This was our 3rd project with Benson and like the first two, we are thrilled with the results! Hector and Alexis are amazing workers. They showed up, rain or shine, and put in a full day of work, assuring that the project would be done on time, as originally planned. This was no minor mulch job. It was a full blown, weeklong undertaking. When they were done, the lawn was graded with topsoil, grass seed was added, and hay was set on top to protect the new growth.

Look around before going here. Their salesman Greg Fritz is not the best at what he does. First and foremost, he takes weeks before showing up or even returning your call. That should have been my first clue. Second, be very careful cause you will end up with so many different quotes that your head will spin. We went from a $4500 job to a $17000 job when we were done because of his lack of communication. A good salesman writes things down that a customer wants / requests or at least takes pictures. He showed up without a pen or paper and of course my quote was wrong and so was the work to be done. When they showed up it was a good thing I was home and noticed. He never came around to show us designs or work. Everything was basically through email. The workers themselves were great. Now they need to get a real sales person who doesn't screw customers over by adding things as they go because his quotes are wrong. Maybe that's how they choose to do business. We asked to see the owner personally and he would not do it. Very sad to work with a company like that. Will never recommend or use again. They never came back to make sure the work was done to our satisfaction. His comment was they always wait for the customer to call them if there is any problem. I guess when I spend $17000 I would expect someone to follow up and make sure everything was done correctly. But then again that's just how I do business.
Response from Benson Enterprises

"We are glad you are happy with the finished project and thank you for your valued business. We have tried to resolve this with you; however, you have been unwilling to do so. The last time we spoke, you said you would pay the bill and leave us a bad review which is unfair. You called us on May 13th, we met on May 20th and we provided your estimate on June 1st so it only took (11) days to receive your estimate. We put a lot of time and energy into our estimates to make sure they are accurate and reflective of the work our customers request. You signed the estimate for the drainage and patio that you originally requested. After that you asked for an additional estimate for retaining walls, a walk to your playground area and a walk to the front of your house. I provided this 2nd estimate to you which you also signed. No design was needed for the patio or walls because we were replacing existing ones and the playground excavation was already completed. We agreed that the walk to the front of your house would be painted out onsite several days before the work was to be completed and agreed upon before any work was done. The shapes and sizes of all the hardscaping were described in detail on the contract proposal, as well as what was and was not included. You sent payment less the amount for the additional work that you requested for the wall between the concrete walk and steps that you had added on. Your original proposal specifically said, “Does not include replacing the wall between the concrete walk and steps” but you added it on afterwards. Weeks after you received the invoice, you asked to speak to the owner who called and spoke to you on (3) different occasions trying to resolve this, but you were unable to commit. Finally, you said you wanted to meet instead of discussing on the phone. He agreed to that, however, you decided not to meet and said you would send a detailed letter which we never received. The offer still stands to meet with you if you would like to review anything with us."

The crew was friendly and worked diligently with great attention to detail. Did an exceptional job of collecting and disposing of the leaves and downed branches from the lawn and beds. Edged and weeded planting beds and spread mulch. The yard went from a real mess to beautiful in two days.

Horrible experience with fall clean up service. Equipment used tore up lawn, leaving huge swaths of bare ground and tire tracks. Charged me an extra fee to remove leaves from under our hedges. Contract included pruning bushes, cutting back perennials etc and was never completed ‘due to weather’ but still charged full price. Gutters were cleaned using a leaf blower leaving my windows and exterior walls covered in mud and muck. I had to call serveral times and follow up to schedule the cleanup. A lot of headaches and a lot of money for a terrible job.
Response from Benson Enterprises

"We have made several attempts to contact you letting you know that we would come out to do some seeding to repair any damage that was caused due to the extremely wet weather when we originally performed the work. We also said we would come out and clean your windows from any debris that our service may have caused. Additionally, we did not charge you extra fees for the additional clean up. We heard back from you on February 1st. We cleaned the windows that had debris on them and seeded the bare areas. We spoke with you on May 1st after the seeding and you said the back looks great but wasn't too sure about the front. We had originally seeded while we were out there as additional customer service, however, you had a fence installed and that impacted the grass in the front yard. We went back out again and seeded the front and have left a message and emailed you to try to touch base one last time but have been unable to. If you are satisfied with the resolution, we would appreciate your consideration in revising this review as these ratings are important to us. We strive to make sure all of our customers are satisfied with the we do for them. Thank you."

