I used Red Cedar once before for very similar service and was pleased, so I called them again for this job.
Things went pretty well this time too. Michael Barker came to do the quote, he looked over the job a bit quickly, and we didn't discuss a couple of things as completely as I would have liked. Michael didn't ask what I wanted to do with the wood from the trees that were cut and I didn't think to bring this up either. I think I would have preferred to keep some of the wood for firewood, but the subject never came up, and the wood ended up being taken away (I was not at home at the time the work was done). I also mentioned to Michael that I might want to do some additional work later on a retaining wall and landscaping, but he didn't seem very interested in discussing this. I've since hired another contractor to do some of that work.
The actual work was done pretty well. The tree removal, stump grinding and trimming were well done, my one criticism being that the crew dragged some large pieces of the cut trees across my lawn tearing out some of the turf. They could have been a bit more careful with this.
They called me in advance when the stump grinder was to come (done on a separate day from the tree cutting), but I didn't get a call before the tree work was done, but that might have been my fault, I remember my answering machine filled up sometime around then and they might have tried and failed to leave a message. The stump grinder left large piles of chips, I called to ask about this and they sent someone out the next day to remove them (I'm not sure if they were planning to do that already, it required separate equipment from the stump grinding).
Overall, the removal of 2 dead trees, trimming another tree, and chipping a pile of brush and grinding out 2 stumps went well.
"Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to post. We appreciate the work as well."
"Thanks for posting. Pleasure working for you."
"The reviewer did not hire us, we were hired by her mother. Reviewer showed up screaming profanities, threatening to call the police. The trees were damaged by October 2011 snow storm, not from us climbing them. We were not hired to “graft or paste limbs back together.” We pruned the broken limbs back to the trunk using modern arboricultural standards. The trees responded as well as expected. At the end of the job, our arborist spoke with the client, she agreed the job was done as proposed. She paid us in full."
"We really appreciate the review. We try really hard every day to deliver great service. We try to minimize the trauma to the homeowner while dealing with their trees. Thank you."
