If I hadn't crawled through my attic, and gotten on my roof, I would be paying for substandard work. 4. Porch ceiling/fascia The hihats were not well placed in the vinyl soffit & they've were all chipped up: http://flic.kr/p/9xUiv3 Water was leaking from the edge of the porch gutter, creating a puddle. This was in a light rain. This wasn't there before (I know, because I had put the gutters back up myself and checked on them through multiple rainfalls). See: http://youtu.be/FWuYo4L_lpk?hd=1 & http://flic.kr/p/9xUiDQ I emailed John about all of the above. He was responsive and apologized. (Update: to clarify, it was a different foreman that came out this second visit). They ended up painting all the soffits on my house, which I guess was a bonus of some sort. They knocked $100 off the price. They fixed all the soffit vent issues. They fixed the bathroom fan ducting. They re-painted the edges of my porch hi-hats and changed their positioning a bit, but they still look crappy. I can live with that. Lastly they added the two roof vents which were omitted the first time around... or so I thought. Initially when I saw the two additional aluminum louvers on my roof I assumed everything was okay. A week later, after a heavy rain, I went into my attic to check on the work and make sure none of it leaked. I could only find 7 vent holes cut in the roof, but if I went on my roof I could clearly see 8 vents. Was it possible that they just pasted the aluminum louver to my roof without cutting a hole under it? That would be crazy. Of course I was going to check, given what happened last time. Long story, short, John sent someone out to check (a third visit, this time the original foreman). They confirmed that there was no hole cut under that aluminum louver. They fixed it. I never heard back from John about this. No apology, although he did apologize the first time around. In the end it looks like the final quality of work is good, and the price wasn't too bad. John also gives a 5 yr warranty. But the amount of time I wasted in the process (documenting the poor work, crawling through an unfriendly attic, getting on my roof) and the extra stress incurred made this a terrible value. I'm not sure how to square my experience with all the stellar reviews Leak Stoppers have online. My experience with Leak Stoppers makes no sense in that context. Maybe the business got too busy and John placed too much trust in unfaithful employees? I don't really know.

Throughout 13 years in business with up to 15 employees (now 9), we have never claimed to be perfect, although I try. This job was rushed by a long time employee (since 1999) and after being sent the email, detailing all above issues, I quickly took action. All issues were immediately addressed (painting entire luan soffit at no-charge, enlarging holes under 2 vents, fixing leaking gutters that were not in the original contract). The employee in charge was placed on probation and not long after, let go. We pride ourselves on our thoroughness and quality on all jobs, big and small. In this business it has to look good and it can't leak. Firing my first employee after over 12 years together is what I'm willing to do, to make sure this never happens again.

The roof in my den has been leaking, and we suspected that it was coming from the skylight although we were not sure since other roofers told us that the roof needed replacement. John could have tried to sell us a new skylight or roof, but he was honest. He told us up-front that the cost of the visit and evaluation was going to be $85.00, (which would be deducted from the repair should we go with him) and he realized that we did not need a roof. He saw that the problem was the skylight itself. At first he thought that the skylight lid would need replacement because of its age (20 years) but he discovered that the wind and the weight of the winter snow had knocked the skylight out of alignment causing a gap. He fixed the problem and all it cost was $85.00. We have had some heavy rain since John left and there is no leak!!!

Two guys arrived in time and went to work. Took them about 3 hours all told. They cleaned up the old shingles and took them with them.
Description of Work: John came out an checked out a leak in my roof. Since the ventilation was not great in the attic he also recommended the installation of 5 roof vents to improve air circulation. The cost for the 15x10 sq ft replacement of shingles and the 5 vents was $1050 including my 10% discount which I thought was fair. It also included a 2 year warranty. Since then it has rained hard a number of times and not a leak in sight.

I called Leak Stoppers to evaluate a leak under my dining room windows, and to check out the condition of my roof. While other roofing companies told me I need a new roof, John told me I could hold off a couple of years and suggested fixing some cracks in the shingles. He also caulked all of my windows, and did some repair on some of the cracks in the stone siding. I will definitely call Leak Stoppers when I need to replace my roof.

It went very well. The roof was repaired and we rec'd a warranty. See story above
Description of Work: We had a leak after a severe storm. We thought the leak was already repaired as we had someone perform services earlier in the year and it rained and snowed many times after with no leak. The leak occurred overnight and I found Leak Stoppers on Angie's List that morning. I called and the owner came within hours-exactly when he said he would. He was very polite and spent about 45 minutes talking to me about the history of the leak and then examining the roof and explaining the problem and what was required to fix it. He gave me a written estimate and a time for the repair. I scheduled the repair and it was done when he said it would be. The crew was on time, very polite, and they left the site clean. I was given a written 5 year warranty on the repair on the receipt . I was very pleased.
