Deck Maintenance
I had him come over and replace my roof in May, with no problems, no paperwork, no extra charges. I knew that he was looking for work, and I had just put in a new pool liner, and the deck was in bad need of repair. So I called him for the work. He gave me an estimate of $2500 for labor only, because I could get the materials cheaper. It was supposed to include fixing the railing, the deck, the lattice, and staining the deck. Then he suggested I hire his girlfriend to paint the deck. I told him I couldn't afford to pay another person too. On the third day here, when I came back home, his girlfriend was here helping him out. There was no staining that could be done at this time so I thought she was just here to help him get the work done faster. I did not hire her. There was never any paperwork done, everything was agreed upon before he started work.
The day he got done, I received a bill by e-mail for $1500.00 over the agreed amount. He was charging me for extra time and for his girlfriend that I didn't hire.
I told him I wasn't going to pay this extra money, he threatened to take me to small claims court. There was no paperwork for any of this work.
He does great work, and cleans up after himself. It's the bill that came after the agreement that I'm having an issue with.
