I hired this contractor based off of a recommendation from the owner of the store where I bought my kitchen cabinets. The contractor was nicely dressed and presented himself well when he came to review his estimates and see if I'd sign a contract with him to remodel a kitchen and bathroom. I was not living in the house at the time of the remodel which started approx 01/31/2012 and was still not completed by 04/08/12. During the course of the remodel the contractor, John Gregory, kept an erratic work schedule. Also, because we were not living in the house he did not take enough precautions to keep the remainder of the house closed up to keep the dust and dirt out. He had a table saw set up in the kitchen. He also did not clean up on a regular basis as would be expected if I were living in the house during the remodel. He had to be prodded on a regular basis to get work done. He suggested the painter come in and complete some of the painting prior to cabinets and tiling being installed. The painter had to come three time to do touch up work where John Gregory was negligent and continued to be haphazard. Walls were dinged and dented, a sofit in kitchen was not built in a timely manner that needed to be painted and he was careless in the bathroom and got grout on the ceiling three times. There was a sofit in the kitchen, it was removed and exposed a pipe. This pipe needed to have a box built hiding it within the cabinet. He never built the box. He damaged 2 installed door fronts by hitting them with the ladder. Several of the kitchen cabinet handles he installed are crooked; nothing could be done since holes were already drilled. He had completed some of the tiling in the bathroom and due to the subpar workmanship I hired a tile contractor recommended from the tile store to install the tile backsplash. Mr. Gregory was furious with that situation and let me know it. The day the granite counter was being installed Mr. Gregory started yelling at me in front of the 3 men because I pointed out a problem with the cabinet install. The undermount lighting has exposed connections sticking out of the light A door was removed in hall and jam was replaced. Beautiful. However, when he was bringing fridge in through this door he fell and the fridge did major damage on the newly installed jam and door was dented. He replaced the vanity and faucet in powder room and the stop plug handle does not retract all the way; it's sticking up higher than the handles! Now the bathroom. It was to be tiled floor to ceiling all four walls along with a niche installed (cut out that holds items within the shower). The tile I chose and ordered ended up being discontinued tile. The tile and grout job was the worst. The tiles were not all flush to the wall, several stuck out farther than others. Several were crooked and chipped. The grout had holes and cracks in it and had turned a dull hazy color only days after installing. I had three tile contractors come and give me their opinion on how to fix the problem. It boiled down to all the grout being removed and regrouted because Mr. Gregory used too much water mixing the grout and washing off the wall. We could not use the shower. A beautiful frameless glass wall/door was installed and in order to correct the the grout it had to be removed 10 days after it was installed and never used. The shower head was supposed to have been installed at a certain height and it was lower than agreed upon. Now when the shower door opens it hits the shower head. One day he was using the new vanity porcelain top as a place to hold his tools!! He didn't even have the top covered. The light switch was installed upside down and it appeared concave. The niche was a complete botch job. The tiles were not flush and cut crooked. The bullnose tile would fit perfect to frame the interior of the niche, however, he cut the bullnose length wise and made a problem where it wasn't necessary. The shelf in the niche was tipped in toward the wall instead of pitching it so the water would run out into the shower. When all of the new appliances arrived they were placed in the garage where the wet saw was also. He had unwrapped a couple of the appliances to see them for some reason and did not cover them back up to protect them from all of the dusty debris. We had giant container dumpster in the driveway for 2.5 months. It left 2 indents in the blacktop. Whenever I pointed out something that I was not happy with Mr Gregory became defensive. He even raised his voice to me. He ended up walking off the job and it was unfinished. The amount of money owed to him on the contract did not cover the amount of money I had to pay to correct all of his problems and get the job completed.
