"We are glad to know that you are happy with our services. Please let your friends and neighbors know as we would like to provide the same service for them. We look forward to hearing from you again."
I've since had another company come and resolve the situation without installing any bleeder valve. The problem was the pipes were frozen and all a bleeder valve installation would have accomplished is bleeding more money from my pocket. I think Air Design's technicians are incompetent and/or lazy in the fact that they not only were not able to properly diagnose and repair the problem after 2 visits, but they also wanted to charge me more money for a part that clearly wasn't needed. The other company came and diagnosed and repaired the problem in one visit. When I am ready to install a new system, I will not be calling Air Design to do the work.
"On February 16, 2015 we (Air Design Inc.) responded to a service call for no heat in 1 zone at complaints home. Upon arrival our technician found a leak from the elbow and the valve was shut off. We repaired the leak and turned the valve on. Advised homeowner that the pipes would take some time to heat up, H/O stated will watch them and call if any issues. H/O called back on emergency line and advised the pipes were still cold. Told H/O that not nothing can be done and there would be a charge for emergency service and advised I could have tech back in the morning to at no additional charge. H/O agreed. We returned the following day to find the pipes still very cold. Began to bleed system and pipes began to warm up. Advised H/O that this process could take a while. Mr. said he would continue the process as to not keep us there and would call us if nay future issues. Our technician advised H/O that if this problem continues there is a chance that a bleeder valve would need to be installed. H/O was aware and was not charged any further money. Office then called H/O to advise price of bleeder valve if needed and was quoted a price of $370 installed. H/O was upset and advised they would call back. We have yet to hear from this customer other than this complaint. Air Design takes pride in its work and is willing to install said bleeder valve at a discount rate of $320. H/O must understand that the unit is very old and could have further complications beyond our control."
The project went very well. Air design came on time, as scheduled and brought a large team to complete the job quickly. We've had the system for 2 months and it is working very well.
We have a 70-year old townhouse that had a central air conditioning system installed many years ago. The condenser and air handler were on the roof and directly circulated air in the house via ducts in the ceiling. The old system was noisy and inefficient when it operated and then died and began to leak. Our roofer removed the units and we made do with window A/C units as we tried to figure out what to do.
Our old unit was not built to code which requires A/C units to be mounted on steel I-beams that straddle walls, instead of directly on the roof. We also weren?t sure if our duct system could handle new systems and we wanted something more energy efficient. Since central A/C units in townhouses are rare, few of our neighbors could offer useful advice. Standard vendors such as Sears do not do roof-top. Putting the condenser in the yard would require ducts in the floor and an air handler in a closet. We wanted Carrier, a reputable brand and contacted its authorized installers. Air Design stood out with their service.
Every company would send a rep to assess our project, answer questions and prepare a quote. James from Air Design was the most patient and helpful. He listened to our needs and desires carefully and gave us his best judgment. We wanted to choose from a selection of Carrier models based on features, efficiency and price. James recommended several roof-top package unit models prices that were competitive with split-systems. The packaged units combine the condenser and air handler in one box. We also considered duct-less split systems, which have condensers mounted on the walls outside the house and air handlers in each room. They are quite popular among our neighbors, but we wanted the comfort of central A/C (the ductless systems can cool individual rooms but generally not the hallways) and we didn?t want to punch holes in the walls, which are necessary for ductless systems. We researched the options that James gave and chose the Carrier 50VG-A36-30TP because it has variable-speed condenser, efficiency rating of 16.0 SEER and relatively quiet operation (72 dB noise level).
Then we had a lot questions about how to make our existing ducts work better. We emailed him various ideas we had about adding switches and dampers to the ductwork to divert the cold air upstairs and downstairs. James dissuaded us from these ideas even though we were willing to pay for them. He drew diagrams and explained that the dampers would not be effective in our ducts. He assured us that the packaged unit was sufficiently powerful to cool the whole house and is more energy efficient than what we had before. We were also concerned about noise because our neighbor is a pianist who is quite sensitive to vibrations. James said rubber pads under the unit should absorb most of the vibration but also offered springs to be installed underneath the box. We chose the springs.
After we resolved these issues, which took dozens of emails, James brought his brother Frank over to prepare for the installation. The roof of our townhouse has limited space so Frank carefully measured how to position the unit and steel beam, which had be lifted to the roof by truck-mounted crane. Frank was well-versed with our project because James had consulted with him about our questions.
On the day of the installation, Frank led the crew, who worked very quickly and diligently. The rigger truck came by in the morning and lifted the cargo on to the roof in a matter of minutes. Frank was hobbled by a broken ankle but still worked alongside his men, George, Tyrone and Michael. George is amazingly skilled. The Carrier unit itself does not have mounting holes for the spring shock absorbers, so he added a pair of steel bars underneath the box and attached the springs to the bars. The guys cleaned our old ducts, cut grooves in the walls for the beams, installed the beams, mounted the A/C unit and began to apply the masonry to seal the beams. Then my dad remembered that he had some left over metal flashing that he wanted to insert under the beams to reinforce the roof. Frank agreed to lift up the rails, which at that point were very heavy with the A/C unit on top, and had the flashing inserted underneath. May the lord bless Frank?s ankle. He was in some pain but wanted my dad to be assured. The crew then built the exterior duct that connects the A/C with an opening on our rooftop and connected the electricals.
After some testing, the crew cleaned up and Frank taught us how to use the new Carrier thermostat. He kept stressing that the new system is more efficient because it removes more moisture and makes the house more comfortable without having to lower the temperature as much as before. Indeed it?s true. Before, we had to keep the thermostat in the mid-70s but now the upper 70s is quite comfortable.
It?s really nice to be able to go from room to room in the summer time without feeling a temperature difference. The unit works like a charm. The noise is faint in the upstairs bedrooms and indiscernible on the first floor. There is no vibration whatsoever. With the window A/C units gone, our rooms are brighter and quieter. We are very happy with this project and really thankful that we had Air Design. And James and Frank have been very responsive to our questions and needs post-installation. Thank you Air Design! We recommend them to our friends. They are knowledgeable, helpful, and install first-rate Carrier products.
I made the decision and signed the contract. On the day of the install, his people arrived on time, worked efficiently and had everything completed in 6 hours including clean up and haul away of old boiler.
He even guided me on how to apply for my 10 year warranty AND energy rebates I was entitled to.
All in all, great service.
