"We apologize for the misunderstanding that occurred in your interaction with our company. Being known throughout the Hudson Valley for providing excellent service to thousands of clients for over 30 years in business it came as a surprise to hear your complaint. Mike McCarthy is an exceptionally qualified and experienced landscape professional. Mike made several attempts to clarify the scope of work and what you wanted to be done on your property. We pride ourselves on our landscape services and the high-quality standards we maintain and would like to make things right. Please give us a call at 845-288-4207 or email us at [email protected]"
"Mike is not the owner. He was going through a tough time personally. We apologize that he did not get back to you. Please call me, I want to make it up to you. Steve (owner)"
"I am very sorry you were overlooked. Please call me, I want to make it right. I have a gift certificate for a restaurant I can send you. Again, I apologize we let that slip through. Steve"
I used Red Cedar once before for very similar service and was pleased, so I called them again for this job.
Things went pretty well this time too. Michael Barker came to do the quote, he looked over the job a bit quickly, and we didn't discuss a couple of things as completely as I would have liked. Michael didn't ask what I wanted to do with the wood from the trees that were cut and I didn't think to bring this up either. I think I would have preferred to keep some of the wood for firewood, but the subject never came up, and the wood ended up being taken away (I was not at home at the time the work was done). I also mentioned to Michael that I might want to do some additional work later on a retaining wall and landscaping, but he didn't seem very interested in discussing this. I've since hired another contractor to do some of that work.
The actual work was done pretty well. The tree removal, stump grinding and trimming were well done, my one criticism being that the crew dragged some large pieces of the cut trees across my lawn tearing out some of the turf. They could have been a bit more careful with this.
They called me in advance when the stump grinder was to come (done on a separate day from the tree cutting), but I didn't get a call before the tree work was done, but that might have been my fault, I remember my answering machine filled up sometime around then and they might have tried and failed to leave a message. The stump grinder left large piles of chips, I called to ask about this and they sent someone out the next day to remove them (I'm not sure if they were planning to do that already, it required separate equipment from the stump grinding).
Overall, the removal of 2 dead trees, trimming another tree, and chipping a pile of brush and grinding out 2 stumps went well.
"Mike went through a rough time last year personally. Unfortunately it affected his work. I understand your frustration and would like to make it up to you. Please call me. Steve"

they were actually our first choice. HE really knew what he was talking about, did not sell us on unnecessary stuff and we both felt really good about giving Red Cedar our business. Extremely professional, timely and
very thorough. He is honest and fair.
Two weeks later, after
several more estimates from a couple of different companies one of the
trees came down on the house! NEedless to say, we contacted whoever had
given us an estimate and the job went to whoever called us back the
fastest out of our top picks. To be fair, it was the weekend and we
couldn't reach most of the companies.
We will be using red cedar in the future for our other tree service needs.
"I apologize we were not able to quote you the lowest price. I am glad you were able to save money."
