Van Bortel Subaru

My son's 2009 Subaru broke down on the NYS Thruway on Sat. 2/8/20 and I told him to call Van Bortel for service. VB said the service department was open until 9pm on Saturdays. So, the car was towed into VanBortel and when we met with Sam Y, service advisor at 11:30am. Sam shared that VB technicians leave at 1:30pm and it's likely the car will not be checked until Monday. I called Monday 2/10 at 1pm and was told by Steve S. that our car has not been seen yet and there are other cars ahead of us waiting to be serviced. I asked how many cars and when did he estimate it would be seen. Steve's response was he didn't know and he would contact us after it was seen. Another day passed without hearing from Van Bortel, so I called them on Tuesday, 2/11 @ 3:30pm and was told that our car still had not been looked at by anyone (4 days after it was towed in). Having lost all confidence in Van Bortel's service dept and terrible customer service, I arranged for our car to be towed from VB to East Ave. Auto Service where it was evaluated the next morning. VanBortel use to be known for their exceptional quality & customer service. That's why I bought 7 Subarus and had them periodically serviced there. However, my experience along with others that I have recently learned (eg. VB service person over-filled oil in the crankcase and didn't secure the battery terminal resulting in the car needing road service) leave me disillusioned with Van Bortel. As a result, I won't risk buying or having cars serviced at VB again.

The quality of the cars, keep me going back. The Subaru has a very high resale value. The dealership itself is owned by a women and her husband. It is the unique combination of a women's touch at how you purchase a car, and how you service a car, and how you resale a car it has a very unique atmosphere.

Pretty average, they sell they parts at list price. Excellent

Oh they're good. They're pretty average on price. I have bought 3 vehicles from them over a period of over 17 years. The service has been excellent. They've been very vet nice. The connection with the sales persons and the availability to get financing. It's a very good dealership on all aspects. Sales, being able to do financing, and resale. It's about 17 miles from my house but I go the distance because it's a very good place.

I have an maintenance agreement with them also.

They sell subaru, and fix them. Very professional, polite, knowledgeable, and friendly. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing service or repair on a subaru.

They're always very good.

They were very upfront about the pricing, there was no pressure, and they let me drive cars around and test them without them even being in the car. I went and test drove the car, and we picked one. I think the car was way over priced.

They're damn expensive. We had a problem with them. They had done an inspection on the car and they wanted to put in new brakes which was $1500. So, we took it to my mechanic which is the one I used to take my car to and he half-priced. So, we called up Van Bortel and told them, "Forget it." While he was doing this, he found something wrong that should have been caught at the dealership. It was still under warranty by two weeks. Basically, he saved a fortune.

As usual, Van Nortel Subaru always exceeds my expectations. They checked the car over as a courtesy

My independent garage could not diagnose the rumble coming from the drivetrain of my Forester. My car was immediately better, but not completely resolved. However the rumble did completely disappear about 3 weeks later. (My mechanic refunded my charges based on this outcome!)
