Conklin

We hired Herman Conklin, Cathy Conklin and his daughter Cassie Conklin to remove our existing deck and build a patio with pavers. Also they were to do landscaping and build a gazebo with removable walls. They began in April and worked thru to May 2012. One day Herman said his truck ran down a hill and smashed the walls of our little gazebo smashing all the windows and glass doors. He asked that I give him $2500 to cover the cost of purchasing new windows & a door which would be done very quickly. If not, he would have to wait for insurance to send him a check which would take weeks. He seemed very reliable since he was here everyday for the past 4 weeks and things were looking good. BIG MISTAKE!!! He then would not return my phone calls, emails. I did hear back twice from him with his bad luck stories and always assured me that he would be back soon. Supposedly his drunken, drug addicted son ruined someone's property and he had to go rebuild and fix everything in order to get them not to press charges. That was a 3 month situation. Then he was in the hospital and could not work but his friend was to help him out and would get back to me in a week. Now months later and our unfinished patio is an eye sore. No word from Herman Conklin, his wife Cathy Conklin (or maybe Kathy Conklin), his daughter Cassandra Conklin (cassie Conklin). It is now a year from the time he has started and still nothing.
First, he stole $2,500 from me with a lie and then ran off.
His wife, Cathy Conkllin, was doing all of the landscaping of the entire back yard around the patio.
His daughter, Cassie Conklin did all of the painting and assisting her parents.
They left the entire area a complete mess. 
The entire job was to cost $21,800 of which I paid 3 payouts of $17,000.00 as well as gave him an advance of $2,500 to purchase new windows and doors.  I have never been so duped by anyone before.  He seemed like such a average, friendly, guy who spoke about religion and family constantly.  Many times, I would make them lunch.  They once brought their grand daughter over.  I gave them a piece of brand new furniture for the girls room since she was moving in with them.  Also a 5 foot high doll house with all furniture, polly pockets which my daughter collected for many years but no longer played with as well as many many other toys for her to try to help them out. 
They even said they would fix one of the chairs from a double rocker that got smashed when an icicle from my house fell on it.  They took the chair to fix it at home and most likely will never see it again.  This was the first thing my husband and I bought together when we were married 20 years ago.
To sum it all up, they decided not to come back and to take my money and run.