We hired Benson to repair our lawn after finding out that we had chinch bugs. While Benson does not handle treatment for insect damage, they referred us to Highpoint Lawn Service. So we contacted Highpoint to spray the lawn to get rid of the I sectsand then Benson to repair the damage in late summer-Fall 2017. When the grass started coming up in early spring 2018, it was about 10% grass and 90% weeds!! Every kind of wee imaginable! I contacted Scott, the owner in early Spring who said he has on his list to come back out and add more topsoil and seed. I said I wanted him to put down a better quality of seed because all I had coming up was weeds. After my husband and I made repeated calls, because they never came out, which they ignored, they finally called and said they were going to come out in late June while we were going through a heat wave. When they came out they were going to put down the same seed. We said no again - that they needed to put something higher quality down which they refused. Meanwhile, Highpoint was treating the lawn according to their recommended treatment schedule. They came out 3 times and after their third visit, the following week we noticed the chinch bugs were back! We contacted Highpoint who refused to take responsibility and said to my husband that they only treated for the chinch bugs once which was the previous fall! My husband said to them, you were just out and you didn’t notice the insects were back? The person started to tell my husband he had a degree in this kind of thing and you usually only treat once. Meanwhile we sank about $1,400 on lawn treatment and repair between these two companies that refer and work together and nobody wants to own it. I have since spoken to 2 other people in my neighborhood who have used these companies and said they stopped after being billed for services not performed. My recommendation to anyone considering using either Benson Enterprises or Highpoint Lawn Service, is DON’T! My lawn looks far worse now than before and I have had to pay someone else to do the work I paid both of them to do a year ago.
Response from Benson Enterprises

"Please note that Highpoint is a source of referral work from our firm, but in no way are our firms connected, nor are we responsible for their performance. We have done our best to address the situation and have worked with the BBB who has determined that we have addressed the issues within the complaint and have closed the case in their files."

The crew (2) arrived in the morning and worked throughout the day. They used a Bobcat machine to remove the large overgrowth, rusty chain link fence and numerous fence posts. Two large dump truck loads were hauled away. Yards of topsoil was spread and the entire yard re-seeded. The transformation was amazing!

The work was to replace an old one that was inadequate and heaved and fell after 8 years of installation. Had drainage issues and needed multiple drains to move the water away. It was a difficult job. I had at least 15 people give me at least 15 ways to fix this issue. The more they talked, I discovered they don't know what they're talking about! I got a card in the mail from Benson Enterprises; answered it. They're professional and knew exactly what to do to solve the problems. It wasn't cheap but reasonable for the work they did.

I called around July 10 to ask for an estimate for repairing my front stoop. They said they would be able to come see it sometime a few weeks later. Since there is no rush for this repair (just want it done before it snows), that was fine. On July 25 at about 8:15am the doorbell rang. No one called the day before or even that morning to say they were coming. The estimate is to completely tear out the stoop and replace it. That's definitely not what I want. It just needs one corner repaired. The price is also unclear. I'm not sure if the amount listed is the full price for the job or just the required downpayment.

Re: Benson Enterprises response:

They write, "We would have set up an appointment to meet with you to review your project, however, you declined [emphasis added] and we said we would stop by when in the area to provide you with your estimate."

This is TOTALLY inaccurate. When I called I did want to set up an appointment but was told that they were busy and couldn't get to it immediately so would stop by when they had a chance. I accepted that although it wasn't what I really wanted. I was NEVER given the option to set up an appointment. I did, however, presume that they would at least do me the courtesy of contacting me before they arrived at my door -- especially early in the morning. Frankly, showing up first thing in the morning suggests they knew the evening before that they were going to be dropping by and could have called. They also could have called when they set out in the morning. They did neither.

Furthermore, showing up unannounced means there is no guarantee that the client will even be home so how can they discuss the project and find out just what the client wants? This doesn't strike me as being very professional nor even a good use of their time. Would they have been willing to come back to discuss it with me? Does it make sense to make two trips just to give an estimate? None of this makes any sense to me at all.

Response from Benson Enterprises

"We have left messages and tried to contact you several times to discuss this and have been unable to reach you. We would have set up an appointment to meet with you to review your project, however, you declined and we said we would stop by when in the area to provide you with your estimate. When we arrived on your property, we went to your door to let you know we were there to take a look at it. It is our professional opinion that the only safe way to repair the front stoop is to remove it, stabilize it with gravel and re-construct the bricks. We would have been happy to walk you through our estimate and answered any questions that you had, if only you would have contacted us."
